Owen Smith in Liverpool during the 2016 leadership contest

Owen Smith, who unsuccessfully challenged Jeremy Corbyn for the Labour leadership in 2016, is to step down at the next election.

Smith’s resignation letter states that he is resigning for personal reasons and will not stand for re-election:

The MP, whose campaign notably included an attempt to attract members to his rally in Liverpool by offering free ice creams, has tweeted the news.

    1. Which indicates Big Pharma are betting on a Labour government or
Take it at face value and crack open a bottle of something

  1. Shame he couldn’t have taken nandy and Kinnock with him,..that would have dealt with the low grade sh55t stirrers…still good news on top of a much needed GE victory.!

    1. You beat me to it with your comment Joseph . For the life of me I will never understand why, when it was obvious Owen Smith could not possibly win , he and Lisa Nandy his campaign manager ploughed on regardless pursuing what one Labour front bencher ( can’t remember who) referred to as a scorched earth policy i.e. inflicting as much damage as they could on the party and the leader in the time available. I am glad Owen Smith is going and like you I wish Lisa Nandy would go with him.
Stephen Kinnock is an idiot but I will say one thing for him He really has a thick skin. If I had been shown up like he was in the TV programme “The Summer that changed everything” I’d never have been able to show my face again but not him . He just brazened it out. However unfortunately for him he lost all credibility and if re elected will have to remain on the back benches until he grows up .

      1. Smartboy…The entitled never grow up and his father and mother Kinnock have lived very well off the European dream ticket.Neil Kinnock especially has moved away from his Welsh valley heritage just as fast as his piggy leggs to the trough can take him.The kinnocks many years ago had real potential but like the majority of mps the high life of London swallowed the whole family in greed…shame really.!

      2. Agree Joseph. I never could abide Kinnock Snr anyway after he sold out the miners. Unforgivable.

As for the pederast enabler hodge – armour plated when it comes to her allowing children to be sexually abused, but just happen to mention anything about jews or zionism…

  2. “…for personal AND POLITICAL reasons” ? So which party shall we see u pop up in, Owen? Also, will u b doing more work 4 Pfizer?

    1. I always thought that with owens massive negotiating skills and sheer leadership Qualitys that the NIrish job could have destroyed the whole peace process in 24 hrs.Luckily nobody of any importance could take him seriously. …although he did once speak to an aliance party member in the toilets….strictly hush hush?

  3. Don’t be too worried for Owen, he always told us he was a winner! It’s about power Jeremy, power.

  4. Grenfell Tower
Firemen and women heroes to their toes
Grenfell broke all the rules and we know why
Any less than those responsible going to gaol will be considered a whitewash

    1. Said it before, and I’ll say it again:

      ‘Shit rolls downhill’

There is NO WAY the likes of paget brown and fielding-mellen – or just about anyone at KCBC with as many names and as much moolah as the heir to the throne and the current PM combined – are gonna do ANY budgie for their part.

In the extremely unlikely even they are charged with anything; and the even unliklier event actually convicted – they’ll get 2 weeks in an open nick – and even that’ll be suspended for 12 months.

      .

  5. I have just picked my nose and said: ‘meh’.

That’s the best smith could’ve hoped for, in all honesty.

  6. Well fancy that, he’s gone – Smith won’t be missed that’s for sure in South Wales, just a shame Bryant and Co. don’t follow suit.

  7. Great news, by the guy that will only be remembered as a loser, who tried to bribe people to attend his speech with free ice cream.

    Au revoir, Mr Whippy.
