Britain Elects finally mentions poll showing Labour lead

Organisation had attracted criticism for failing to mention poll with Labour lead while focusing on YouGov poll showing Labour trailing

Polling aggregator Britain Elects was criticised earlier today for ignoring a ComRes poll showing Labour with a clear lead in general election voting intention, while focusing on a poll by YouGov – a pollster with a record of understating Labour’s popularity – that showed Labour polling badly.

The negative poll was seized on by ‘mainstream’ pundits such as Robert Peston.

At 6.11pm this evening, some twenty-two hours after ComRes published its poll, Britain Elects finally tweeted the details – but still attracted criticism for its unusually slow response:

A Britain Elects spokesperson told the SKWAWKBOX:

We haven’t ignored, it’s on our timeline now. Tweeted now instead of earlier as we were clearing time for our exclusive polling.

Last week, many media continued to refer to another YouGov poll giving poor results for Labour for days after other polls showed the party with a significant lead.

  1. Participants in YouGov polls are self selected. Anyone can join and you are encouraged to sign up friends. I joined a few years ago as part of a refugee support group. Why not sign up? We can change the demographic and affect the results.

  2. None of them are any good imo. Curtice might’ve got it right once, doesn’t make him some sort of prognosticator.

And I don’t know anyone who’s been subject to a survey from any of them companies.
