Breaking: Arron Banks referred to National Crime Agency over referendum donations

breaking

Brexiteer and former UKIP funder Arron Banks has been referred by the Electoral Commission to the National Crime Agency for investigation over millions of pounds of donations and loans allegedly from ‘impermissible’ non-UK companies.

Rumours have long abounded about the source of Banks’ donations, which he has maintained he funded himself.

Companies in the Isle of Man and Gibraltar are believed to be involved, although they may not be the ultimate source of the funds. The Electoral Commission believes a number of serious criminal offences are involved, according to BBC News.

  1. All that money & they still miss the point. There are a great many reasons for leaving the EU, but Johnson; Davis; Banks et al. didn’t spot any of them. Ask Dennis Skinner.

  2. I have a strong feeling the current (token) electoral expenses fraud case outcome will be a bellwether for any future prosecutions – IF there are any, of course.

  3. “Companies in the Isle of Man and Gibraltar are believed to be involved”
    Surely not? 🙂

  4. Please find him guilty and bang him up, I think his views would make life inside hellish. Would love to see Farage slopping out.

    1. Ridiculous as it is, Jim. even in the extremely unlikely event they were convicted (Never mind even prosecuted) they’d be deemed: ‘No risk to society’ , and as such would do any ‘budgie’ (Again in the unlikely event that any sentence wasn’t a suspended) in a cushy open nick where they’d be free to come & go as they please…

It’s a nice notion, seeing them slopping out with the rest of the lags – Eric pickles’d wake up skinny before that was to happen, though.

      More’s the pity. 🙁
