Breaking: Spelman becomes 22nd Tory to rebel against Johnson

Meriden MP voted with Johnson last night but against him today
Dame Caroline Spelman

Sharp-eyed observers may have spotted that Boris Johnson lost a vote today by one vote more than he did last night.

Meriden MP Caroline Spelman voted with Johnson last night, but today rebelled – the only Tory MP to do so, since last night’s twenty-one are counted today as independents in the vote tally after Johnson imploded and expelled them by withdrawing the whip.

Ms Spelman is expected to receive notification of the withdrawn Tory whip before the end of the day.

Boris Johnson is the first PM since 1896 to lose his very first Commons vote. The SKWAWKBOX is trying to ascertain whether there has ever been a PM who lost his first two.

Will it be a new record if he doesn’t manage to pass a single bill during his tenure as PM.

  2. Nice scarf but what’s this got to do with news. Even a brain-damaged toad would refuse to support Bo-job Boris; Phillip Hammond speaks for this type of Tory (their acceptability being an entirely relative proposition) saying earlier today: “I’d rather boil my own head than hand power to Corbyn.” When Bevan described the Tories as vermin, he didn’t stop to distinguish between black rats and brown rats.

  3. General election and go for.it.We’ve been dictated to by our right wing traitors for too long. The people deserve better than another missed chance… More lies from sir bloody Starmer,.Don’t miss the chance for a Labour government.. Election now are let the torys regroup and give victory to our treacherous PLP… Time to listen to Jeremy Corbyn.
