Collective response to attacks on jobs, pay and conditions shuts down Paris Carrefour store
French workers working for the Carrefour supermarket chain have invaded and occupied a Carrefour store in the Parisian suburb of Courbevoie this morning, in response to a ‘massive attack’ by the chain’s management on jobs, pay and conditions:
Journalist Luc Auffret wrote of the action:
Occupation and blockade at the Carrefour de Courbevoie by the CGT Commerce [union federation] to denounce the group’s rental management policy and its consequences (job losses, deterioration of working conditions, etc.) More than half of the workforce has been cut at this store.
The union had issued a call to action to workers yesterday:
We have been denouncing this for several years: we have been warning about the perverse use of lease-management in commerce, and in particular in mass distribution.
The acceleration of its use goes hand in hand with a dramatic deterioration in working conditions and job losses.
These multinationals, fed up with public aid and dividends, optimize their profits by sacrificing workers in their murderous strategies.
Workers are determined to fight against these social scourges and to demand social responsibility from the parent companies.
The CGT Commerce and Services Federation calls on all these activists to gather in front of the Carrefour Market in Courbevoie, Charras Shopping Center, 12 rue Baudin, 92400 Courbevoie at 9:30 a.m.
As so often, the French could give lessons to the British in terms of taking no crap from exploitative and abusive corporations and governments and banding together to stop it.

We have a lot to learn from the french. We are too complacent

Fabulous. Yes we could and should learn lessons but probably won’t until its too late. Since 1789 its been in their blood but of course they too turned on each other Girondins versus Jacobins, just like we lefties spend more time attacking each other than fighting the enemy – but bear in mind that Le Pen is on the rise in France like Farage here. French farmers in that heavily agrarian economy, took no time at all in spraying the police who tried to break up their protest on some other oppressive anti worker measure, with liquid manure. I like their style.
” just like we lefties spend more time attacking each other than fighting the enemy”
Speak for yourself please!
But he’s not far from the truth is poetry m. There is so much fighting that these toerags get away with their greed and unscrupulous treatment of the people’s they supposed to look after until we learn to attack those who have had it to long in their power
