As the SKWAWKBOX has covered, over the last year and more the established social media channels have been making more and more changes to restrict the visibility of alternative news media – and even deleting media pages or accounts completely.
The SKWAWKBOX is making a new means available for followers to find, read and share its articles by launching a Telegram channel.
Telegram is a messaging platform whose basic functionality will be similar to those who have used WhatsApp. However, it also has a channels feature allowing any user to follow information they find of interest in the same way they’d follow a Twitter account – and, crucially, it was created and is run by an individual with a vocal commitment to free speech.
To use Telegram, all readers need is a mobile phone and to download the free app. To follow the SKWAWKBOX channel follow this link, which also gives visitors the opportunity to download and install the app, then open the channel.
Once Telegram is installed, search for SKWAWKBOX and click to see the feed. Use the menu button in the top right corner and click ‘Join Channel’:
Notifications can also be set up to receive a prompt when new posts are published. User information is are not visible to other subscribers.
For those who prefer to follow their news via PC/Mac/laptop, desktop versions are available – install on your phone first and then install the desktop version on the other machine and follow the set-up instructions to link them.
The SKWAWKBOX Twitter and Facebook feeds will continue unchanged, at least subject to the actions of those platforms, but please follow and share the new Telegram channel and use it as a secure source of posts that can be shared on your other social media feeds.

Yet another app that insists on being given permission to snoop before you can install it.
I fear that’s the nature of apps. Can any messaging platform function without access to contacts etc?
My mobile phone is only used for family and friends. How does that leave me?
As long as you set it up on your mobile phone first, you can install the desktop version of Telegram and follow posts from there

I started on my mac and was directed to key in my(£30) Nokia pay as you go number – don’t think it’s what you’d call a smart phone. Can now access SB on Telegram app. fine on my desktop.
Very good app have it already no censorship unlike facebook or twitter. used extensively in other countries
It’s a pity that new technology is alien to older generations. Mobile ‘phones drive me nuts, as do many of the people who use them. I grow tired of people who are oblivious of anyone but themselves, talking loudly & incessantly on their mobile ‘phone while crashing into you. I now realise why they must be given priority when crossing roads or evolution would take its toll.
It would be no bad thing if evolution were allowed to take its toll.
Good idea but as someone who doesn’t have a mobile phone and never intends to get one not so much use to me. It’s worth remembering that Israel and the USA use mobile phones to target their enemies in Gaza, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen & elsewhere and the day may come when they target you too in Billericay, Kalamazoo or wherever.
I don’t have a smart phone – just a pay as you go mobile for calls and texts. So does that mean I won’t be able to get it?
You can download the app from the MS Windows Store. As part of the sign-up process you are sent a code via text message so it looks like you’ll be OK to run it from your PC.

Will this work on an Ipad?
It’s important if thousands of people are going to be leaving fb as their political communication to choose the right one. Could SKWAWKBOX be the focus for researching the one before deciding on Telegraph? Others exist like Diaspora, Reddit, which are free of ads and spying and might have more advantages.
