This viral Australian TV interview on Israel-Palestine would never be allowed on UK TV

Ant Loewenstein’s frank analysis of reasons for Palestinian resistance would be shut down in moments by UK interviewers

Jewish Australian journalist Antony Loewenstein has tweeted footage of interview with ABC News about the asymmetrical Israel-Palestine war and the decades-long Israeli oppression and apartheid that have driven it. It is remarkable because such a lengthy and frank explanation would never be allowed on UK TV without endless interruptions and diversions from the interviewer:

Loewenstein commented on the reaction to his interview, which went viral – no doubt because of the rarity of an expert commentator being allowed to put the Palestinian case for seven minutes on a ‘western’ news station, as well as the deft way in which Loewenstein dismantled his interviewers attempts to avoid the terrorism of Israel’s treatment of Palestinians:

    1. Tony, thanks for that. I think that Braverman and other funnily hued liked fan boys and chest feeders should visit the Russian settler communities in , err.. Pal.. sorry Israel to find out their opinions on funnily hued supporters. Might be shocked.

  1. It is great that a Jew is publicly standing for Palestinian rights and pointing out that the present Israeli government unjust treatment of the Palestinian has lead to Hamas´s violent attack.
I regret the lost of all human life but, Israel´s government needs to take responsibility for the part it plays on provocking Hamas´s violent actions against Israeli civilians.
In the past year along Israelis living in illegal settlements in the West Bank have engaged in the daily harassment of the Palestinians: destroying their hundreds of years old olive groves and other crops and physically attacking them.
Over 200 hundred civilian Palestinians died on the West Bank this year at the hands of Israeli illegal settlers. No single Israeli colonist have been charged with any crimes against the Palestinians. In fact the Israeli Army stoped patrolling the border with Gaza because its army was sent to protect violent Israeli illegal settlers.
Hence, with the violence against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank and the refusal of Israel to stop the illegal settlers violence and in effect protecting them; it is any surprise that Hamas decided to retaliate against Israeli civilians?
I cannot justify Hamas violence involving Israeli civilians it is a war crime under international law but, I can understand it. What I can neither justify or understand is Israel response by carpet bombing Gaza and cutting their electricity, water, food and medical supplies. It is against international law and it is a war crime that by its magnitude I believe is genocidal.

    1. I don’t read that trash. Never have. Can’t understand a single ‘socialist’ who does. It seems like a piece that shows a sense of ‘balance’.

  2. How can anybody vote for Labour when starver supports israel by bombing starving and cutting of water and oil for hospitals

  3. It’s how the story is framed by the bought and paid for MSM and Toilet papers
    Repeat Ad Nauseum
If they say Hamas terrorist ask them about Jewish terrorists
If they say right to defend, then point out it applies to both sides
If they say massacre, say which one
Then ask which set of terrorists are the most lethal, the most barbaric and backed by the West, ask how many deaths are you responsible for

    1. ‘How the story is framed” is the pivotal point. ‘Evidence’ is accepted and believed without question and war propaganda runs wild. Thank heaven for sites like Middle East Eye and Off-Guardian.

    2. Doug, I cannot believe that Starmer as a Human Rights lawyer supports Israeli actions in Gaza. How on earth can he defend war crimes committed by Israel? By its actions in Gaza and the West Bank, Israel is in my opinion a terrorist state.
I cannot understand how President Biden that pride himselft of been Catholic and Irish can support the carpet bombing in Gaza, the cutting of electricity and water, food and medical supplies. These are war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza. Is Biden even aware that Ireland voted in the EU against cutting aid EU to the Palestinian and assert the right of the of the Palestinians.
“Ireland fully accepts that the Government of Israel has the right to defend its people, but this right does not negate the rights of others.”
Every Human Right organisation in Israel describe the situation in the West Bank as aparthaid as Ant Lowestein informs in his interview. How Biden that pride itself of its Irish Republican roots can ignore that the UN has declared Israel as practising apartheid in the West Bank?
Today Israeli civilians forced two government ministers to abandone the tour of hospitals visiting victims of Hamas attacks.

      1. The Torygraph doesn’t do irony. What was the matter with these atrocity victims?

  4. Doug, I cannot believe that Starmer as a Human Rights lawyer supports Israeli actions in Gaza.

I can. Look at his track record.

The complete shithouse likes to talk hardball, but when push comes to shove, he literally shits himself and relies on others to rescue him.

    *The Alehouse landlord…
(No, not that unfunny & untalented twat, al murray). Keef only opened his gob to say I do t have to listen to the likes of you” when keefs goon had him restrained & far enough away not to reach blockhead with a dig.

    *Audrey White (Star turn, Audrey👍)…

Completely paralyzed with fear by an unaccompanied, softly-spoken, senior citizen – despite being surrounded by flunkeys

    The glitter fairy…

Again – frozen rigid; too scared to even mutter ‘security’ in an auditorium choc-full of lickspittles (although weasley screeching was probably close to fainting).**

And THEN trying to pass it off by saying: If he thinks that bothers me, he doesnt know me” (bliar’s already done the “am I bovvered” shit, keef)

Most of the bastard country doesn’t know him. Most of those that DO, know he’s a scruple-less shithouse.

**I’ve seen the glitter fairy video from another angle, he seems to go to ground like an lfc forward i.e. with very little contact, and I’m now unsure it wasn’t staged.

    1. Hullo Toffee, yeah rumour has it that Screeching likes to faint. He also likes to make others faint but not too deeply.

  5. From the Torah Judaism account on Twitter X…

“Judaism is not a nationality or nation.

Judaism is the world’s oldest religion.

Zionism is a distortion of Judaism.

    Judaism is not Zionism.

Jews are a religious community, not a nationality or nation.

Zionists use Judaism for their own perverted interests.”

    And again….

“The Zionist state of Israel reminds us of Nazi Germany. Zionists oppress Jews in Mea Shearim, the anti-Zionist neighborhood of Jerusalem. Just as the Nazis raided ghettos, the Zionist police constantly raid Jewish neighborhoods and inflict violence on Jews.

Israeli police regularly raid the Jewish neighborhood of Mea Shearim in Jerusalem and detain Jews.

    #ZionismisAntisemitism”

Follow them on Twitter X here: @TorahJudaism

Starmer and his bunch of Zionists want to erase the Torah Jews and Palestinians from the face of the Earth.

  6. Absolutely brilliant interview. Once met Arafat at an international adult education conference when they were based in Tunisia & as a w class young man from the inner city I felt something was wrong as their leaders were all living in mansions when thousands of Palestinians were in squalid camps. But Hamas were clever, they got in with the poor offering jobs with them and services. Ant makes a good point saying this is a bid by Hamas for the leadership of Palestinians but it seems suicidal, randomly killing Israeli individuals causing a massive over-reaction by Right Wing Israel which randomly bombs Palestinian individuals resulting in the loss of thousands of lives more.
I remember the last time Gaza was bombed, a few brave (too brave) young Palestinians protested asking Hamas to stop firing rockets into Israel (too many Palestinians were dying) & Hamas turned up and promptly shot them. I have never felt Hamas to be progressive and whilst they want to end the occupation I understand they want an Islamic State when others would prefer One Democratic State with the Right of Palestinian refugees to return, Respecting all religions & peace – with class politics replacing ethnic tensions.
Tragically Hamas have 150 captives & one hopes they are being fed, have water & warmth but Right Wing Israel seems to hold Gaza collectively captive with no food, water & energy hence the US Sec of State’s point on how Israel operates in Gaza. But perhaps the US are hypocrites (?) putting oil, arms sales & capitalist investment in the region first & when the US says jump Lightweight Western leaders say how high?
Is this why Western Leaders are taking one side but I heard one small city in the UK put them all to shame by simply lighting up a building white for Peace. One would hope all captives on all sides are freed, we have a ceasefire, peace & end the occupation.
The world needs honest brokers & only Jeremy Corbyn has talked sense – end the occupation and “All attacks are wrong.”
Recommend Bernard Regan, ‘The Balfour Declaration.’

    1. Bazza, also don’t forget the massive LNG fields recently found offshore belonging to Gaza and Lebanon……

This isn’t just about the rights of other human beings, it’s about fossil fuels in the Middle East being needed in the EU now Russia is out of the equation.

      1. It’s a complex picture, Israel has deals with lots of its neighbours to supply them with gas and will use their reliance on these supplies to manipulate them.

“Deliveries of Israeli gas to Egypt via a subsea pipeline were halted on Tuesday, leaving natural gas volumes to be piped instead via an alternative route that passes through Jordan.
The day prior, Israel’s Energy Ministry temporarily suspended production from the Tamar field, an important source of gas exported to Egypt, resulting in an almost 20 percent drop in the country’s daily gas imports.
This comes as Israel wages one of its most aggressive wars on Gaza in years, following a surprise attack by Hamas last week.
The energy supply decision delivers a major blow to the natural gas resources at Egypt’s disposal. According to former Petroleum Minister Osama Kamal, Israel is leveraging its weight as a gas exporter to apply pressure on Egypt in order to bring about political conditions related to dealing with the Gaza Strip crisis.

  7. Israeli apologists blaming Hamas for Palestinian deaths needs to be met with
Half your country believe the current Israeli government is run by a bunch of Neo Nazis, they clearly blame Netanyahu for the massacre of innocent Jews on Saturday
    What say you
    Sir Gaza Kid Starver

    1. Hamas are not the only boys in town or do people believe that they have control over every young Palestinians thoughts, words and deeds? We shall see when/if the IDF infantry launch a ground assault. 400 thousand reserves vessels called up. How many strange passports will be shown at Israeli airports or are the reservists chewing at the bit. Can we expect a Russian nabka

  8. Washington Engineered the Disastrous Split in the Palestinian National Movement by Daniel Finn in Jacobin

The divide between Hamas in Gaza and Fatah in the West Bank dates back to a crucial period in the mid 2000s. The US and its allies sabotaged an effort to achieve national unity for peace negotiations with dire consequences that are still unfolding today.

    1. Well poisoning old undefeated Yasser didn’t help. Have a look at pictures of him shortly before his passing.
