The Tory scramble to save Dominic Cummings’s skin reached a new low today when Michael Gove appeared on LBC.
Asked whether he would take a 60-mile drive ‘to test his eyesight’ – as Cummings has claimed he was doing when he went from Durham to Barnard Castle during the lock-down – Gove responded:

Meanwhile, parliamentary leaders of six opposition parties have written to Boris Johnson to demand he sack Cummings for endangering the public. But not Keir Starmer, who seems to be ‘doing a Johnson’ and avoiding the media rather than add his voice to those trying to defend the public against the arrogance of the Tories. The ‘leader of the opposition’ needs to start opposing.

There’s nothing “sad” about citing Malcolm X. Had Cummings had an accident during his “test drive”, then, presumably, that would have confirmed to him that he wasn’t fit to drive. The problem with that is that, in the unlikely event of him being honest with the police, his insurance would not have been valid.
