Tory defector Wakeford given selection free pass – only Labour MP not to face trigger

All the nice Keirs love a Tory…

Tory defector Christian Wakeford has been given a free pass by Keir Starmer and his acolytes to stand for the party in the next general election – the only one of Labour’s hundreds of MPs not to have to face the so-called ‘trigger’ process.

Wakeford announced his ‘confirmation’ – in reality an imposition by a party leader that campaigned for the leadership on a promise of more say for Labour members in their local democracy and has ever since waged war on their democracy, choice and freedom of speech:

Wakeford thanked members ‘for the warm welcome’ but couldn’t thank them for selecting him, because they hadn’t.

As many pointed out, Starmer has given a bye to a Tory MP who once said Labour MPs were ‘c*nts’ – but is determined to oust (for example) Ian Byrne, one of only a handful of decent MPs left in the party:

Hard-right NEC member Luke Akehurst, by contrast, spoke of his pleasure that the organisational committee of the party’s national executive had voted against Starmer’s wish to usher Wakeford through the candidacy VIP lane:

Labour is no longer distinguishable in any positive sense from the Tories. In a negative sense, the party is probably more willing than the Tories to abuse, ignore and break its own rules to serve the interests of the ruling clique – and the media perhaps even more willing to cover for the perpetrators.

In other words, the UK’s democracy is deeply and intentionally corrupted and the people are deprived of a meaningful choice.
