Coup expected to break cover after EU results. Members must be ready – for sake of people and planet

Labour activist group warns members not to be ‘caught napping’

Labour insiders are expecting the latest anti-Corbyn coup – telegraphed for some time now – to break cover in the aftermath of the European Parliament election results to be announced this evening.

Unite general secretary Len McCluskey, in a Radio Five Live interview, predicted the same, pinning the blame on anti-Corbyn agitators such as Tony Blair and Peter Mandelson – and pointing to a Tom Watson article this morning, calling for a commitment to a new referendum, as the first sign.

Now a leading Labour activist group, run by the maker of Labour’s recent political broadcasts, has issued a social media thread warning Labour members to be ready to respond – and to remember the context:

SKWAWKBOX view:

As ever, the plotters are driven by fear and self-interest – fear that the likely announcement of a general election once a new Tory leader is in place will unite anti-Tory forces behind Labour and sweep Jeremy Corbyn into Downing Street.

In the minds of Corbyn’s opponents inside and outside the Labour Party, the poverty and suffering of millions and deaths of tens of thousands under Tory policies are irrelevant compared to the priority of preventing their own ultimate irrelevance and loss of influence.

Labour members need to be ready for the test – for the sake of the many.

  1. ”In the minds of Corbyn’s opponents inside and outside the Labour Party, the poverty and suffering of millions and deaths of tens of thousands under Tory policies are irrelevant compared to the priority of preventing their own ultimate irrelevance and loss of influence.”

    Never truer words.

It’s apparent who’s who and where they stand; we know who, and what, you are…Let there be no forgiveness if they subvert and thwart the common good to serve their own venal, mercenary interests.

    1. …or it might simply be those who want a Labour Government trying to get the Party to change course and get rid of a policy which is neither obviously left wing or right wing, but is causing us to haemorrhage support to the greens and lib Dems.

      1. There is a difference in trying to change policy democratically and disagreeing with each other fraternally and in private and participating in yet another disgraceful attempt to oust the leader who was twice elected by a LANDSLIDE because the coupers see he is on the verge of taking us into government and they don’t want a socialist government. This is unforgivable.

    2. Completely agree with you Toffee. There will be no way back for any plotter who seeks to destroy our chances of a socialist government.

      1. There ought to be NO peace for them if it’s the case.

As the old curse goes: ‘May all their teeth fall out, except one which will never leave. May their remaining tooth forever plague them with toothache’

      2. I am absolutely outraged at the thought that these unpleasant arrogant idiots will launch another coup. We need to have a clear out NOW

  2. I really do hope these rumours of a coup are unfounded. I think I speak for most members when I say that we are only beginning to get over what the chicken coupers did in 2016. Any re-run will NEVER be forgiven and many of us will make it our life’s work to oust these people from their well paid jobs which they owe to us and our leadership team.

  3. If recent history is anything to go by, the results will not be nearly as bad for Labour as the MSM predicted, and any coup will fail miserably like all the others.

    Let us see what happens,…

    1. I have been thinking the same about the results myself. There is always a low turnout in the EU elections although some Tories may turn out and vote for the Brexit party this time in order to send a message to their party.
However I can’t see our members going out and voting against our candidates despite the advice from Margaret Hodge and Alastair Campbell to do so- lets hope this turns out to be the case.

  4. The coup has begun on the BBC TV coverage of the Euro-election results tonight but none other than EMILY THORNBERRY.

Corbyn sure needs to watch his back when she’s around.
