Tory operation to save Dominic Cummings plumbs new depths
The Tory scramble to save Dominic Cummings’s skin reached a new low today when Michael Gove appeared on LBC.
Asked whether he would take a 60-mile drive ‘to test his eyesight’ – as Cummings has claimed he was doing when he went from Durham to Barnard Castle during the lock-down – Gove responded:
I have on occasions in the past.
He then seemed to realise there was no way to carry that sentence through to a conclusion without looking ridiculous – but the evidence is there on video:
Meanwhile, parliamentary leaders of six opposition parties have written to Boris Johnson to demand he sack Cummings for endangering the public. But not Keir Starmer, who seems to be ‘doing a Johnson’ and avoiding the media rather than add his voice to those trying to defend the public against the arrogance of the Tories. The ‘leader of the opposition’ needs to start opposing.
