Two branches voting: one to trigger, one to retain but result already decisive
As the SKWAWKBOX reported earlier this week, Ealing Southall Labour members had already voted to ‘trigger’ Virendra Sharma, forcing the MP to face a full selection contest, with four branches voting for the selection – and Labour rules requiring only three of the constituency’s seven branches.
The final two branches voted this evening. Lady Margaret branch voted by 34-33 to retain Sharma – with two votes spoiled – while Southall Green voted by 40-31 to trigger. Southall Green is the branch of right-winger Peter Mason, who earlier this year had tried to prevent a no-confidence vote in Sharma by claiming it would be bad for unity.
As the incumbent, Sharma will automatically be included on the shortlist of candidates for the contest as the incumbent.

It will be interesting to see how close the result of the actual OMOV ballot turns out to be.
Small potatoes this , more concerning are those MPs like Onn and Chapman etc who are going to vote as Torys with the Torys ,,, these are the ones who should be Triggered

Yes, apologies for not linking.
It’s useful to have the British Election Study data on this. It settles the argument as conclusively as anything can – with a sample of 30,000+.
Of course, it can’t settle either of the questions of (a) principle or (b) tactics, but it does kick the props from under the feet of Tory-voting MPs who claim to be representing their supporters.
They aren’t.
I’m no fan of polls, but this new survey seems to me to be well designed, aptly focused and convincing.
And RH offers a measured and fair conclusion.
