At least ten closures scheduled during expected crisis period
A Tory programme of closures of hospitals and walk-in centres is proceeding amid the coronavirus pandemic. The following facilities are affected:
- Orsett Hospital
- Shipley Hospital
- Eastbourne Walk-In Centre
- Poole A&E
- Sittingbourne Dementia Unit
- Angel Medical Centre
- Cricklewood Walk-In
- Soho Walk-In
- Swindon Walk-In
The closures are scheduled to take place within the 12-18 month window predicted for the coronavirus crisis. At the same time, the Tories have announced emergency measures to free up NHS beds, because they acknowledge there will be shortages at the peak of the pandemic.
The Conservatives have already closed more than 17,000 beds – 6.2 million annual bed days – since 2010, fuelling the NHS crisis that has become a constant feature of the UK’s health service.
