Starmer suspends 7 Labour MPs for voting to remove cruel 2-child benefit cap

Keir Starmer has suspended seven MPs for voting for an SNP amendment to his King’s Speech calling for the ending of the cruel ‘two-child benefit cap’.

Apsana Begum, Richard Burgon, Ian Byrne, Imran Hussain, Rebecca Long Bailey, John McDonnell and Zarah Sultana are now sitting as independent MPs for wanting an end to needless child poverty.

The cap on benefits pushes around 300,000 children into poverty and drastically worsens the situation of over a million more – and lifting it would save an estimated £40bn at a cost of only some £1.6bn, so the UK is spending around £38bn a year to keep more than a million children poor.

Shamefully, Starmer earned the nickname Sir Kid Starver by saying before the general election that he would not end the Tory-created cap – and after breaking every promise he ever made to do anything good, this one he decided to keep. But he can always find money for arms to Ukraine and spending on war.

The now-independent MPs should immediately form a caucus with the independent MPs who ousted Starmer’s drones earlier this month and reach a cooperation agreement with the new Green MPs – after the past four and a half years without one, the UK needs an actual opposition.

  1. And yet STILL, some remain and will remain forever self blinded by their own hope. They terminally confuse their aims with those of bad, Bad, 🅱️🅰️D news SIR Starmer. Such have ZERO idea that it is WE who must implement our aims and ditch the disgraceful LONG STANDING willingness to accept crumbs… should any fall
    🔵🥀🔵🥀🔵🥀🔵🥀🔵🥀🔵🥀

    1. The MPs suspended should join the 5 independents and form a political party to stand up to Starmer from the left.

  2. Apparently 81% of those affected by the cruel 2 child benefit cap are in work,
    working people eh Labour?
This all stems from the fact that Right Wing Lightweight Labour (a) lacks the political bottle to fight for the poor and (b) lacks the political acumen to counter the dominant right wing narrative on Welfare.
Our working class welfare state is stigmatised & is deliberately meagre (accept poor pay & conditions or this is what you’ll get) but there is also the luxurious upper class welfare state where the rich & big business are subsidised to the hilt with tax concessions & handouts eg big business gets £93b a year (£3,200 per household, Chackraborty, Guardian).
The Tories backed by its media deliberately set neighbours v neighbours on welfare to DISTRACT from their luxurious welfare state and of course the very rich are distant from most peoples lives so some mugs fall for it and turn on each other, including the Right Wing Labour Mugs!
Govts can just find the money eg £3b a year for Ukraine or just have a 5% Wealth Tax on all those worth £10m plus (a 1% wealth tax on this group would bring in £11b – Financial Times so x5).
Right Wing Labour think they’re being tough but the very comfortable just dehumanise themselves.

    1. “Right Wing Lightweight Labour” NEITHER “(a) lacks the political bottle to fight for the poor” NOR “(b) lacks the political acumen to counter the dominant right wing narrative on Welfare.”

RATHER, it is their CHOICE to fight for the rich and status quo.

Mandelson himself said; DON’T bother about the poor, they have nowhere else to go.”

Concessions granted to SOME MPs were the Whips’ carrots / bribes to support eg infamously the Blair creature’s craven fanboying George Bush’s invasion of Iraq.

IF the Right Wing LIGHTweight “lacks political acumen”; then what does it say about our Left Wing HEAVYweights, who have been outwitted, and discarded with consummate ease, EVEN when we had the largest party in Europe❔❔❔

Sir Starmer and Co. have ALWAYS done, do, and will ALWAYS do as they CHOOSE, because they WANT to. Tis as simple as that.

They have THEIR aims. We to our tragic peril, ASSUME their aims are ours.
      🧿🎯🧿🎯🧿🎯🧿🎯🧿🎯🧿🎯

      1. They also have their lickspittle worm tongue cheerleaders.

  3. I am certain a racist anti muslim decision. 3 muslims out of 6. All speak out against Israel.

    1. Utter bollocks. Don’t make it something it patently isn’t. What next? It’s designed entirely and exclusively to prevent muslims from having large(r) families, in case the gobshite jd vance’s proclamation about being a muslim.nation rings true in future ?

As many non-muslims voted against as Muslims. The other muslim MPs (and I take it there are more than three others) must’ve supported keef. (And they can fook right off as well)

It’s nought but a vindictive, nonsensical, anti-poor decision. May those who backed it suffer a prolonged spell of personal misfortune for the completely unnecessary suffering they’ll nonchalantly inflict on others.

    1. “I’m quite looking forward to a (smarmerite) labour govt”

      Guess who said that?

Give you movement in your nether regions, does it, nonce case? Oh!! But now you can point yet another opinion poll that says you’re (supposedly) with the majority, so that justifies your child-harming propensities doesn’t it?

      Burn in hell.

      1. No Billy. It may be a surprise to you, but hardly a surprise to anyone paying attention.

In a context in which people are consistently – as almost daily, year in, year out – consuming a single sided narrative which portrays anyone worse off than themselves requiring a social security safety net as ‘benefit scroungers’ (even those in work) in a narrative pushed by a Corporate media owned by a handful of over wealthy oligarchs it is not surprising at all.

It is a well understood process known as the manufacture of consent. Which boils down to a fancy term for propaganda. Which operates across every issue one can conceive of.

Just about everyone else on this site, at least, understands this reality and the way it works. No one needs reminding. We have not suddenly forgotten overnight.

Only those who are constantly taken in by the propaganda narrative will find such figures “surprising’. It is therefore also no surprise to anyone on this site that you, Billy, would find such data ‘surprising’.

Much like the media segment, a few years ago, in which a number of reasonably comfortable senior citizens critical of others receiving benefits found themselves surprised to have it spelled out for them the number of benefits they were receiving which they had conveniently decided not to class a benefits to fool themselves they were better – and therefore more virtuous – than those they deemed ‘below themselves’.

Like free prescriptions, free bus travel, concessionary rail fares, etc, which they clearly saw as the perks of old age rather than part and parcel of the benefits’ system.

If you seriously think you are providing some kind of service, posting material like this on the basis that just because you, Billy, think it is surprising ergo everyone else will also find it surprising you really need to get onto the same page as the rest of us in the Reality Based Community.

    2. Herr Flick
Only 2% of Jews in Israel oppose the Genocide, the rest think its not happening fast enough
      Heil Hitler to the Fuhrer
Unequivocally behind starving children and the Holocaust in Gaza
Watch the polls collapse for Red Tories, now the disinfectant of light shines brightly on the fuckers

      1. For the Record
On no other planet in any alternative Universe do ‘Jews commit Genocide’
        Thems the Rules
        Therefore

    3. And the point in posting this information is exactly what, Billy?

Is it provided to support the position taken by the present Government?

Is it provided to argue that majority opinion at any one time on any issue should be the sole deciding factor in determining policy?

Is it provided to claim that the opinions contained are informed opinions based on objective assessment rather than an emotional response to a dog whistle based on limited single sided propaganda level information?

Opinions are like arseholes, Billy, everyone’s got one. Even arseholes.

    1. ✳️🛡️✳️🛡️✳️🛡️✳️🛡️✳️🛡️✳️
Thanks for that exquisitely neat conclusion coined by Elliott.

AFTER the parasitised Labour stinking pile of embers is swept away, a NEW party must be BUILT QUICKLY, to GOVERN rather than be a group of “nuisances” nor “campaigners” nor “movements” nor “talking shops” nor “broad churches” nor anything, ANYTHING with ANYONE who even suggests that “we should just talk amongst ourselves.” That is an absolutely disgraceful and suggestion to those who want to bring about meaningful change.

Pleading and protesting for others to do what we can and should do ourselves should be DUMPED for good.

The AIMS of SIR Starmer & what Thatcher called its best creation or greatest achievement i.e. Iraqi blood and death soaked Blair creature, are NOT our aims. They never were. They never will be.

They are NEITHER stupid nor incompetent, nor “lack acumen” etc, or what exactly does that make us???

Rather they always have been, and continue to be what they are or CHOOSE.

Until we accept that basic FULLY, the sordid status quo will persist.

      STRAIGHTFORWARD. OBVIOUS.

  4. I see abbot wasn’t at the vote, but what’s
the reason why Ian lavery isn’t on that list?

I’d have expected to see it ahead of the likes of mcdonnell’s.

  5. Toerags you can’t believe a labour person would allow it but stammer is a toerag in a redtie

  6. If the seven suspended Labour MPs don’t show some political courage, and establish an “Independent Labour Party” block in Parliament, then they will
be capitulating to the ultimately self-destructive path that Starmer’s leadership is on, as the history of previous Labour governments shows.
Just look at what happened, over time, to the Wilson, Wilson/Callaghan, and Blair governments ( and the end of the Attlee government wasn’t without issues either).
The sand that this government’s huge majority is built on, and the emergence of the Green/Reform/Independents should be a warning. It’s possible that the process of real, necessary change, has now begun.

  7. Sultana was on BBC news just before. She was asked if she knew she’d be suspended if she ‘rebelled’ , and replied she wasn’t told.

So it can’t even have been a three-line whip. Not the first time keef has played this shithouse trick, nor will it be the last.

    But green paper

  8. And burnham can GTF, too.

“They’ve only had three weeks, gotta give them time”

The billionaires have had FOURTEEN FUCKING YEARS of exponential wealth increase. About time you and your shower o’ shite grew a set of bollocks and started reclaiming their unearned & ill-gotten, back.

  9. Then there’s the other ratbastard, milburn.

‘Send the sick out to work’

Makes dummkopf-schmitt look like a sister of mercy ffs.

Fucker wouldn’t know a day’s graft if it bit him on the arse. Another parasitical NHS carpetbagger. Probably has his fingers in the pie of some atos style racketeers hoping for a slice.

God stiffen the bastard. Then send him out on the hold for his dole.

    1. To add to the perspective of this largess – particularly in the context of the expected announcement next week by Reeves of a £20 billion budget black hole* – the Office for Students, the government agency responsible for such matters, reports that around 40 of the UK’s 120 or so universities are at present in deficit.

      As Richard Murphy notes here:

      https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/07/26/do-we-want-the-uks-universities-to-go-bust/

“seventy of those universities are at present sacking staff, or are looking at closing courses, or cutting or even shutting down whole faculties.

Now, this is big. Why is it big? Because there are around 2 million or so students at universities in the UK, and there may be more than 200,000 people working at the UK’s universities….

….this is a serious part of the UK’s economy, which looks to be in a very vulnerable state.

And that part of the economy has also been exceptionally important for the UK’s foreign earnings. And we need those foreign earnings because, as most people know (at least those of us paying attention), we import more goods than we export, and so it is things like earnings from the universities sector that help make up the difference.

And if the UK does potentially leave some universities bust, the impact is going to be very dramatic too on the local economies involved….

……And yet the new Labour Education Secretary, Bridget Philipson, has already said that she might let universities fail. It’s up to them to sort out their finance, she says.”

      ———————————————————————-

The price of the already made commitment of sticking to the Philistine Tory “Fiscal Rules” is going to be punitive for the majority in this Country, who will continue to subsidise the Oligarch class courtesy of their paid marionettes across the UK political class.

      * £2 billion or so could be saved overnight by scrapping the ludicrous and wasteful commitment to handing over limited resources to a bunch of neo-Nazi criminal grifters in order to ferment unwinnable forever wars to steal other people’s resources.

Then we could recoup some of those billions of pounds in largess we hand out in benefits to subsidise private corporations who are supposed to be able to stand on their own two feet without the need for public subsidy.

Followed by a repeal of the 2011 Sovereign Grant Act to recover some of our money wasted on the parasitic monarchy who, under this Act, do not pay a range of taxes everyone else has to pay.

  10. If your self employed and working every hour to build your business and you hit a temporary brick wall you get zero support to keep going
If your a third rate politician, public schoolboy or member of the Royal family your never off the tit
The safety net is the bare minimum needed to keep going, in 27 years in the Free Advice Sector, fraud in the system is statistically insignificant, spongers are much higher up the food chain and its in the gazillions
Which I wouldn’t mind if they spent their ill gotten gains, instead of hoarding it or creating asset bubbles
A penny to those least well off is worth a pound in the community, a pound to the 1% is worth sfa to humanity

  11. “The Institute for Fiscal Studies think tank, external has estimated that removing the two-child benefit cap would eventually cost the government £3.4bn a year, roughly 3% of the total budget for working-age benefits.”

    BBC News website.

“Prime Minister Keir Starmer recommits to £3 billion a year of military support for Ukraine until 2030/31 and for as long as needed”

    U K Government website

    Go figure!

  12. You don’t need a first class honours degree in the bleedin obvious to do a Cost Benefit Analyses on removing the 2 child limit and why are we forgetting the Bedroom tax
The cost to the country of starving and freezing people to death, far outweighs any savings
You cannot give less than the basic amount needed to live

    1. Doug, the mistake some persist in making, is believing they don’t know what you state. They do. They dont care about the poor nor about us. Amongst the vast easily seen evidence is the EASE with which Starmer’s gang will find £BILLIONS to benefit the ONE PERCENT. Eg. HUGE contracts will be handed out to private companies and chums, with protection for them when they fail, eg the Japanese company behind Horizon… name slips. The contracts will NOT protect the public purse. £Forty… fifty MILLIONS will be handed to for eg the Royal parasites to do less and less, despite them not needing help.

It needs repeating: They are NOT stupid, nor afraid of the MSM etc etc etc. They make choices just as we can also. Their choices are DIAMETRICALLY opposed to ours.

Their CHOICES are incompatible with ours. Tragically, it seems some will never accept that.

  13. The stark reality of what this means for real lives is detailed here:

    https://www.jrf.org.uk/uk-poverty-2024-the-essential-guide-to-understanding-poverty-in-the-uk

“Poverty has increased, close to pre-pandemic levels

More than 1 in 5 people in the UK (22%) were in poverty in 2021/22 – 14.4 million people. This included:

    8.1 million (or around 2 in 10) working-age adults
4.2 million (or nearly 3 in 10) children
    2.1 million (or around 1 in 6) pensioners. ”

Meanwhile, people I know who are in the know locally tell me that around 100 children at a local primary school not that far from where I am are arriving at school first thing in the morning hungry. Having had no breakfast (approx one third of the school). And this is in a reasonably affluent area.

Our newly minted “Labour”, MP Maria Tidball, voted against the SNP amendment. As did other Sheffield MP’s like the self-styled ‘left-winger’ Olivia Blake at Hallam, Louise Haigh, and Clive Betts.

Large numbers of children are going to school hungry in the constituency of these grifters who are voting for them to continue to go hungry.

Clearly these parasites pretending to be Labour MP’s believe that, like Madeline Albright, the number of suffering children are “a price worth paying” to keep fellow parasites like themselves in ever-increasing wealth and luxury. And doubtless they are well paid to push these onerous policies.

Hardly surprising when they have no problem supporting genocide, murder and torture of whole populations.

And half-wit worm tongue sycophants like steveH/Billy no mates on this site feign surprise over unfolding events like this which people have been telling him for the past several years will be the result of a Government led by a fifth columnist WEF globalist stooge, failed DPP and former Trilateral commission member.

It’s true what they say; you just cannot educate pork.

    1. Dave – “Meanwhile, people I know who are in the know locally tell me that around 100 children at a local primary school not that far from where I am are arriving at school first thing in the morning hungry. Having had no breakfast (approx one third of the school). And this is in a reasonably affluent area.”

Hence the government’s plan to introduce ‘Breakfast Clubs’ where parents will be able to drop off their children on their way to work safe in the knowledge that their children will be well cared for and given a nutritious breakfast.🤔
