Left group supports one candidate also backed by Momentum – but not other
Left activist group CLPD (Campaign for Labour Party Democracy) has rejected half of the ‘slate’ of candidates that Momentum backed on Thursday in the National Executive Committee (NEC) by-elections – backing one but not the other.
Momentum has supported Lauren Townsend and Tameside mayor Leigh Drennan, a close ally of Momentum founder Jon Lansman. But late on Thursday CLPD announced:
CLPD are not replacing two BAME NEC members [Claudia Webbe and Nav Mishra, who were elected as MPs in December] with two non-BAME. We are supporting Lauren and Cecile Wright.
Wright is a member of the CLPD executive but also a vice-chair of Momentum.

And what happened to CLPD’s early endorsement of Mohammed Azam?
Why not supporting Jo Bird, she is the left candidate with most nominations? I guess that Lasman doesn’t like her and CLPD still dance to Lasman’s tune, shame.
No problems supporting Cecile Wright, she has an independent mind. The fact that Lasman isn’t supporting her, should tell us that Cecile is worth having in the NEC.

Well – who’d have guessed that?
The NEC and central administration is now so discredited that it is beyond repair. A complete hosing-down is needed now that it has proved beyond Jennie Formby’s ability to reform it and not jump about to the BoD tune.
The disciplinary process in particular is so raddled, and so obviously a factional tool, that there is no hope for any proper transparent procedures to be put in place.
Vote for a colour? Bob Marley once sang…”until the colour of a man;s skin is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes, everywhere is war”. Still true & includes women, but you prefer to vote for what somebody is & not who, or their beliefs & ideologies?
