Video: Blair’s former Home Secretary says no one should protest against monarchy

Keep quiet until after funeral, says Jack Straw as he tries to justify arrests of protesters exercising right to freedom of speech

Many people in this country have rightly reacted with outrage at the sight of police arresting people for exercising their freedom of speech about the monarchy – and in at least one case for standing up for children against a royal predator – this week.

‘These people’ should shut up and keep their opinions to themselves until the funeral – and the police are right to take action against them, Blairite former Home Secretary Jack Straw has told Sky News:

Straw is no stranger to attacks on free speech, of course, having infamously blethered on in his speech as aged Holocaust survivor Walter Wolfgang was forcibly thrown out of Labour’s conference.

Meanwhile, hospital appointments and the funerals of other people are being cancelled because the queen is being buried next Monday – and at least one foodbank was going to close until the backlash forced a u-turn.

The UK is a fundamentally sick nation.
