Showstopper Beckett takes on ‘car-crash’ Thornberry to demand support for Corbyn on Brexit

Unite deputy general secretary describes Thornberry’s full-remain position as a ‘car crash’ and brings house down with speech backing Corbyn on Brexit

Unite’s deputy general secretary Howard Beckett has brought the house down with a speech in which he demanded Labour’s conference support Jeremy Corbyn’s position on Brexit – saying that to do otherwise would be to tie Corbyn’s hands in a nonsensical way and describing Emily Thornberry’s attempt to defend her full-remain position on a recent Question Time episode as a ‘car crash’:

Unison, USDAW, TSSA and the musicians’ union have flipped on their commitment only eleven days ago to back the remain position likely to collapse Labour’s support in its majority of leave-voting seats.

Labour insiders consider the switch a direct attack on Corbyn.

  1. Having watched this live my impression was that he had the support of one side of the conference hall, the union side.

    1. Hope the membership get fully behind Corbyn are the loss will be a direct threat to any chance of a Corbyn led democratic socialist Labour government…..Trashing the leadership will be billed by the media as a lost chance for a Labour government!
