Shearer, Wright and Jenas shame Starmer by refusing to appear on MotD after Lineker removed for comparing Tories to 1930s fascists – and commenters shred BBC and Tories for further fascism
Yesterday – and it would be near-impossible to argue they hadn’t been told to – a string of Labour MPs attacked Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker for comparing the Tories’ anti-foreigner incitement to the fascist propaganda of the 1930s, which of course is entirely justified.
The BBC then removed Lineker from the programme as it kowtowed to manufactured Tory outrage, claiming Lineker had showed a lack of impartiality, even though he holds no political role at the broadcaster.
In a screeching u-turn, Labour then briefed Sky political journalist Beth Rigby with a comment supporting Lineker, after spending all the preceding day attacking him. Blairite drone Alastair Campbell – notorious for an antisemitic campaign against a Jewish Tory leader, orchestrating a racist campaign with the S*n attacking asylum seekers and (along with fellow Blairite ghoul Peter Mandelson) deciding Labour could discriminate against Pakistanis because it might appeal to voters – joined in too.
What drove the u-turn? Well, in the interim, fellow presenters had shown exemplary solidarity with Lineker, informing the BBC that they would not be participating in the show:

Meanwhile, commenters were pointing out that, in removing someone for comparing them to 1930s fascists, the Tories and the BBC they’ve infested were behaving exactly like, well, 1930s fascists:
Others pointed out that the BBC, run by a Tory supporter who made huge donations to the party and arranged a loan for Boris Johnson, who appointed him to the role, is having a laugh disciplining a football presenter for not being impartial.
And so many said they would consider any presenter a scab who stepped forward to fill the gap left in the programme that the word ‘scab’ trended high on Twitter – and the BBC ultimately said it would run the programme as highlights only, without the usual punditry.
Presumably shamed into it and realising that attacking a popular football figure was unlikely to play well, Labour then briefed Rigby attacking the Tories for attacking Lineker – omitting, of course, to mention that they had spent the day before attacking Lineker too.
Starmer’s Labour: shameless hypocrites – and not even competent at it.

To be honest, I won’t miss them adding their twopence worth anyway.
On the seldom occasions I actually watch the show I find them to be tedious at best, infuriating at worst. And especially that danny murphy makes me lose the will to live ALL the time.
As for Ian Wright…complaining that his lad was being mugged off when he was “only” on £70 a week 😒
…And WHY does it need 3 people to discuss a match on mot’d? There’s 3 of them on football focus, and 3 on final score… Usually different for each show all on the same day. Then there’sotd 2 on Sundays; 3 on there for two or three matches…WHY?
Why not just one on each show?
I still remember the justifiable hoo-hah ove there been spending £30k just shuttling jocky hansen (bloody cheat) to London & back up to Formby every week.
Nowadays they’re paying that per show to have two bores drone on and on and spin about how great the so-called big 6 are.
Personally, ICG less of AF if they stuck to the format that tonight’s show brings.
But then again, the money saved wouldn’t be passed on to reduce the TV licence tax; it’d just go towards more former toerags’ expenses. Such is the profligacy of that nonce-infested organisation.

I quite agree. Some of us find the post-match jerking off about tactics a bore. I’m looking forward to a shorter, leaner, all-action show tonight. If it works out, it could set a precedent for a CHEAPER show in future, too!

Haven’t watched MOTD or Football Focus in an age. Come to think of it the BBC either. Angers me no end having to pay for crap I don’t watch.
Gary Lineker, ex-footballer and crisp salesman is paid (I almost wrote earned) £1.35m p.a. by BBC, promoting a ‘shop window’ for Sky Sports in an elite league that provides business opportunities for international oligarchs, while claiming to be ‘a voice for those who don’t have a voice’. Many poor families can no longer afford to watch Premiership Football as fans are exploited to maximise profits. Lineker and chums care as much about being a voice for those without a voice about as much as Rupert Murdoch.
