Labour leader’s work for student detained by Home Office and threatened with deportation honoured
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was last night presented with an honorary life membership of Strathclyde Student Union for his efforts to help a student threatened with deportation by the Home Office after living in England for nine years. The National Union of Students mounted a vigorous campaign against the deportation of Lord Elias Mensah Apetsi, who had been arbitrarily detained by the Home Office.

Wonderful to see @jeremycorbyn presented with an honorary life membership of @StrathUnion tonight for his work supporting postgrad student Lord Elias Mensah Apetsi, who was arbitrarily detained and threatened with deportation by the Home Office in 2016. We must end this practice.
Typically of the Labour leader, he made no noise about his award before the event, but Mr Apetsi made a moving speech during the presentation thanking Corbyn on behalf of his family, his little boys and the student movement for his efforts:

What a problem : not reporting positives about Corbyn coupled with editing out Johnson’s crassness whilst stumbling around the country could create a big hole in the ‘news’!

Might be worth reminding the civil service that Labour in office will take a principled attitude to misconduct in public office, unlike the laissez-faire Tories – especially where it May be racially motivated.
