California-based Teamsters member Jesse Moreno explains why he and his colleagues are on strike, how their community is rallying behind them – and what Amazon workers need as international strike and protests are called around retailer’s ‘Black Friday’ event

As Skwawkbox revealed earlier today, the Make Amazon Pay (MAP) campaign has announced international strike action to coincide with Amazon’s ‘Black Friday’ sales event to increase pressure on the hugely-profitable company to treat workers fairly and to work with, instead of against, unions.
Teamsters union member Jesse Moreno, who is at the MAP event in Manchester this weekend, is – along with hundreds of fellow Amazon drivers – on the 126th day of their strike against Amazon in California after the company ended their contracts as soon as they unionised. He told Skwawkbox why, and how those who want workers to be valued and treated properly can support them:
Solidarity with Amazon workers and all workers fighting for fair pay and union recognition.

Ordinarily, I’d support Amazon drivers every much as those in the warehouse/sorting depots.
But round here they are beyond f***ing useless and a realdanger to other road users as, well as pedestrians.
They park their visibly damaged (I wonder why) vans right on the corners of junctions, on the middle of roads (regardless of how busy they are) on narrow pavements, on double yellows, in disabled bays and at angles that are frankly damn near ninety f***ing degrees to the kerb.
Now I appreciate they’re under time pressure but that’s NO excuse WHATSOEVER for putting others at risk of losing life or limb ffs.
Both myself, me dad and other family members have been placed at extremely serious risk by these utterly careless twunts.
And in the majority of occasions it’s been to save a few yards where they could’ve parked safely, or where they might have had to manoeuvre into a spec
And by the way, that applies to just about all these courier (van) drivers these days, but more often than not its amazon drivers. The couriers who use their own cars are better – but not all, and a fair few of them not by a great deal.
I guess better conditions just might put a stop to their CGAF attitude to everyone else; I’d certainly hope so. Can’t say it would, though.
Rant over.

BTW – are any of those ‘400 parliamentarians’ UK Labour party MPs or lords, I wonder? Not heard anything.
Apologies in advance for going off topic but this really needs saying and it really needs addressing pronto by the site admin:
We have without doubt the gravest crisis taking place since World War 2 erupted with article after article on this site covering it (six of the last eight articles). Problem is there is nowhere in any of those six articles to discuss the specific contents or the wider issues as comments – a useful forum to share links etc – are not enabled.
The Amazon workers situation deserves to be discussed in its own articles rather than getting subsumed in the wider unfolding catastrophe because no other space is being provided here to debate and discuss it. That can only occur is that space is provided on the other thread articles.
Make it so please.
Hope they win, good luck to them.
