Video footage makes a mockery of media’s persistent description of an ‘egging’ or ‘pressing an egg’ onto Corbyn’s head
CCTV footage released of the attack on Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn at Finsbury Park mosque reveals the full violence of the attack on him by the now-jailed John Murphy.
The media’s persistence in referring to the attack as an ‘egging’ or ‘pressing an egg onto Corbyn’s head’ – in spite of eye-witness accounts of its violence – is exposed as either culpably negligent or deliberate trivialisation:
Corbyn’s head can be clearly seen to rock back with the force of the blow as he was struck from the side in the surprise attack, before shocked onlookers wrestle Murphy away from him.
Murphy, who made an explicit death threat against politicians he perceived as not carrying out Brexit, was jailed for twenty-eight days yesterday. At least one other right-winger followed up the news of Murphy’s sentencing with a further implied threat to Corbyn personally.
The media’s contortions to avoid giving Corbyn a fair hearing or representation is a disgrace – as is their determination to trivialise a right-wing attack that was serious and violent and which could easily have been as tragic as that against murdered MP Jo Cox.
