More than half Dems boycott Netanyahu lie-fest – but govt replaces them with extras

Absent lawmakers replaced by stand-ins to create false impression as pro-Israel stooges fawn over Israeli PM’s litany of lies

The US Congress listens to Netanyahu drone

More than half of Democratic party politicians in the US Congress and Senate boycotted Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s litany of lies masquerading as a speech to fawning supporters. All was not as it seemed as the war criminal droned to a packed Capitol – in the absence of so many politicians the government had filled empty seats with stand-ins to create a false impression of popularity, though of course the popularity he has among those funded by Israel is nauseating enough:

Of those in the chamber, only Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib – a Palestinian-American – had the courage to call Netanyahu what he is:

The brave stand brought comparisons with a similar incident in pre-war Nazi Germany, when a sole spectator refused to join in the sheep-like Nazi salutes and stood with his arms stubbornly folded:

The dishonest presentation of Netanyahu’s popularity also recalled similar incidents in the election campaigns of Tories David Cameron and Boris Johnson, and Red Tory Keir Starmer, where images were shot and doctored to hide their distinct unpopularity.

Netanyahu is a war criminal who should be unable to enter any country without arrest and extradition to the Hague.

  1. Yes it was impressive to see the War Criminal sign. I noticed too that she was
surrounded by many sitting still without clapping and that there were many
    “Boos”.

Without seeing the whole audience it was difficult to see what proportion
were either passively or actively (via Boos) voicing their disapproval.

Hopefully Netanyahu’s time has come to an end and he is put behind
    bars – as he deserves.

    1. Labour have announced that they WILL NOT be opposing the ICC issuing an arrest warrant for Netanyahu

UK will not oppose right of ICC to issue arrest warrant for Israeli PM Netanyahu, says No 10
A Downing Street spokesperson says the matter is solely one for the court and that it believes “strongly in the rule of law and separation of powers”.

…and yet– according to the marvelous Caitlin Johnstone– “Netanyahu’s Speech Was As American As It Gets”

“Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech before Congress was everything you’d expect: packed full of lies and propaganda spin, yet simultaneously very illuminating and revealing.

“The Israeli prime minister received no fewer than 58 standing ovations while speaking before both houses of Congress and spewing the most despicable lies you could possibly imagine in his conspicuously American accent. Depending on how politically aware you are, this spectacle could be perceived as either deeply un-American, or as American as it gets.

“Netanyahu repeated evidence-free atrocity propaganda about what happened on October 7, falsely asserting that Hamas “burned babies alive” and killed two babies in an attic. He falsely claimed that Hamas “butchered 1,200 people”, pretending it’s not a well-established fact that many of the 1,139 Israeli deaths that day came from both indiscriminate IDF fire and deliberate targeting in implementation of the Hannibal Directive.”

    1. Keef? The resident gobshite?

Ohhhhhh, you mean benny?! He’ll get his, given time.

      1. Are you, perchance, referencing the character Benny from the old TV soap opera Crossroads, Toffee?

      2. Nah. That benny wears a tea cosy on his bonce….This one looks more of a saucer.

        🚖🏃💨

      3. I simply ask because, as I recall the reports at the time, the British military personnel stationed on the Falkland Islands in the aftermath of the 1982 Falklands expedition very quickly adopted the habit of referring to the Falkland Islanders as “Benny’s” after this particular character.

Upon learning of the use of this derogatory descriptive term among the lower ranks, the chain of command apparently issued orders to cease using it to refer to the Falkland Islanders.

Naturally, the rank and file complied and adopted the alternative term “Stills” – as in “Still Benny’s”.

Reports in recent times indicate that various groups and organisations, such as social media platforms to cite but one example, are placing an effective cordon sanitaire around a particular word describing a well known political movement associated with an exclusively ethnic based State in the Middle East on the grounds that critics using it are ipso facto practising the highest form of racism in the artificially manufactured hierarchy of oppression.

In which case, the term “Stills” in this context provides a useful alternative to the “Z” word.

  3. The late Uri Avnery describes the last time Netanyahu spoke to Congress, the same happened this time and all the political whores rose and applauded this mass murdering scumbag.
“There they were, the members of the highest legislative bodies of the world’s only superpower, flying up and down like so many yo-yos, applauding wildly, every few minutes or seconds, the most outrageous lies and distortions of Binyamin Netanyahu. It was worse than Stalin’s Supreme Soviet, when showing less than sufficient respect could have meant death.
What the American Senators and Congressmen feared was a fate worse than death. Anyone remaining seated or not applauding wildly enough could have been caught on camera – and that amounts to political suicide. It was enough for one single congressman to rise and applaud, and all the others had to follow suit. Who would dare not to?

The sight of these hundreds of parliamentarians jumping up and clapping their hands, again and again and again and again, with the Leader graciously acknowledging with a movement of his hand, was reminiscent of other regimes. Only this time it was not the local dictator who compelled this adulation, but a foreign one”. http://zope.gush-shalom.org/home/en/channels/avnery/1306359471

    1. Meanwhile, this just dropped in my inbox:

      https://steelcityscribblings.uk/wp/2024/07/26/the-wrong-trousers/

“Heart-warming to see such foul racism garnering the righteous anger it merits. The Sainsbury’s Board should resign en masse and be made to stand in head-bowed silence outside the House of Commons, every day for an hour at noon till Xmas Eve, in short pants and “I am a racist” t-shirts.

      That’ll learn ’em!

Heart-warming too that in just 200 years we’ve progressed, as Caitlin Johnstone with trademark pithiness so memorably observed:

… ‘from expecting our leaders to slaughter brown-skinned people while saying racist things, to expecting our leaders to slaughter brown-skinned people while condemning racism.’

As the genocide in Gaza continues unabated, and the children of global south nations targeted by Western “sanctions” continue to die from malnourishment and wholly preventable diseases, it’s good to be reminded of what truly matters.”

  4. Craig Murray posted an article yesterday entitled ‘The Presence of Evil’ which begins thus:

I have frequently explained that when I sat in the International Court of Justice and heard Israel’s lawyers tell lie after lie to justify or excuse the Gaza genocide, I could feel I was palpably in the presence of evil.

At least in the Hague you could also feel and indeed observe that most people in the courtroom – including the majority of the judges – were repulsed by the evil.

Yesterday that same evil, and the same lies, was manifested in the US Congress by Netanyahu, to an audience which glorified, reflected and amplified that evil…..
