New book from centrist journalist admits what we all knew: right-wingers funded by Israel supporters and scared of Corbyn’s popularity concocted ‘Labour antisemitism’ as sabotage
An extract from a new book by a centrist journalist, published in the Guardian, shows the Labour right finally admitting – now it has ‘won’ – what the left knew all along: the party right was deliberately and knowingly sabotaging the party’s electoral prospects when Jeremy Corbyn was its leader. Not because it thought Labour was unelectable, but because it knew he could win and feared that this would prevent it ‘renewing’ the party in Tony Blair’s old image.
And it admits that Morgan McSweeney’s efforts were funded by Israel-supporting multi-millionaires and organised by a man who ‘despised’ Corbyn’s politics – which were for free healthcare and education, social justice, an end to poverty and taking back the nation’s hard-won and hard-built treasures like the NHS, utilities, rail and mail from the privatisers stripping them bare for profit, and recognition, freedom and justice for the oppressed Palestinians.
Sitting on that park bench, McSweeney [now Keir Starmer’s closest aide] was among those who took the 2017 result very seriously and believed that Corbyn, whose politics he despised, could win the next election…
Interestingly, in a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis, McSweeney claimed that one of the key problems the group might encounter was “a Labour government” – making explicit that his concern was not whether Corbyn could win, but that if he were to become prime minister it would prevent the renewal they were focused on…
…soon [Morgan McSweeney’s group] reached out to former Labour advisers to work alongside them with a focus on online antisemitism. In an early review, they identified problem posts in hundreds of Facebook groups with links to either the party or leftwing politics… They then farmed out the posts they uncovered to journalists who were themselves reporting on rising evidence of antisemitism on the left. Together with a row over whether the party would adopt all the examples linked to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism, the scandal was becoming increasingly destabilising for Corbyn.
Reed met [Israel supporter] Chinn and [hedge fund manager] Taylor through Cruddas and… Maurice Glasman, who were already receiving financial support for their “Blue Labour” ideas. Before 2017, Chinn and Taylor decided to “take a punt” and offered £75,000 to cover the cost of some early research and the first member of staff. When McSweeney took over the director role after the election, the group bid for more backing, winning around £150,000 over three years, with perhaps half a million by the time the Labour leadership campaign of 2020 got under way, after Corbyn’s resignation post the 2019 election.
Chinn and Taylor went on to donate tens of thousands to Keir Starmer’s leadership campaign. Starmer kept these and other donors hidden until it was too late for the admission to affect the result.
The only scandals that actually existed, of course, were the fact that party right, funded by hedge-fund managers and supporters of Israel, was deliberately looking to prevent a Labour government and using a whipped-up moral panic about a non-existent ‘antisemitism crisis’ to do it – and that McSweeney’s group didn’t declare almost three quarters of a million pounds of donations to the Electoral Commission. This is dismissed by Asthana as a ‘mistake early on’.
The article also confirms the faction’s efforts to protect right-wing MPs, but this was already revealed by Skwawkbox years ago and confirmed by the Forde Report, including a vicious smear campaign against Labour members in Wallasey to protect Angela Eagle from deselection. Interestingly, it confirms that McSweeney’s ‘Labour Together’ was behind the ‘Stop Funding Fake News’ campaign that targeted the advertising revenue of the Canary and other left-wing news sites. Skwawkbox was not targeted in this campaign because it allows no advertising, though the right attempted other ways to attack its funding.
‘Stop Funding Fake News’ has previously been linked to Imran Ahmed – Eagle’s office manager at the time of the anti-member smears, who went on to be accused of taking dark money to promote censorship of dissent. Skwawkbox had already revealed the link to McSweeney’s faction twenty months ago – he was a director of the so-called ‘Centre for Countering Digital Hate’ run by Ahmed. The Labour right is an incestuous business.
Asthana, a centrist who played no better a role during the ‘Labour antisemitism’ scam than any other Guardian journalist and her book admits she was invited to and attended McSweeney’s ‘schmoozing’ of the centrist rag. The right’s arrogance is on show again in the willingness of its saboteurs to talk openly about the actions they took to sentence the UK to the murderous Boris Johnson Tory government and the predations of those that followed – and to the ensuing police-state, genocide-complicity and social murder of the Starmer regime.

Heard him about three times on LBC. He had numerous clear strong points he could have made and reiterated. Then there was a series of interviews with Peter Oborne and/or David Hearst, published in Middle East Eye, including a further video interview.

I do not deny the outings you say JC has made. I.E. article and interviews you say to those who ALREADY agree with him and us on policy etc.
I’ve heard the repeated invitations from almost all radio presenters, including George Galloway when he had his program and Iain Dale in particular.
After he relinquished his post, he eventually accepted a full hour phone in on LBC. He was EXCELLENT in substance and exuded his charisma. Iain only read one of what he said was lots of positive feedback. After the years I still remember “This is the best radio!”.
Iain asked him why he didn’t accept his invitations. JC mumbled an answer. Iain then asked how he thought the hour went. Again JC mumbled, though much more audibly, and in his very familiar vocally unfocused, off the cuff tone… detached… “it went well I think” ( or feel” ).
George, I heard and believe it that Seamus Milne discouraged JC from going on media to defend himself. Worse yet, I sense that JC FIRM preference is; talk and listen to, those with whom he already agrees, AND be amongst them. I.E. “Talk amongst ourselves”.
Since that particular hour on LBC, he NEVER accepted any of the invitations from the rival commercial station but I was astonished to hear them say “he used to be always on and great fun” before he became leader.
I had ZERO idea of his existence till he stood for leader. Then I was in, and joined the party to DEFEND him. WHY because the the Tory B Side were OPENLY saying things like they “wake up every day, thinking of new ways to undermine Jeremy”. Ashworth, I believe, DELIBERATELY leaked the tape of him insulting JC, who emerged fro his near invisibility to defend Ashworth, George. I heard it. T Watson, Coyle, Eagle and many others incl Berger, TOURED the radio studios, OPENLY slandering JC and us by association.
Berger in particular did DOUBLE HOUR slots of bile. JC could have and should have turned up and defend himself and US by ASSOCIATION.
If anyone, let alone an experienced politician believe that they should speak almost solely to those with whom they already agree, then they WILL NEVER be an agent of MEANINGFUL and TANGIBLE change.
Of course I expect he said stuff about AS but NOT to the general public. FACT: he had the invitation on LBC and the rival station. Recently he turned up for 7 minute interviews: Matt Frei, another fellow whose name slips , Ah! Andrew Marr. One of those was with McCluskey like a parent at a PTA meeting with a surly teenager. The teenager only came alive when Andrew Marr mentioned the Poetry McC & JC had just compiled. B4 that, teas the parent who responded excellently to Marr’s questions, while JC gave rare intermittent mumbles. He became present / engaged when Marr mentioned the book, then sighed in frustrated resignation when he said there was no more time… as if the teacher just said I will keep your skateboard locked in my office for another month.
CONCLUSION: whenever I say we’ve not heard a word, or won’t hear a word, I do not refer to the clique / siloed / outlets as you mention above.
I lack your long years of experience and commitment but feel sure; ZERO substantial TANGIBLE change will occur it we STILL feel that we should “just talk amongst ourselves” as JC said in a Tribune interview.

JC was only about 2,000 votes in marginals short of power but what always worried me was what if we had won, would the dreadful Right Wing Lab MPs have voted though his programme, I doubt it very much.
