Following – and possibly accelerated by – the resignation of Chris Williamson from the Labour front bench today, a senior Labour source has told the SKWAWKBOX that opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn is looking to reorganise his top team.
Names in the frame for promotion include NW Durham MP Laura Pidcock, Kensington’s Emma Dent Coad – strongly tipped to replace Chris Williamson as Shadow Fire and Rescue Minister, no doubt connected to her excellent representation of her Grenfell Tower constituents – and former Lincoln nurse Karen Lee to the health team.
At least one of the major Cabinet-level shadow offices is said to be likely to change.
A reshuffle to give Corbyn the opportunity to blood some of the best talent of the 2017 intake will be welcome, while those who’ve enjoyed Williamson’s fearlessness will welcome the presence of further outspoken left-wingers on the front bench.
