Breaking: left wins conference committee and Young Labour elections

The left has won a near-clean sweep in important internal Labour elections today, demonstrating that in spite of mass member resignations the left still holds considerable power among the membership.

Seema Chandwani and Billy Hayes won the vital Conference Arrangements Committee (CAC) elections to retain their seats on the body that plays a key role in deciding the agenda for the party’s annual conference, while the left slate won three out of four elected Young Labour positions.

Despite a year and a half of right-wing manoeuvres and gerrymandering, today’s result will worry Starmer and co that their attempts to control the make-up of conference delegates may not have succeeded.
