Breaking: Johnson WILL now front press briefing as desperation to protect Cummings rockets after police visit

PM emerges from hours-long meeting with Cummings to announce he will make unscheduled appearance at daily press briefing

Boris Johnson spent more than five hours ensconced with Dominic Cummings at Number 10 today – and then announced that he will front today’s daily coronavirus ‘presser’, after initially planning yet another day off.

Pressure on Johnson to sack Cummings has skyrocketed today after police arrived at Cummings’s front door, following claims that Cummings made at least one more visit to Durham – after he had recovered from the virus.

It’s not hard to imagine Cummings telling Johnson to get out there and save his skin rather than hiding from the public eye as usual.

Johnson is expected to continue to defend his aide’s actions that many consider indefensible – but even Tory MPs have publicly called for Cummings’ removal, including Brexiteer Steve Baker.

  1. Who will he allow questions from ? Cue laurak
Getting more trumpian with every day

  2. 17:11 – I’m betting Johnson will refuse questions on Cumminge and insist they only be on the “more important” issue of opening the schools – any takers?

  3. BBC just showed a tweet from a Civil Service Twitter account, but said the post had been taken down. I couldn’t tell if it was a genuine, official account but the BBC didn’t question it.

    “Arrogant and offensive.
Can you imagine having to work with these truth twisters?”

  4. Breaking – Tory inadvertently lets truth slip out.

Sir Roger Gale, Tory MP for Thanet or somewhere, asked by the BBC if an inquiry into the Cumming affair was appropriate, said (approximately) that inquiries were just a way of kicking awkward shit into the long grass.

    1. Very much like the independent investigation commissioned by Starmer.

      1. Which is not even independent…
But do not get me started there…..
