Breaking: left wins conference committee and Young Labour elections

The left has won a near-clean sweep in important internal Labour elections today, demonstrating that in spite of mass member resignations the left still holds considerable power among the membership.

Seema Chandwani and Billy Hayes won the vital Conference Arrangements Committee (CAC) elections to retain their seats on the body that plays a key role in deciding the agenda for the party’s annual conference, while the left slate won three out of four elected Young Labour positions.

Despite a year and a half of right-wing manoeuvres and gerrymandering, today’s result will worry Starmer and co that their attempts to control the make-up of conference delegates may not have succeeded.

Seema Chandwani and Billy Hayes were on our “Left” slate!!!
    Brilliant start to the weekend
    📣🏆📣🏆📣🏆

  2. This is fantastic news! And I agree with Signpost, it is indeed a brilliant start to this weekend.

  3. Let’s see what’s on the agenda and what’s not before getting the bunting out..

    1. Toffee – Given that they were both in office for the 2018 & 2019 Labour Party Conferences it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect more of the same.

  4. Good news. Although one wonders how Starmer and his allies will react to this.

  5. Looks like a stronger presence of the 10% UK Labour Party, over the 90% Neolabour Party TORIES after all! I struggle with The Math though! 10% UK Labour Party and 90% Thatcherite Neoliberal Neolabour TORIES. The Few/The Many, The Few/The Many.
This is not a massive deal as deals go, but it is clear indication of The Power of The PEOPLE! Now imagine what we can do with even a reduced Party and COMPLETELY Parasite Free! The sad thing is Seema and Billy will be trawled from Tel Aviv to Miami 24/7, until they find something anything to stick on them and expel them!
I hope this will serve as a reminder that we have The POWER, but they have the Conniving, Sabotaging, Cheating, Lying, Smearing and direct access to The MSM, The Trilateral, Bilateral, Unilateral Commissions and Powerful Ones! Hopefully it does not happen, but there appears to be a clear trend, The UK Labour Party takes important positions and soon after they are Persecuted as “Criminals of the Worst Kind”, expelled/suspended/sacked, by the Thatcherite Neolabour Party TORIES! As I see it we can only start making serious progress and wins, without a constant two/three steps back, if we Expel/Sack/Eject every one of those Sabotaging, Conniving Bastards, if not before, then at the Ballot!

  6. Expect “Young Labour” to be found to be institutionally anti-semitic soon!

    1. Indeed! Watch that video – Even the entryists’ and Sir Keir’s PR looks despondent and despairing.

Thank heavens that Seema and Billy won – despite 100,000+ good Labour people leaving starmer’s anti-Labour party.

      1. Is that right. That video had little bearing on reality. How can showing those placard wavig traitors entice a single left winger to a party of corrupt degenerates?

  7. Can someone explain what this is worth in real money, how does it translate, what should happen next
Vote of confidence in Temporary Embarrassment
    Evans vetoed
A challenge by a history maker to reflect the demographics of our membership and supporters, time to jump a generation or two
The JC legacy is alive and well and waiting

    1. Are you the same ‘Doug’ who posted the following in a comment on here a couple of days ago?:

JC was a spiritual leader but practically useless……..
      Result
      Abject fuckery and failure
Now tell me we will learn our lessons

Now where have I heard that bit about learning lessons before, OR, to be precise, NOT learning lessons……..?

Oh yes, I remember, signpost has repeated it about 500 times during the past eight months or so.

I knew I’d heard it somewhere!

PS It’s actually more like seven/eight hundred times.

  8. This is the third victory for Seema Chandwani and Billy Hayes as CLP Reps on CAC. Great stuff!

I hope CLPs’ Topics and Timetable interests are served well by the two of them – so that Evans is not our GS the day after Conference and the long-grass ‘delays’ that Starmer needs to subject the Forde Report to can, like the wonderful Independent MP for Islington North, be suspended.

We can dream. But why not??

  9. Jonathan Cook’s latest post (and a few clips from it):

During the first 16 months of mass suffering spurred by the pandemic, the world’s 2,690 billionaires increased their fortunes by $5.5 trillion – hoarding more global wealth than they managed in the previous 15 years.

The billionaires own the media. So one can hardly be surprised that the IPCC’s warning that we are standing on the edge of a precipice writing our species’ suicide note rated second billing in many papers, while others frantically grasped for silver linings or attention-grabbing but mind-numbing “Code Red” headlines worthy of a Thomas Harris thriller.

No one abhors Richard Branson and his rich “astronaut” customers for frittering away many millions on a few seconds in space when the oceans are choked with plastics, the insects are disappearing and burning forests are not storing but pouring carbon into the atmosphere.

Even some of the preferred responses of western states to the pandemic – socially distanced living, increasingly as digital beings online, combined with surveillance capitalism and increased powers for the police – disturbingly foreshadow the “longtermist” fantasies of the super rich.

    1. Jonathan Cook always produces excellent articles, but this is in a class of its own. Absolutely chilling and a ‘must read’.

      1. He’d be the star columnist were he at the guardian still,or any other newspaper for that matter, if given complete freedom to write. Alas, his exile from the MSM illustrates starkly the tight control over information. And how, as far as the MSM goes, we’ve got a ‘free press’ in name only.

    2. Small change to those bastards, just watch their magic money tree blossom when the climate change fascists get going. Always remember your parasol when enjoying your green pass freedoms. Wow just like Soweto. Mmm nice.

  10. Good news re. Seema Chandwani and Billy Hayes.
I have no doubt that every dirty, underhand, anti-democratic, bureacratic trick will be rolled out at Labour Conference to ensure that the leadership gets its way.
    Just saying !

  11. They won’t last long…..Brick by Left Wing Brick the edifice is being dismantled.

Ken Loach is finally thrown out of the Labour Party, how many more reasons does anybody need to leave the stinking rat infested Labour Ship?

“Labour HQ finally decided I’m not fit to be a member of their party, as I will not disown those already expelled. Well…’ KL”

  12. Who votes for all these ‘right wing’ candidates in the Labour Party?

  13. So what socialism is dead in Labour the so-called Left is kidding themselves and trying to keep the dam Titanic from sinking but the right is hitting all the icebergs…

So I am not impressed people are wasting their time on this while being silent on members being kicked out. JC’s removal of this appeasement and acceptance of whatever the damn cult of new Labour 2.0 does are sickening. I could list event after event they have remained silent and appeased over so whoopie they won a worthless round in this battle they have already lost wake up!

    1. Hullo grandad. Idealism has it’s place but so do social workers and that’s in jail. It stopped being rose tinted specs along time ago now it’s just glaucoma. Take care, wobbly.

  14. To soon to say this bodes well for the Unite result?

If ‘ bad penny’ Coyne wins, all bets are off.

  15. Democracy? Starmer will be in a panic. Mandelson will be sticking pins in his effigies of Corbyn, Nye Bevan, Keir Hardie and Adam Smith. Yes, Adam Smith because he wrote in The Theory of Moral Sentiments: “The pursuit of personal wealth is a delusion.” If you think that’s odd, just remember, the Adam Smith Institute has never read Adam Smith. When democracy prevails, the common folk win. That’s why it has to be subverted by the media and stodgy, inept, compliant, sycophantic bundles of thickened conformism like Starmer. To the barricades !

    1. Good point about Adam Smith. None of his adherents have read even The Wealth etc. That big red faced, coked up charlatan, Shredded Wheat bonce, Andrew Neil, is a good example of your point along with his Hayek loving Thatcherite chums at Glasgow uni. Monetary clowns all, but wealthy. They all read that word. Regards.
