Chuka Umunna laughed off the barbed quip on today’s Politics Live programme – but presenter Andrew Neil’s come-back hit close to home
Labour MP Melanie Onn’s appearance on today’s edition of the BBC’s Politics Live programme was memorable not least for her owning ex-Labour quitter Chuka Umunna.
During a discussion of the likely next Tory leader, Ms Onn held out a nettle in a velvet glove as she quipped that she’d heard Umunna – also a guest on the programme – might ‘go for it’:
Umunna tried to laugh it off, but presenter Andrew Neil rubbed salt in by retorting “For Tory Prime Minister? Well he might well!”

Umunna’s – and his group’s – aversion to facing the will of his constituents at the ballot box may do more to prop up the Tory government than any officially-Tory MP over the coming days.
The ‘TI(N)G(E) group” has already said that it will not support a no-confidence motion in order to avoid an early general election, as well as making clear its MPs will not trigger by-elections to give local voters the chance to express their verdict on their decision to jump ship and form their not-a-party.

I suppose the tigglywigglys could hire agency workers to drop leaflets for them if May called a snap GE.
Can’t see many people traipsing the streets unpaid for a manifesto-less non-party of Quislings, quitters and splitters – and for canvassing there’d have to be words strung together well enough to pass the doorstep sniff test – not their strong suit, any of them.
