‘Antisemitism’ smear pair ordered to pay victim almost £140k in costs

Defeated perpetrators must pay 90% of James Wilson’s legal costs – on top of £30k damages – for child danger smear over argument about ‘Labour antisemitism’ and the unfit ‘definition’ of antisemitism

Two Israel supporters who smeared a left-wing opponent as ‘a freak who takes pictures of kids’ have been ordered to pay almost £140,000 in costs to their victim, on top of an award of £30,000 in damages made after James Wilson won his libel trial against them. The smear put Wilson and his family in fear of physical harm – and the pair’s conduct of their defence, advised by pro-Israel lawyer Mark Lewis, smeared Wilson even further.

James Mendelsohn and Edward Cantor were ordered to jointly pay 90% of Wilson’s legal costs, which he estimates at around £140,000 – which Wilson announced with additional words for the pair’s notorious pro-Israel lawyer and his poor advice:

A third defendant, university lecturer Peter Newbon – a director of notorious anti-left group ‘Labour against Antisemitism’ – committed suicide before the conclusion of the case. Read a timeline of the events and legal case, which Skwawkbox covered extensively as the ‘mainstream’ media largely ignored it, here.

The pair wheeled out a string of anti-left witnesses to smear Wilson during the legal proceedings, including right-wing Israel advocate David Hirsh, along with judge, genocide-denier and ‘Labour against Antisemitism’ founding co-signatory Simon Myerson, who was subsequently sanctioned by the judiciary for judicial misconduct over his social media output and is no longer a judge. Their ‘evidence’ was rejected by the libel court judge.

  1. EXCELLENT of them to take action to rebut lies and smears !
BRILLIANT that they defended themselves !!
Even more brilliant to win in court !!!

    1. Lets watch. Hands up anyone who thinks those liars defeated in court, will slander Wilson again❔❔❔
He has made it public that he will fight to defend himself, and WON!!!

  2. Should have had to pay all his costs. It amounts to £14k for the victim. But I am sure the whole cost will hurt the thugs. Im so pleased. We need to see more of this.

  3. “If any of the people who supported the Defendants want to help the Defendants again, there’s always the option to email Mark Lewis and Patron Law and politely suggest they pay up.”

Perhaps the Lobby will organise a crowd funder?

On another note, the search engine shows no media reporting of this event other than this Skwawkbox report.

Which means – for all those who appear “surprised” about public opinion on this site – that the general populace will be uninformed of this smear and will remain convinced that what they are told about anti-semitism in the Labour Party is reflective of reality.

Which in turn will doubtless show up in opinion polls.

Do you understand how it works yet, Billy? Or are you going to feign ignorance?

  4. What a heart-warming article !
How pleasing to see these thugs strung up with their own rope !

  5. Dave Hansell: “Which in turn will doubtless show up in opinion polls.”

I’d argue that whether it features as a future correlated (reduced) number or not, it is already removing Starmer’s pretend (WEF-/ Davos) Labour from a significant body of support: Pretend-Labour only received 20.1% of all available votes at GE24 and seems determined not to increase its support-base.

Of course, the low voting figures had more to do with convinced-Tories not voting at all, as well as 25+% of normal Labour voters rejecting Sir Keir’s genocide-enabling zionism, his determination to implement ongoing-Austerity, and, most encouragingly, his resolute support for NATO and the US’ perpetual war and sanctions it facilitates.

Starmer’s ‘landslide’ victory and large majority has already caused Pretend-Labour “to fail its first major test in government” according to Stephen Flynn, Westminster leader of SNP (on the 2-child benefit cap).

Re. pretend-labour’s future opinion polls, ‘the only way is (NOT) up’, but sadly, weaponising ‘antisemitism’ is unlikely to be the reason, for as you said yourself: “the search engine shows no media reporting of this event other than this Skwawkbox report” – austerity, Gaza, NHS and increased authoritarianism: He doesn’t stand a chance.

    1. qwerboi – Appreciate your emphasis of the point being made for the benefit of those who, for whatever inexplicable reason – Ignorance? Arrogance? Disinterest? Disdain? Terminal Obtuseness? – seem to be “surprised'” at opinions expressed in opinion polls.

      As this article notes…….

“…..fifteen years ago, people had to have a desktop or notebook computer to access their favorite websites or chat with friends. Today, the overwhelming majority use smartphones not only for the services they used to do on the computer, but also to record videos and photos and spread them around the world on social media. Around 60% of Internet users access social networks, which means an absurd democratization of both the production and acquisition of knowledge of current and historical facts.

The huge demonstrations that have been taking place in Europe, the United States and in various parts of the world in recent months against the genocide committed by Israel in Gaza have reached such large proportions precisely because of the access to photos, videos and reports of the reality in Gaza. And this only happened thanks to social media, predominantly, and independent journalism channels. To a large extent, thanks to the Palestinians themselves who share their cruel reality with the world from the rubble of Gaza. If they depended on traditional media outlets, controlled by the bourgeoisie, in which ordinary citizens are only recipients, these people would not be knowing the truth about the genocide and would not mobilize against it.”

Though, as we regularly witness, not everyone chooses to operate to the necessary moral compass to learn from such information – even at lower levels of society. Choosing instead to act as cheerleaders and excuse peddlers for the unacceptable.

      1. You’re way too optimistic and hopeful for me Dave. The technologies you mention are being used by the PtB to control and manipulate, misinform and demotivate us. Right now, today. The shite about it providing ‘democratisation’ and personal/societal empowerment is not an accurate description of the surveillance technologies we are willingly embracing on the PtB’s terms. More a jailor than a liberator, it cannot be otherwise until it is consciously changed.

Labour’s 2019 GE Manifesto had one well-hidden line which terrified technologists like Google, Facebook, Apple and M’soft: It promised to assign “ownership” of the data that our use of digital technologies creates to the generator (the user) – and the mighty corporate technologists recognised it as the threat it was. Most people – even the educated and informed cognoscenti – kinda missed it.

      2. cont…
        We’re re-arranging deckchairs whilst our democracy sinks…

  6. The Loveless Landslide was also built on a surprise date with little time to organise
Time to mimic the French left and bring together every anti Fascist group and have those conversations on which single candidate will stand as well as the groundwork that will be needed to get the vote out
    4 years and counting

    1. “Should the ICC proceed with the arrest warrants, the possibility could arise that Mr Netanyahu and Mr Gallant would be asked not to set foot on British soil, to avoid being arrested by the UK authorities.”

Not just his arse but also his brain.

And here we all are thinking this particular lawyer is smart.

Has he forgotten already the precedent set by Jack Straw in regard to the butcher Pinochet?

All you need is a tame medic to diagnose Netenyahu with something like creeping senility or, better still, a personality disorder – who the F**k could argue with that one – and jobs a good ‘un.

You just cannot get the bleedin’ staff these days.
