Twitter deletes video of Roger Waters refuting his critics smears

Leaked emails have also shown social media platform apparently collaborating with US and Ukrainian intelligence services against critics of war

Twitter has deleted a Double Down News (DDN) video of renowned musician Roger Waters refuting his critics’ coordinated attempts to smear him and his show as antisemitic because of his solidarity with oppressed Palestinians, support for the ‘BDS’ campaign against illegal Israeli settlements and opposition to Israeli apartheid, smears that have involved outright lies as well as intentional misrepresentation, all amplified by the Establishment media despite being thoroughly discredited.

DDN tweeted the news, addressing Twitter and its owner Elon Musk directly:

The troubling news comes just a couple of days after Grayzone investigative journalist Aaron Maté revealed leaked emails showing Twitter apparently cooperating with the FBI and the Ukrainian SBU last year. Maté showed the FBI, on behalf of the SBU, not only requesting the removal of accounts it didn’t like, but also asking for the personal information of the people running the accounts, a deeply sinister request given the known ‘kill lists’ of critical journalists circulated by Ukrainian forces:

While Twitter, to its credit, refused the request to target journalists, a note from the SBU thanked the social media platform for ‘the existing level of interaction’:

Worryingly, such targeting and snooping is carried out by political parties, not just state actors. The Labour right has for years unlawfully ‘scraped’ and used ‘backdoor access‘ to monitor party members’ social media to find information with which to attack them – Keir Starmer even employed an Israeli ‘agent’cyber-spy’ specialising in such online monitoring – in breach of UK data law.

Update 11 June: Twitter has eventually reinstated the video, perhaps as a result of outrage at its removal.
