Black socialists to hold #StandWithDiane rally 1.30 Sunday at Labour conference

Join Black socialists and allies to stand against Labour’s abuse of first Black woman MP

The Labour Black Socialists group will gather at 1.30pm on Sunday 8 October outside the Starmer Labour party’s annual conference to protest in solidarity with Diane Abbott, the UK’s first Black woman MP, against the party’s abuse.

Abbott was suspended by Labour over comments that many Black people believe she should never have apologised for, let alone retracted. Society of Black Lawyers chair and retired judge Peter Herbert has condemned the party’s prejudice political interference.

The Labour right has frequently been slammed for its bigotry and racism toward Black people, Muslims and Gypsy Roma people – and Ms Abbott has been a frequent target even for MPs who were then promoted by Starmer. Even the Starmer-commissioned Forde Report found gross racism among right-wing party figures – but Starmer has refused to take any meaningful action.

The demo will be held outside the Leonardo Hotel (formerly Jurys Inn). Skwawkbox will attend to cover the event, so watch out on the Skwawkbox Facebook for video (Twitter live stream has previously refused to work).
