Breaking: Starmer’s ‘public energy co’ exposed as big con

Supposed public-ownership supplier will not supply, but just ‘manage investments to unlock markets’

Keir Starmer’s ‘public energy company’ – a key part of his dreary conference speech that has had his cronies touting his supposed ‘radical’ policy stance as some kind of sign he will actually change anything meaningful – has been exposed as a big con as the details emerge.

Shadow Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds has told Utility Week that the company will not supply energy to anyone.

Instead, Reynolds said that the purpose of ‘Great British Energy’ will be the:

management of the investments, which we believe are essential to unlock these markets and opportunities.

Nothing to do with public energy provision to ensure that UK families do not continue to be ripped off and impoverished by greedy private energy companies making obscene profits, then – just more marketisation of an already broken sector that can only be repaired by full renationalisation.

      1. So Steve H another con from the fascist endeavour hoping to get in by default with the worst examples of government in living memory…..I suspect you might just win but it will be a sour example of more of the same establishment labour party second rate tribute act which is a serious accusation amongst so many vulnerable people in the once gt Britain…!

      2. Joseph – I’m simply passing comment on the veracity of the above article that appears to be based entirely on one short quote with zero context.

      3. So YOU don’t know what the policy is, wee fella? Well skwawky’s highlighted a key point.

And I’ve just googled great british energy

…And guess what? Here’s what your default, fallback, smarmerite shithouse website has to say about it.

        https://labourlist.org/2022/09/great-british-energy-falls-far-short-of-what-the-public-and-the-planet-need/

Even THEY say it’s a steaming pile o’ shite. What say you, O! Enlightened one??? Divulge to us great masses of heathens, your pearls of wisdom, now?

      4. Toffee – I read this highly selective interpretation of Labour’s policy by Corbyn’s economics advisor a couple of days ago but thanks for posting the link because it clearly illustrates what I have been saying for ages that LabourList publishes articles from contributors who come from right across Labour’s ‘broad church’.

      5. Wah hah hah hah Broad Church Wah hah hah hah, does anyone actually still use that self-ridiculed term? That is quite cute actually, and with such conviction!

      6. Kabooom…Here comes the Trolling Chief Turd Polisher. Right on cue again, trying to put a shine on more lies from the racist and corrupt Labour Party.

      7. Is it as disapointing as it is when BlueKeef writes behind the Paywall of the Telegraph, mind you you probably buy the Telegraph daily, didn’t he do the same for The Times and Spectator?

      8. nellyskelly – I don’t have a problem with it. We don’t get the print edition of The Telegraph where I live but anyone can access a limited number of articles for free simply by registering an email address. Even a paid for subscription is affordable for most people whereas an annual upfront subscription for the above site of £1,195 puts it well outside the reach of most people. I very much doubt that anyone who contributes to this site, including SW, has a subscription to utilityweek.
Any attempt to compare the paywalls of these two sites is palpably childish nonsense.

      9. Just as well Steve Walker, a trusted Journalist had access to it so that we don’t have to worry about it, just as he does the Far Right Press, mentioned above, to keep tabs on BlueKeef and his Starmerstruppen. So we don’t have to.

PS. Oh, and yes I do trust Skwawkbox, perhaps not blindly, but I doubt he’d be flattered by anyone who blindly follows him or anyone else for that matter.

      10. nellyskelly – Are you sure about that, he hasn’t quoted anything that isn’t accessible to anyone.

      11. You should watch this! https://youtu.be/_Fdv8lFkh1Q
As far as I am concerned BlueKeef is insane, we have Public Energy that’s been Privatised, thanks to Blair and Thatcher, what is the point in creating another Public Energy Company to tender out for the private sector to run, what is the fucking point in that!? So far he has come up with two totally outragiously undercosted and over priced solutions to the Energy Crisis! When simply renationalising energy at a fraction of the cost of his insane proposals would benefit bussiness and public sector with better regulation and much lower cost! Neoliberalism is going down as the Clowns of political history!

      12. nellyskelly – Perhaps you could explain in detail which sectors of the energy market you would nationalise, how much it would cost and how this would save consumers money.

      13. There are plenty of well detailled information online, how this will save consumers money, REALLY!? FFS!!! Google it or Yandex it to get past the MSM and MSI Propaganda faster.

      14. nellyskelly – Are we to take it that you don’t understand your own rhetoric. You’re a joke.

      15. nellyskelly – Primarily Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.

      16. nellyskelly – If the corrupt imperialist Putin hadn’t invaded the Ukraine then we wouldn’t have the current energy crisis I’m not going to waste my time arguing the toss with you. Piss off back down your 🐰🕳️

      17. I am not arguing, it’s not a hard question to answer ‘how does “the war” in Ukraine affect the price we pay in the UK for our energy bills’?
I just want a one line answer not a thesis. What has Putin/Russia done, apart from the “war”, that caused the UK energy prices to rise to Crises Level?

      18. nellyskelly – You’ve had my response but please don’t let that stop you from explaining why Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has nothing to do with the current energy crisis.

      19. Perhaps you could tell me if you knew that we only import, and I am sure by now used to import from Russia 4% Gas, 9% Oil, 22% Coal now unless someone is Jesus Christ, I can’t see how that accumulates to the devistating energy crisis we are seeing today? Can you?
        https://ibb.co/2NTntLT

      20. Another question if energy companies are reporting record profits, of £Billions, and we rely on very little to no enegy from Russia or Ukraine, is there really a crisis and why are we paying extraordinary prices for energy if the Privatised Companies are reporting such wild profits, we are paying stupid for them to make record Profits. Is this really a Crisis or a Planned Neoliberal Austerity Assault on The PEOPLE!?

      21. PS. With regards to Renationalising Energy, I at this time would agree with you, that we are probably in much safer hands as we are without publically owned anything, because between the two TORY Parties of Truss and BlueKeef we couldn’t trust either not to rob us even more, despite the extraordinary prices we’re already paying, because there will be far more going on under the table, than on the table and the Public would fit the bill just as we are now.
So I guess we’ll have to wait a very long time until “the left finally gets their act together” before we have a government that could be trusted with such an honour.
This Frankenstein Monster of BlueKeef, part good idea, but mostly a typical BlueKeef and his Starmerstruppen Dodgy Dark Shadowy Corner Dealings Experiment ready to make many people very rich and then fail, for the Public to pick up the bill!

      22. nellyskelly – No I’m indifferent. If you want to proselytise a particular point of view then go ahead. As for me I’m simply not interested, the stage is all yours.

      23. Ah, the old SteveH get out of jail free card. I am asking questions, well a question really, which you can’t answer. Why can’t you anwer such basic questions, because you worship the single narative of the MSM. MSM tells you the sky is green, I say no it is still blue, you argue the sky is green, I ask you why do you say it is green when it is obviously still blue, you say “If you want to proselytise a particular point of view then go ahead. As for me I’m simply not interested, the stage is all yours.”
Just to recap these are the questions I am asking a simple answer for:
        1. What has Putin/Russia done, apart from the “war”, that caused the UK energy prices to rise to Crises Level?
        2. The UK imports from Russia 4% Gas, 9% Oil, 22% Coal, how does that accumulate to the devistating energy crisis we are seeing in the UK today?
        3. Energy companies are reporting record profits, of £Billions, and we rely on very little to no enegy from Russia or Ukraine, is this really a Crisis or a Planned Neoliberal Austerity Assault on The PEOPLE!?
I asked a question and you said “you don’t understand your own rhetoric.”.
I tried to break it down to bite-size questions you feel victimised and that I am trying to convert you. To what, I am not sure, you know my stance and I know your stance, but it seem if you are the one yet again dodging the questions, simple questions, that perhaps it is you who does not understand your own or shall we say the MSM rhetoric?

  1. So Sir Don Rodney Starmer sees ‘Great British Energy’ as a corporate facilitator to improve RoI (Return on Investment) for the corporates, NOT as a McDonnell-like people’s utility? Klaus Schwab and the Trilateral gang will be relieved…

    1. Just got an email from Tribune:

TODAY, join us for a wave of protests across Britain against the cost-of-living crisis!

The Enough is Enough campaign will hold demonstrations in 50 cities and towns – including London, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow, Cardiff
      – including London, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow and Cardiff.

The London rally, which takes place at 12pm at Kings Cross, will feature Mick Lynch, Eddie Dempsey and the actor Rob Delaney. In Manchester (Piccadilly Gardens, 12pm) protestors will be joined by Corrie icon Julie Hesmondhalgh, in Newcastle (Grey’s Monument, 12pm) they will be supported by Hairy Biker Si King.

All events will feature striking workers from the biggest wave of national strike action in years, with 200,000 workers from RMT, CWU, ASLEF and TSSA taking to picket lines.

Join us and let’s turn anger into action!

    2. Qwertboi, The Trilateral gang will be relieved he’s doing as he’s been told.

      1. Won’t they just. I suspect they never really doubted him thought a 35pt lead doesn’t just magically appear. It’s brought to us with the compliments and facilitation of the synchronised-MSM.

This has all been scripted (as have many things happening recently).

So even if my green candidate was Attila the Hun dressing Woke, in my constituency I’d consider giving a vote to them before a mafia-like Labour candidate.

  2. As always, with this Labour Party, we always have to wait for the other foot to drop.

  3. Therefore a Socialist Labour party offering clear Red Water would clean up under FPTP
    Methinks

    1. Doug, Although I’m not proposing anyone votes for them, the Green Party looks like it’s assuming the Socialist mantle that Corbyn’s 2017 manifesto so eloquently proposed. They will strip votes away from Labour in most areas and particularly in the marginal seats. Sir Wodney Woodentop will find he’s starting to get woodworm quite soon. Great news.

      1. baz2001
JC joining them, along with unions and supporters, means the Green Socialist Labour party will wipe out both Red and Blue Tories under FPTP

      2. Do you really believe that the bourgeois ‘Greens’ care about the class struggle?

      3. Steve101704
        It would be reverse takeover
Can someone explain how PR would work if you cant even forge coalitions and alliances now to break the kleptocracy

    1. BackofBeyond. Not me for sure. As soon as Woodentop announced it I did some digging and immediately found out the fraud was lying again…..It’s what he does.

  4. You’re ALL missing the point.

It’ll be called GREAT BRITISH Energy..

    Because….Well…“Britain”

  5. Truly sickening also was the cynical exploitation of the people of the Ukraine at Labour’s conference.

Biden, Truss, Starmer etc are no friends of the people of the Ukraine. They are willing to sacrifice them simply to promote regime change in Russia.

  6. SteveH01/10/2022 AT 12:08 PM
Joseph – I’m simply passing comment on the veracity of the above article that appears to be based entirely on one short quote with zero context.

I provided context – from your very own default reference point (labourlist).who also evaluate it as being as much use as cherie bliar’s beautician.

Therefore, what have you to say now?

    1. Toffee – I’ve already pointed out that the article you are quoting wasn’t a LabourList editorial but a personal contribution from Corbyn’s economics advisor.

      1. So fucking WHAT if it was CORBYN’S economics advisor who wrote the article?

Corbyn had smarmer, rayner and plenty of other snide rodents in his broad church of a cabinet – when the party actually resembled something akin to a broad church.

But the al jazeera documentary proves beyond doubt that now it’s anything BUT, and has less than piss-all to offer.

Great British energy for total fuck’s sake. Even worse than when that prick quoted above (reynolds) was going to reform welfare by changing the name of Universal Credit – but still withdraw the £20 covid uplift (Which I didn’t even get).

Fucking charlatans, every last one of them.

      2. And you are thoroughly detestable, you would-be child starving nonce apologist.

  7. SteveH01/10/2022 AT 12:53 PM

    UTTER
    SHITE

You’d attempt (and fail) to insult the (far greater) intelligence of even liz truss, you contemptible, craven, fucking fraud.

Broad church my arse AND yours. If labourlist was a broad church you wouldn’t refer and fall back on it to try to reinforce your smarmerist BOLLOCKS time after time, after time..

Even your pro-smarmerist hacks (correctly) think it’s bollocks, so NOW the site becomes a broad church

    Fuck right off.

    1. Toffee – It really shouldn’t come as a surprise to you, it is something that I have said several times before on these pages.

  8. This is dispiriting if not unsurprising. The events with the Nordstream pipelines should highlight the fact that whatever is upstream, control of the means of distribution is critical and a potential choke point. If a government can take ownership of the distribution then it can increase the level at which it gives preferential usage charges to domestic and ideally sustainable energy sources and restrict or place additional costs on rogue or higher-charging suppliers until such time that they reduce their unit costs and/or adopt systems of governance that are acceptable (which is a different discussion). Further, a government-owned distribution system would be incentivised to increase and make possible contributions from households at favourable rates ie those who have a surplus from solar and other sources. This is of course contingent on supply outstripping demand but my first thoughts are that this would be a way to intervene in the market short of massive investment or purchasing of infrastructure that puts the government in a good position to accelerate away from carbon and centralised energy producers who otherwise can hold us to ransom.

  9. Once again a charlatan that pretends to be Labour has conned members of the Labour Party into thinking this is a pragmatic drive to control energy prices, when its just a vehicle to spend public money into a privatised energy market.

If New Labour was serious, it would take energy into public ownership, and take real control, but as we know, Starmer and his motley crew are privateers not socialists.

This is just another version of Ed Milibands “preferred provider” for the NHS, which conned people into seriously believing that this would stop privatisation, when it did nothing of the sort and just maintained the Tory market in health. Is Ed the genius behind this nonsense?

It really does beg the question today, how many of these so called politicians are working for the corporate sector?

  10. Those pesky Russians stopped their own Nord Stream 2 just as it was coming on stream, slapped sanctions on themselves and then blew up their own pipelines. No wonder gas is so expensive

      1. If you believe that, you’re an even bigger fool than your many posts already show.

        1) Why would Putin blow his expensive pipeline and waste £3/4 billion a day in gas losses when he could simply get a valve turned?

        2) That gas pipe was leverage. Leverage to force people to the table. Why remove that leverage?

You can accuse Putin of many things, but stupid is not one of them.

      2. NVLA – Really, he was stupid to enough to think that invading Ukraine would be a pushover.

  11. Those pesky Russians stoppe0d their own Nord Stream 2 just as it was coming on stream, slapped sanctions on themselves and then blew up their own pipelines. No wonder gas is so expensive

  12. Another reason good why we need a government that we can trust with renationalising Britain, there is not much point in renationalising when the government are more dangerous and conniving than the Privatised Companies!
Anyway here it is, I wonder if this will see ink in the UK MSM!? Mick Napier and David Miller, https://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2022/10/02/690212/British-Telecom-may-become-national-security-threat-under-Israeli-ownership , why is this feeling so much like South Africa apartheid years where the Left/ANC, had to find some obscure foreign paper that would print their news. If only the ANC had the internet back then, we spent fortunes on photocopying!

  13. Unfortunately the “broad church” of the LP has only one aisle, on the right.
There is, of course the Knave.
