BBC deletes Sunak-as-Superman video that led to comparisons with North Korean state propaganda

Broadcaster with supposed commitment to impartiality published video showing Tory Chancellor as superhero ‘on a mission to save the economy’ – but quickly deleted it

The BBC has hurriedly deleted a video that it published portraying Tory Chancellor Rishi Sunak as a superhero ‘on a mission to save the economy’.

The video showed Sunak flying about the country in a Superman-style outfit:

But when its toadying content led to widespread comparisons with North Korean state propaganda, the BBC panicked and deleted both a tweet and an article on its website containing the embarrassing nonsense:

But the excruciating video was saved for posterity – including the sadly unsurprising crassness of Sunak literally handing cash to a line of unemployed people:

The BBC has previously been exposed doctoring a video of Boris Johnson to remove adverse audience reactions – and was rightly criticised today for the contrast in its treatment of former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and its anything-but-impartial coverage of the Tories:

Sunak has taken the credit for coronavirus measures to which he had to be dragged kicking and screaming. The UK’s ‘furlough’ programme was only created after intense pressure from Unite and other unions forced the Tory Chancellor to u-turn on his plan to hand huge cash bail-outs to large corporations. Unsurprisingly, this was not reported by the BBC or other so-called ‘mainstream’ media.

If democracy depends on a functioning mainstream media holding the government to account, we are living in a post-democratic country.

  1. Laughable, embarrassing, yes, but the sinister RW agenda of the BBC is there for all to see. It’s no surprise of course, and has been going on quite openly for years, but with at least a pretence of impartiality. But when even the pretence all but disappears, and we see the State Media openly promoting a corrupt fascist would be dictator and his chums, we really do need to worry. Only thank god that we have Keir, the hammer of the right . . .
(Where are all the emojis when you need one?)

      1. Right-click on my link, select “open link in new tab” – on the website click on the bunny, click on the top hat and a panel opens at the bottom of the page. click on “copy.”
Place cursor where you want the emojis in the text, right click and select “paste.”
You might only see a tiny rectangle instead of a true representation of the emoji until your comment is posted.
I use Windows 7. I believe Windows 10 has native emojis. Most people won’t need the link.
Enjoy, but please don’t throw them around like confetti at a wedding – like a certain ‘windbag’ used to do 🤬

  2. It’s a tricky situation when you’ve been told by Cummings that if you don’t behave all decisions on programming will be moved to the cabinet office

  3. We will always be a post democratic country until we are post-FPTP.

FPTP gives us never-ending, BBC-facilitated centrism.

  4. This was how @BBCNewsGraphics chose to announce itself in Dec 2017. Notice how Corbyn’s PMQ’s on “business” have been shown as too few to fit the text inside the body of the graphic. That wasn’t an accident – economy, Brexit, home affairs, tax avoidance – all are relevant to business.
Not that they’d ever push the Tory agenda of course…

  5. Which news show was this effort made for – John Craven’s fucking Newsround?!

  6. So James Murdoch doesn’t share his father’s conservative views, eh?
Is resigning from NewsCorp the full extent of his moral conversion or is he going to do something worthwhile with his insider knowledge – like blowing the gaff on the scale of his father’s and the rest of the MSM’s anti-left propaganda?
He has after all been an enemy of the people his whole life until today.
If he goes on to expose MSM bias and dirty tricks – and puts the evidence of his father’s and the other press barons’ crimes against democracy online – I’ll buy him a drink.
If on the other hand he’s just anticipating the rise of the angry mob and trying to save his own arse…

    1. I am sure the falling out will be over power and the filthy luka.Maybe young piggy cant dig his nose in the trough as deep has daddy pig…..Follow the money 💰 principle and morality are an unknown concept in the world of piggery.

” With apologies for the length of this comment, but I used to write for the BBC and have a lingering fondness for the place, which is one of the reasons I’ve been paying very close attention to what’s been happening behind the scenes.

A number of changes made during the last seven years or so, spearheaded by David Cameron, have led to the corporation’s news and politics departments becoming little more than ventriloquists’ dummies. Of particular note are the following:

    a) important posts at the BBC being filled by pro-government figures from the private sector (Rona Fairhead, David Clementi, James Harding, Robbie Gibb etc)

    b) direct links with the manipulative tabloid press being strengthened by Downing Street giving important positions to dubious characters like Andy Coulson and Craig Oliver

    c) the subsequent recruitment of people like Alison Fuller Pedley (of Mentorn Media), who is responsible for choosing who gets to be in the Question Time audience, and Sarah Sands (formerly of the Telegraph, Mail and Evening Standard) who now edits Radio 4’s Today programme

    d) all of the above follows Cameron’s appointment, in June 2010, of John Browne (Baron Browne of Madingley) to the post of ‘Lead Non-Executive Director for Downing Street, his role being that of recruiting business leaders to reformed departmental boards’ – Browne’s questionable history at BP notwithstanding (remember Deep Horizon!)

    e) how all of this quiet, underhand activity has been largely unreported, but has given the current Conservative government immense power within fashionable and influential circles.

This means they can not only dictate what information is made available to the public, but also the manner in which it is presented. You don’t need to read many pages of that book by George Orwell to grasp how easy it is to control the popular once you have control of the means of communication.”

    1. Very interesting. I recently met a young woman who used to work in the Radio 4 newsroom, and she told me she was initially shocked by the wall to wall Tory support, and the flip side hatred and disparagement of all things left.

      1. Obvious as shit on a shoe to readers here but the apolitical majority would have no idea of the influence exerted on their minds by the establishment through the upper echelons of the BBC.

I’ve said it before and I’m going to keep on saying it – if we want to force the MSM to report honestly, jail for those who subvert democracy is the only conceivable incentive.
Announcing that the first thing we’ll do on winning a GE is enact ex post facto legislation to jail them for their past lies will have them up in arms – in ‘challenging’ our evidence their lies will necessarily multiply until they stretch the credibility of even the stupidest viewer to breaking point.
Name the lies, name the liars and repudiate Starmer’s snivelling obeisance to false gods.

Of course there are risks – but if there’s another way to break the stranglehold of the media barons on the electorate I’m all ears.
There are risks for the barons too, but they don’t yet see them.
We’ve lost too many elections because of their lies and when people have nothing left to lose they become dangerous – and the rich die badly in revolutions.

      2. Sounds good to me David. I was just having a conversation with a good friend and pointing out to him that I have not heard anyone at all (ANYONE) either in the media or politics, face off Hancock and accuse him of the most outrageous lie of all, that he threw a protective ring around care homes. Cummings knows that their lies won’t be challenged. In former times Labour might have done so, but certainly not now. On Today the other day Nick Robinson ever so gently asked Hancock if he thought that the protective ring boast might not have been a very ‘good idea…’ Pathetic.
Incidentally, for my own personal therapy (ie to stop me exploding) I have a blog which nobody reads but hey ho, I have my say. It’s: https://lovesexwomenmenpoliticspoetrylifedeath.wordpress.com/

    1. Helsbells…iT’s worth repeating, then people will realise you cannot reform a disease like the BBC only disband the mouthpiece of the establishment.

  9. The biggest laugh was when the Beeb actually erected a statue of George Orwell outside of their London HQ. As if in some way Orwell’s reflected glory would add legitimacy to their own very shoddy broadcasting and journalistic standards. Worse they clearly hoped to make Orwell a BBC establishment man when it’s obvious that especially today he would have recoiled at the very thought.

Orwell had only worked for the BBC Eastern Service between 1941 to 1943 making war time propaganda programmes for India which even he recognised few Indians listened to. His work at the BBC is said however to have increased his interest in how the totalitarian state makes use of propaganda which of course was a central theme in Nineteen Eighty Four

  10. F***ing hell….No, seriously, that’s gone beyond Arslikhan I’m just as shocked that @ 1:05 on that film, the ‘dole queue’ weren’t giving him a handjob for their ‘handouts’.

‘Super sunak’… Seen the state of the skeletal bastard ffs? Needs a few pans of scouse down him. Seen more meat on a Good Friday in the Vatican.

Utterly contemptible. Spend your licence fee on something else instead.

  11. Fucking Tory imbeciles.
    Announced by BBC today:
“Indoor venues such as casino, ice rinks and bowling alleys, which were due to reopen, will remain closed.
Live indoor theatre and concerts, which were due to resume with socially distanced audiences, will not take place.
Pilot sporting events allowing limited numbers of spectators at Goodwood, the Crucible and The Oval, will not go ahead.
Wedding receptions with up to 30 guests cannot yet happen”

Venue categories that have been closed until today were self-evidently NOT the cause of any rise in CV cases.
Opening pubs and not insisting on masks everywhere in public WAS the cause.
    Note: NOT ‘face coverings’, MASKS.
The only reason there’s no evidence for my assertions is that the Tories were too stupid to have enough masks manufactured and too stupid to gather the right kind of evidence.
