Breaking: Corbyn readmitted to party, despite right-dominated NEC panel

Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has been restored to the party ‘whip’ after his suspension was unanimously overturned in the last few minutes by a right-dominated panel of National Executive Committee members. Corbyn issued a statement on Facebook this morning, about his comments following the publication of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) report, that appears to have been agreed with the party. It expresses ‘regret’ for pain caused to Jewish people by the issue of antisemitism but does not withdraw his comment or apologise:

Last month, I was suspended from the Labour Party, after 54 years’ membership and four and a half years as party leader.

On the day I was suspended I gave a broadcast interview to clarify what I had said in response to the EHRC report, and I also made a statement to the party to clear up any confusion about what I had meant, as follows:

“The publication of the EHRC report should have been a moment for the Labour Party to come together in a determination to address the shortcomings of the past and work as one to root out antisemitism in our own ranks and wider society. We must never tolerate antisemitism or belittle concerns about it. And that was not my intention in anything I said this week. I regret the pain this issue has caused the Jewish community and would wish to do nothing that would exacerbate or prolong it. To be clear, concerns about antisemitism are neither “exaggerated” nor “overstated”. The point I wished to make was that the vast majority of Labour Party members were and remain committed anti-racists deeply opposed to antisemitism. I fully support Keir Starmer’s decision to accept all the EHRC recommendations in full and, in accordance with my own lifelong convictions, will do what I can to help the Party move on, united against antisemitism which has been responsible for so many of history’s greatest crimes against humanity.”

I’m grateful to the many thousands of Labour party members, trade unionists, and supporters in Britain and around the world, who have offered their solidarity.

I hope this matter is resolved as quickly as possible, so that the party can work together to root out antisemitism and unite to oppose and defeat this deeply damaging Conservative government.

The carefully-worded statement allows Corbyn’s successor Keir Starmer to save face while rowing back on his and general secretary David Evans’s decision to suspend Corbyn for making comments that the EHRC report said he had a legally-protected right to make.

However, the Board of Deputies has attacked the statement and demanded that Keir Starmer block any readmission – but the EHRC report, which Labour’s opponents welcomed, forbids any political interference in disciplinary processes or outcomes, regardless of the source.

Labour must now immediately reinstate all members suspended for expressing solidarity with Corbyn or condemning his suspension.

    1. Expect more, expect more, including even a CW debacle of suspend, un suspend, re suspend, expelled.

We have been all “knifed in the front”…
      slowly and with a twist
      🥀🥀🥀

      1. Speaking of knife in the front Jess Phillips. She called Israel an apartheid state in a tweet in 2018. Why is she not suspended?

      2. precisely lundiel. That’s more evidence that the vexatious allegations have not a jot to do with care for Jewish people or knife in the front Jess Phillips would have been expelled ages ago. Though on that occasion even she could not avoid stating the obvious.

I posted months ago Reuters did a moving photo documentary of the sufferings of the Palestinians under apartheid. It is OBVIOUS. Sadly the tangible dreadful sufferings have been lost in a turgid ding dong about words and definitions. You can read even on Skwawkbox such ding dongs without a single tangible description of vineyards pulled up, homes bulldozed and stolen. Whole families made homeless.

That neglect is one of the reasons the people still suffer. Their plight has been reduced to an extraordinary fixation on words by obviously decent people. Very puzzling. Fascinating.

Ps EXCELLENT fellow doing battle with Ash and James Whale. James and Ash are being absolutely disgracefully. BUT the fellow speaking for the last 10 minutes up to 19:30 Talkradio, is doing EXACTLY what is necessary. OH HOW I WISH we had a million more of him. I missed his name at the start. He is Dr Justin Scholsberg a Jewish journalist. A TRILLION blessings on him. TREMENDOUS 🎉🎉🎉

Ash – Asher Gould on the other hand, whom i like hearing, is this evening absolutely disgraceful. SHAME on you Ash.
James is as he always is but i hope people can listen again to hear Justin demonstrated assertiveness, preparation, pretty robust except in the 1st 58 seconds, not a mention of the tiresome Z word. BRILLIANT JUSTIN🌹🌹🌹

      3. He had Starmer on the ropes and because of the tremendous support from the members and the £thousands in his fighting fund he would have been reinstated anyway without grovelling. Which I’m sorry to say, now seems to have become his answer to attacks on him.

By giving in to Starmer, yet again he has let down those who went out on a limb for him. The BBC are portraying it as Starmer giving in to the ‘hard left’.

      4. Signpost, ZIONISM, the hate whose name some dare not speak.

      5. I don’t say it Jack because it dilutes the issue. In fact it blots out the suffering of real people now.

It reminds me some years back when another dreadful issue was in the news. A friend then used another word – it’s the “illuminati”. That approach is dead end thought. It becomes a shortening short hand then stops. The energy gets trapped swirling in a dead end. Lots of energy, but diverted away from the basics. Hence the tremendous chance of Jeremy being elected resulted in no focus on solidifying the management of the party. It was left to drift. There was no “normalisation” of our vision. No suspension of Hodge, Berger, Ummuna, EHRC Phillips #1 and front knifer #2 Jess Phillips, war criminal Bliar, etc etc.

The energy, the attention the focus is adrift in pockets. The intention is worthy and right. The psychological and practical settings are ineffective. This is off the too of my head so it may not be clear. But it is my bad, my difficulty in explaining that which i’ve never heard expressed, let alone explained. So please excuse any typos. Feeling very tired.

But Jack, it is just my hypothesis that certain words work as full stops in the minds of the many. They tend to have no effective resonance in the general public. They resonate only amongst those hoping that a word will either hurt some or rouse others into action, or both. The facts of history suggests neither. They only rouse debates re meanings and history as you may have witnessed here. Perhaps put yourself in the place of a parent holding their child freshly murdered child by the Israeli police with a hail of bullets from a powerful UK made machine gun. If you were that parent how would you feel hearing the response of people who do care, arguing about a word – ZIONISM – the history and academic entrails?

It is a full stop … divorced from the issue in a tangible way. It is a niche word. It does not appear that way to those convinced of its power. It has no power to change things for the better. If it did, the Palestinians would not be still suffering… their homes crushed their children murdered… by the thousands to date🌹🌹🌹

      6. My apologies for pushing in, but this needs to be said:

In another thread – ie the article before the one before this one – a poster with the user-name ‘different frank’ posted a link at 10.08am to Jeremy’s facebook statement, to which signpost posted the following Reply (at 10.47am):

‘lundiel, the Facebook and social media worship is yet another illusion. Anyway, having just read the extract provided by different frank, it may as well stay there. After 54 years plus four and a half years of leader and months since then, nothing has been learnt. The attitude, the culture is baked in’

Signpost is of course alluding to Jeremy Corbyn. A while later (at 11.31am), ‘different frank’ posted a short comment in which he finished by saying the following:

‘Can Corbyn ever come out and fight his corner?’

And about an hour later, signpost posted a Reply (to what ‘different frank’ said) which he began by saying the following:

diffrent frank, he can but he won’t. U can’t blame him. It is a COLLECTIVE FAILURE. He surrounded himself White Flaggers. White Flaggers surround him. Platitudes of “comrade” and “solidarity” were tossed about thus knocking down all fresh insight and change.

The void left by defeats which affect the electorate in a multitude of meaningful ways, do not impinge on the White Flaggers. Plus all passion is burnt up screaming at all who suggest an alternative and dripping defeat more than any MSM or sinister outfits bother to spend time doing. They know that White Flaggers mastermind pumping out the ambition draining “There was no alternative”. “CAN’T DO” bugs infect and paralyse progress of TRUE Labour.

Some six hours later skwawkbox posts this article saying that Jeremy has just been reinstated, and signpost has suddenly dropped all the denigration of Jeremy. Well, I mean, it wouldn’t be appropriate, would it – ie appropriate to start trashing Jeremy again in a thread about him having just been reinstated!

And signpost wasn’t the only one fraudulently trashing Jeremy in the other thread earlier on today. The following is a link to the post where it all kicked off (after ‘different frank’ posted a link to Jeremy’s facebook statement):

        https://skwawkbox.org/2020/11/17/right-winger-akehurst-facing-islamophobia-complaint-of-anti-palestinian-racism-days-after-nec-election-and-labours-acceptance-of-all-lmn-labour-islamophobia-report/#comment-165046

      7. Signpost, my use of the word ZIONISM is not to focus on the word but to focus on those who call theselves Zionists. For far too long it has been taboo to even discuss it lest people get to know the true meaning of it. In other words education is required and how can education be tackled if we don’t call a spade a spade?

It never ceases to amaze me just how many people do not know the origins of Zionism and its aims. Do you think RLB would have declared herself to be a Zionist if she had known the true meaning? Starmer does know, which is why he said he is not a Zionist but supports it without qualification, in other words he is a weasel.

The child of the person to whom you refer was not killed by the gun, he was killed by the Zionist using it.

As you’ve seen, I often get criticised for using the term and it’s often by Zionists who are desperate to imply that there is something redeemable or misunderstood about Zionism and therefore they do not want the word to be used in it’s true sense. This is why they try and conflate it with Judaism, so they can refer to critics of Zionism as antiSemites. It’s a dirty and ruthless game Zionists play to protect the racist State of Israel and it behoves Socialists to expose their motives.

If anyone tells you or anyone else not to use the description Zionism, ask them if they know the meaning of it. and do they know it has nothing to do with Judaism and that there are large numbers of Jews who oppose it.

Zionism is racism and it’s that which killed the Palestinian child.

      8. Thank u 4 your reply Jack. How refreshing that u don’t fly off in a rage nor take offence like u know who.

“ask them if they know the meaning of it.”

No one has ever asked me. But central to my hypothesis and observation, the above extract is only one of several that supports my point. That is an immediate URGENT issue immediately gets lost in an argument about “words and meanings”.

“Arguments about words and meanings” in an instant switching off the light on an urgent issue.

Re the gun. My bad again. I did not practise as i preach, ie i lost focus. The point is this. Weather by gun, sword, pitchfork or cyanide used by a no practising Jew, a devout Hindu but for a secret gorging on beef, a cloistered knitting nun, a head banging Buddhist or a Taoist guru of tantric contortions or Nellie Melba… the child has been murdered by a person. Whats in a name?

It was my view when race hate crime was added to the statute books, Surely if u r bashed over the head, u have been bashed over the head. If i’m not mistaken, bastards have escaped conviction, because of that unnecessary complication. It is an hindrance , not a help. It is a distraction from real … VISCERAL distress, grief, loss, abuse, humiliation, gross injustice, heartlessness, doing unto others that which one would not like done to one, racism, inhumanity, blatant theft of land and property, evil vandalism of people’s homes…

Jack we could both add to that scandalously long list and alas scandalously neglected. Would the murder of the child be any more bearable if the murderer was a Trappist monk or the Khmer Rouge?

Methinks, if your answer is yes, then the Palestinians need a miracle. Overnight, let ALL THE oil vanish TOTALLY from their neighbours. Somehow let the strategic location vanish. Then lets see what happens🌹🌹🌹

      9. Signpost, I understand precisely what you say because I had the same view some years ago. It was when I realised that Zionism is unique among racist dogmas and how much pain and suffereing its practitioners have brought to the world that I decided not to shy away from spotlighting it.

When Zionists from Europe decided they wanted to colonise a part of the holy land, their intention was not just to go and live among the indigenous population, the plan was to displace them completely and dispossess them of their land and homes i.e. remove them by force. Quite naturally, the Palestinians objected and we see the results of the conflict continuing today. The consequences of Zionism are not confined to the Palestinians, they affect every one of us. Zionism brought about our illegal attack on Iraq and it has deprived us of the best chance in years of having a Socialist government.

For fear of upsetting Zionists never be afraid shine the spotlight on them. For years they have got away with playing the underdog, to the extent that they now control the UK Labour Party!

    2. I was wondering the same. Like damage limitation….. And most likely their flogging of colouring(in cards and crayons at £14 “donation” must have been such a roaring success (NOT, hihi) that they felt compelled to lumber us with another missile about it.
Let’s now get everyone else reinstated.. And the undemocratic edicts withdrawn. Otherwise we will have to do some colouring in, creating posters with a cheeky warning about leaving your human rights and party democracy behind if joining certain meetings.

      1. Didn’t we get similar ‘limited offers’ during Jeremy’s tenure.

      2. Sabine blimey its gone up from 8to fourteen pounds already.Just how desperate are HQ…very desperate to do a dirty deal with Corbyn on the backs of so many sacrificial lambs….

      1. I posted months ago Reuters’ moving photo documentary of the sufferings of the Palestinians under apartheid.

Their plight has been reduced and blotted out… disappeared by an extraordinary fixation on words by obviously decent people. Fascinating but very odd. Possibly a similar something like Ken and his H word. Quite detached from the day to day distress of real people suffering now. Their daily suffering blown away EFFECTIVELY out of general sight, general heart, general connection to abuse, humiliation, homes crushed, families made homeless, young people murdered by soldiers with British made arms, grief, greif greif… all suffocated by those obsessed with a word, the supposed effect and power rumbling only in their minds.

Ps EXCELLENT fellow just did battle with Ash and James Whale. James and Ash are being absolutely disgracefully. BUT the fellow speaking for the last 10 minutes up to 19:30 Talkradio, is doing EXACTLY what is necessary. OH HOW I WISH we had a million more of him!!!

James is as he always is. Regrettable… can’t think of another word. Hopefully many people will listen again to hear Justin demonstrate assertiveness, preparation, pretty robust rebuttals except in the 1st 58 seconds. AND, not a mention of the tiresome Z word.
        BRILLIANT JUSTIN🌹🌹🌹

    3. To secure his readmission to the Party, Corbyn earlier had , in his new ‘clarification’, actually grovellingly totally recanted the very comment that had got him suspended. ie, the totally true statement that the scale of Labour’s anti-Semitism issue had been exaggerated FOR FACTIONAL PURPOSES’. A vital issue, that no Left wing ex-Leader who has been abused and smeared for over four years by the MSM and Labour Right , should have recanted . https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/nov/17/jeremy-corbyn-labour-antisemitism-concerns-were-not-exaggerated

So.. phew… The Cobynistas and Socialist Campaign Group are off the hook now – no need to do ANYTHING to counter the still ongoing rolling Right Wing Starmerite purge against the Left. As long as Jeremy, and his, and their, continuing , well-remunerated, career as tame ‘Lefties’ on the powerless, emptily pontificating, fringe of the PLP, is once again secure – all is well on the Left of the PLP !

Any socialists looking to Corbyn or any of his circle for any stand against the now total reversal of the brief ‘Corbyn Insurgency’ policy gains of 2015 to 2019 inside the now firmly Starmerite, NuLabour Tory-Lite Party, or that any of these poseurs will ever leave Labour to be the Parliamentary wing of a new Left Party, no matter how disgusting it becomes in its collaboration with the Tories and the neoliberal status quo, is wasting his/her time. Labour is fucked electorally and politically, forever, , and the only actual response, as ever historically, of the Labour PLP Left is ‘ how far do you want us to bend over’ ?’

      1. So can we hope you’ll stop “wasting” your time trolling this site? Go and play with the big boys/girl Trots over on the WSWS, eh?

      2. It’s not at all clear to me that Corbyn has recanted or performed some kind of u turn. He offered the same clarification that he gave on the day of his suspension: namely that he had not said ‘concerns’ about AS were exaggerated, but that the extent of the problem had been. That seems a pretty reasonable distinction to me, albeit politic, its certainly not a recant.

      3. jpenny fraudulently begins his B/S post by saying the following:

‘To secure his readmission to the Party, Corbyn earlier had , in his new ‘clarification’, actually grovellingly totally recanted the very comment that had got him suspended…’

No he did not jpenny you lying little piece of shit! What Jeremy said earlier in his facebook statement was that the CONCERN about anti-semitism has not been exaggerated or overstated, which is ENTIRELY different to saying that the EXTENT of anti-semitism in the party has been massively overstated. the latter of which he could of course prove given the gynormous disparity and disconnect between the public perception of the extent of the problem – ie a third of LP members having been reported for A/S – and the actuality – ie 0.3% of the membership…. AND the former – and Jeremy has never claimed that it was anyway – something that he CAN’T prove. And it seems glaringly obvious to me that Starmer and Co contacted Jeremy and asked him to make a public staement clarifying that he DIDN’T think that the ‘concern’ about A/S in the LP had been overstated, AND, that if he did so, they would consider reinstating him, which they have now done of course.

So just fuck off you nasty lying little piece of fascist garbage! I mean you REALLY ARE a totally evil cnut!!! Along with a few OTHER paid shills who regularly post on skwawkbox, and their secondary personas who they created to post the occasional comment!

      4. Allan Howard , the sad case who apparently cannot read – but just makes up the supposed wording of the comment by Jeremy that got him suspended. In the real world the line that got Jeremy suspended was in this bit of his statement , Howard :

‘“….Anyone claiming there is no antisemitism in the Labour Party is wrong. Of course there is, as there is throughout society, and sometimes it is voiced by people who think of themselves as on the left.“

Jewish members of our party and the wider community were right to expect us to deal with it, and I regret that it took longer to deliver that change than it should. “One anti-semite is one too many, but the scale of the problem was also dramatically overstated for political reasons by our opponents inside and outside the party, as well as by much of the media”

The ‘offending line in that is : ,’….but THE SCALE OF THE PROBLE was also dramatically overstated for political reasons by our opponents …’. Totally true – but in his new ‘clarification’ , Jeremy has cravenly recanted this key point. Deny it all you want you halfwit, Howard , but what I wrote is accurate. Whereas what you claim Jeremy said is pure fantasy, as with so much of your ignorant posts .

      5. Oh you’re REALLY clutching at straws now, aren’t you jpenny! There is nothing whatsoever contradictory about the two passages you quote. And needless to say, saying that the A/S problem in the LP has been massively overstated (by political opponents et) is NOT tantamount to saying there is no problem of A/S at all, and Jeremy has said on more than a few occasions that it exists in the party, as it does throughout society. They are two factual statements, and ONE does NOT contradict the OTHER. And YOU know it!

    4. My apologies for pushing in at the top of the comments, but THIS has to be said:

In another thread – ie the article before the one before this one – a poster with the user-name ‘different frank’ posted a link at 10.08am to Jeremy’s facebook statement, to which signpost posted the following Reply (at 10.47am):

    5. Yeh Squawkbox Iain Crawford, theyve been shouting it from the rooftops, only its not a very good deal…Jeremy threw in the towel again. No place for old shell shocked men now..off to the Lords jez.!

  1. Every single member suspended, over filing a motion in Corbyn’s support must be reinstated to the Party automatically and their are not longer grounds for their suspensions.

  2. Unsurprising. It was coming close to invoking people’s sense of fair play and support for the underdog. This from people of all political parties.
Time to reform the EHRC and remove charitable status from the Board of Deputies.

    1. Agreed lundiel. the BOD is a TOTALLY unrepresentative but SUPER organised group. They are sinister, aggressive, racist, rude, liars. They do NOT represent Jewish people. They claim it as a cover for their WICKED intentions. They should have NO influence in ANY political Party.

Who in this “democratic” country EVER elected the BOD or CAA ? ? ? 👂👂👂
      … tumble weed … silence …🔴

    2. u r right again lundiel. immediately after the suspension i heard right wing presenters say it did not seem fair. Did not hear any of Jeremy’s inner circle say 1/4 as much… 1/10? no. 1/1000?? no. 1/1000000000 … no

      1. I expect the Daily Mail’s Angela Epstein will be tearing her hair out on Jeremy Vine’s Channel 5 show tomorrow at the fact Corbyn wasn’t expelled. As the show’s resident Corbyn-hater and A/S “expert” she was demanding just that the other week, complaining that the suspension didn’t go far enough.

      2. timfrom – We must all remember to be very careful how we pronounce her surname.

    1. Lundiel, your tiresome sympathy for the obsessive, poisonously unpleasant, Tony Greenstein, is totally misplaced. The man has personally poisoned the pro Palestinian and anti Israel/Zionism debate for 40+ years now – and also the views of too many gullible Left wingers who have believed his totally selective and distorted ahistorical nonsense. The very recent ruling of the Supreme Court makes it now legal to refer to Greenstein as a ‘notorious anti-Semite’.

Choose some other pro Palestinian/anti-Zionist heroes than those three toxic self-publicists. Walker, Greenstein and Livingston , if you don’t want to be led down some very dodgy ideological, fake history, routes indeed, drenched in old anti-Semitic memes and tropes.
      https://www.brightonandhovenews.org/2020/11/06/notorious-anti-semite-loses-libel-case/

      1. jpenney, it’s not ahistorical to say that since the Zionists from Europe with absolutely no connection to Palestine, decided to go and colonise the place with force, the Palestinians have been murderd by them in their thousands and have had their land and homes stolen. It’s an indisputable fact.

Zionism is a hateful, racist, settler colonial concept which no decent person should have anything to do with.

  3. You wish. The witch is dead meat now and his supporters will be hung out to dry, slowly.

The suspension had its effect, it allowed the right to do better in the NEC elections than otherwise would be the case.

They might as well erect a headstone in Highgate Cemetery or a Mausoleum in Red Square in memory of the man whose accidental rise to fame marked the 2nd high water mark in my life (after the miners’ strike in 84-85) but has now meekly kow-towed to his inferiors.

I might be wrong and I hope I am but, much as I felt after the ascension of Blair and the binning of Clause 4, my sole interest now is in supporting the Labour Party “as a rope supports a hanged man.”

    1. I agree. However, I was talking about the party and the media who, I’m sure, did not want the public to feel Corbyn was being crucified, nor make a martyr of him.

    2. movingly written labrebisgalloise, like joseph earlier. u also correctly identify that the suspension was meant to get the “Left” to do what the Right know they tend to do, ie run away.

Maybe protesting is irresistible fun, thus an end in itself a good bit of spirited fun, camaraderie… a warm cosy agreement with those who ALREADY agree. No “confrontation”. Togetherness. With those with whom we already agree.

Sod the suffering people who need a true Labour government NOW. Have nice cosy agreeable lively fun and group hugs. Compose the weakest motions and set the lowest demands do as Starmar & Evans order and vote for the saboteurs for a “Labour” label government. Fat lot of good.

  4. Is Starmer now going to play the tolerant patriarch bringing his wayward son back into the fold in return for his submission to the authority of the one true church?
Fuck Starmer and fuck the Board of Dipshits.

    1. Very good way of putting it. The evening news shows are spinning it that Jeremy has completely retracted any comments he made or criticism of the report. I’m thinking Keir knew he was on to a loser with Jeremy on this ridiculous suspension and like a competent general (which let’s not forget Labour has not had for many a year) refused battle until a time of his own choosing and considered his strategic objectives as more important.

      1. Plain Citizen – Jeremy has been sanctioned and issued with and accepted a ‘warning of conduct letter’ so he may have to watch his step for a while.

      2. Plain citizen…I do hope youve ordered the bag of crayons and colouring book for Xmas…The party demands it .Fourteen quid and a signed picture of a knight on his trusty steed….Impressive marketing skills by the unemployed of the Panorama former Labour witness team?Theyve now decided on a release of Billy Bragg “Things can only get better” as a cheerful message for all lockdown victims..for Xmass.Jeremy Corbyn will not be appearing in pantomine this year, the knights already grabbed that.ITs off to the Lords for jez next year after an appropriate amount of mourning at the Labour party grotto..setup by the esteemed Allan Howard the white flag man at Highgate cemetery(next to karl Marx or groucho? Not sure?Solidarity comrades on this significant day for the liebor party.

    1. They don’t need his help – he did nothing wrong, therefore neither did they if all they said was that that he did nothing wrong.

      1. err. Please subtract 1 ‘that’ from the foregoing proposition.

      2. They didn’t get suspended for supporting JC, they got suspended for discussing a current case but they’ll either end up getting let off or have the mildest slap on the wrist

  5. An extra special day for me. My face is transfixed with a ‘ Cheshire cat grin’ now that Jeremy is back where he belongs, I guess it will not have disappeared in the morning.
