Starmer costs Labour dear as Greens drive Labour by-election flop in Uxbridge, Frome

Labour fails in Uxbridge despite Johnson scandal and implodes in Somerton and Frome, while results suggest opinion polling exaggerates Labour vote

Despite Labour’s supposed electoral lead over the Tories, the party managed to managed to win only one of three parliamentary by-elections last night, while Labour couldn’t even win in London – and absolutely imploded in Somerton and Frome, seriously under-performing both the LibDems and Greens.

In the Uxbridge and Ruislip by-election, the seat of disgraced former PM Boris Johnson and the constituency with the closest view of Tory lies, contempt and corruption, Labour right-winger Danny Beales – supposedly eight points ahead of his Tory opponent – failed to win in what should have been the easiest of the three to win.

Labour needed only a 7.5% swing to win, just half of its supposed polling, but could not achieve it. The Greens’ increase in vote share was enough to deprive Beales of a win, demonstrating that ordinary people do have alternatives when Labour is so shamelessly betraying them.

In Somerton and Frome, won by the LibDems with a huge swing, Labour’s vote share fell by five sixths compared to the 2019 election fought under Jeremy Corbyn – and the party last night managed only a quarter of the Greens’ vote share, which doubled compared to 2019, exposing the folly of Starmer’s craven pursuit of Tory votes by turning Labour into the Red Tories.

And while the handful of cheerleaders and army of bots supporting Starmer on social media have been shouting about ‘landslide’ wins in the next general election, Labour’s Shadow Leader of the Commons Thangam Debbonaire was forced to admit that the party looks on course for a hung parliament. On the back of flat local election results in May and with Keir Starmer growing less popular with voters the more they see him, even that may be optimistic given the exposure he will have in a general election.
