Starmer’s Labour conducts a(nother!) purge of Black and Asian councillors

Mass deselection in a London borough – yet again

Brent councillors hold up their anti-racism charter in 2022.

Keir Starmer’s ‘Labour’ party has carried out a mass purge of Black and Asian councillors in the London borough of Brent, in what appears to be an attempt to remove Brent Council’s leader for setting up a ‘twinning’ arrangement with a Palestinian town.

This is far from the first such mass sacking of ethnic minority councillors by the Starmer/Labour right machine.

As Wembley Matters reports:

Labour’s Ruling Body (National Executive Committee) have imposed all Labour council candidates in Brent without any say from thousands of local party members or long serving MPs. This includes barring eight sitting BAME Councillors, including Labour’s Chief Whip Cllr Iman Ahmadi Moghaddam and Cabinet Member Cllr Harbi Farah from standing in the May 2026 council election.

All deselected councillors signed a statement calling for a ceasefire in Gaza in October 2023, infuriating Starmer loyalists. This is thought to be the primary motive for their deselection. White councillors who also signed the same statement survived the purge, in a move that will undoubtedly raise some difficult questions for Labour on the doorstep amongst Brent’s diverse communities. The panel that decided Labour’s candidate list was chaired by Starmerite and corporate lobbyist Abdi Duale [and close ally of Israel fanatic Luke Akehurst – SB], who also carried out most of the interviews that led to the Councillors being deselected.

London Labour Party Executive member and Kingsbury Councillor Shama Tatler did not stand [she said so in Twitter statement]. She was a vocal supporter of the move to take decision making out of the hands of Labour members, and is rumoured to have been actively involved in deciding the final list of candidates. Cllr Tatler was also involved in the running of a similar process in Leicester in 2023, which deselected 19 Muslim and Hindu Councillors. New Starmerite MP, Georgia Gould, imposed by the national party in 2024, is rumoured to have taken time out of her busy government ministerial role to personally intervene to encourage the purge and replace sitting Councillors with her Starmerite allies. This comes four days after Labour’s catastrophic defeat in the West Hampstead ward by-election in neighbouring Camden Council.

The move is said to be a prelude to removing Brent council leader Muhammed Butt, who apparently outraged Starmer and his cronies/handlers by allowing the council to set up a ‘twinning’ arrangement’ with Nablus, a town in the occupied West Bank.

Since Keir Starmer began hollowing out the Labour party into a Thatcherite shell, it has repeatedly carried out wholesale deselections of Black and Muslim councillors. As well as the Leicester purge mentioned above, Starmer’s faction removed Muslim councillors and candidates en masse in Waltham Forest in 2021.

In 2018, amid a bullying and rigging scandal surrounding then-Enfield council leader Nesil Caliskan – now a Starmeroid MP – Starmer’s factional allies deselected every Black councillor in one stroke – then went on to try to remove Black MP Kate Osamor.

And in 2022, the Starmeroids mounted a ‘racist coup’ to remove Haringey’s popular Black council leader Joe Ejiofor – not just as council leader but as a Labour council candidate.

Labour’s deeply-entrenched racism has not only been seen in selections. Scandals involving racist campaigns and slurs against Muslims, Gypsies, Black people and Chinese people have erupted frequently, and with impunity, during Starmer’s reign – for which Starmer set the tone by creating a ‘diversity panel’ that consisted only of white members and excluded the party’s most senior ethnic minority official.

  1. No sympathy. Not as if the previous and ongoing methods of smarmerite labour wasn’t warning enough.

Anyone – black, brown, yellow, or whatever- hanging on in that party can have NO complaint when they’re punted for THE most innocuous of transgressions.

It’s keefs party (by proxy). Nobody else’s.

  2. “Events, dear boy, events…”.

May 24th’s Brent-Nebulus twinning is still in place. Brent affirms its solidarity, shared values and unity with occupied Palestine. Starmer’s threat to censure Muhammad Butt for bringing this about are escalated by his loyal NEC
imposing its “absolute power to cancel or amend procedures for selections”, thereby deepening division within Labour and creating yet more party anger with Starmer’s authoritarianism.

The West Hampstead ward by-election was held on 28 August and saw Labour (in name only) suffering a 19% swing from Labour to the Liberal Democrats/.
YourParty and the newly invigorated Polanski-led Greens are going to be the main beneficiaries of these “Events, dear boy, events…”.
