Protest votes could gift EU commission presidency to hard right and damage climate-change efforts

Protest votes on either side of Brexit divide pose danger across Europe

A Germany-based Briton has warned that protest votes in today’s European Parliament elections could result in a hard-right politician taking the presidency of the European Commission.

Former Momentum staffer Steve Hudson’s Twitter thread this morning lays out the risk:

Weber’s politics include positions that will outrage British people across a wide spectrum. His commitment to ‘ever-closer integration’ within the EU will be an affront to Brexit supporters – yet ironically, support for Farage’s Brexit party will strengthen Weber’s prospects.

Manfred Weber

Weber also has a history of support for the racist and misogynist Hungarian PM Viktor Orban and has voted against EU measures to outlaw ‘gay conversion therapies’. Weber’s closeness to the motor industry bodes ill for attempts to limit and reverse climate change.

SKWAWKBOX view:

Hudson is right – and not just concerning the EU elections. Politics is literally a matter of life and death, as well as quality of life, for millions – and there is no room for ‘self-indulgent gesture politics’ or narrow obsessions.

Vote Labour – today and in every election.

    1. If people like you and the liberal media hadn’t bullshitted the public, on blogs, comment boards, social media etc across the country, day after day for 3 years solid, there might not have been a protest vote. Most voters would likely have not bothered to vote at all, like they normally do in EU elections.
I couldn’t bring myself to vote for Farage, but I’m sure as hell not going to vote for some “centrist” scrounger standing under the guise of Labour. There are no Socialists in this group of nonentities, it’s all about £8 grand a month plus expenses and pension for a non legislative body.

      1. Well thanks for your bluster – I never envisaged that my posts on this blog had so much influence.

Perhaps you could explain why your abstention is any different from pre-Corbyn Labour MPs abstaining on legislation affecting Welfare.

There’s still time for you to get off your bum and register your vote for socialist solidarity across the EU.

      2. “Socialist solidarity”….. Like what the middle class did to the working class over Brexit? Namely sneer, claim we didn’t know what we were voting for, call us racists, claim we were fooled by Farage and Johnson for a Tory Brexit, expect us to give a shit because your second home in France might not have an airport next door in the future and snigger over us all ” drinking at Wetherspoons”.
I see no solidarity or even a hint of compromise, you brought this upon yourselves.

[You] expect us to give a shit because your second home in France.

My second home is in the Caribbean so is unlikely to be affected much by the availability of flights to the EU from the UK. However my friends and neighbours out there are very concerned about the impact that the UK leaving the EU will have on their exports to the EU.

      4. Well thanks for your bluster – I never envisaged that my posts on this blog had so much influence.

        ‘influence’?

Another one deluding themselves with visions of self-grandeur.

…Try ‘ersatz comedy value’ or, better still: ‘utter codswallop’

      5. ” Like what the middle class did to the working class over Brexit?”

Oh Christ! If you want to read mythology – Homer and a few others were better at it. What a load of fictional toss is this classist nonsense – the self-pleasuring of the joke ‘left’. It’s Bullingdon Club bullshit with brainless word substitutionas a pretence to radicalism – not politics, or analysis

    2. ME take note? Risible and nonsensical and very much failed attempt to put me on a guilt trip. Never gonna work but I suppose you thought it was worth a shot, eh?

      Wrong.

My conscience is squeeky clean, plums. And I don’t give a fook what happens there once we’re gone. Just like you didn’t give a fook about our views when we warned you about this. You’ve also been told it’ll happen here if you carry on – but carry on you will…

You and your load of (now) handwringing & self-serving do-gooders have been warned time & again. Now it’s right upon you and you’re trying to palm the blame off onto the likes of me?

Entirely expected. There’s no depths you and the rest of the shithouses will plumb.

Not one of them get my vote. I could do the same job as they’ll slither into for a quarter the moolah AND the people would get inifinitely more bang for their buck because I’d turn up to every jolly and claim full expenses – every cent of which would be donated to foodbanks and local nhs-related charities.

      1. The Toffee (597) at 5:56 pm

So how did you vote to register your opposition to the Fascist and Racist pro Brexit parties, by sitting on your butt.

I find it odd that you choose to ignore Jeremy Corbyn’s speech in Liverpool on Sunday, I guess you must think you know better.

      2. ”So how did you vote to register your opposition to the Fascist and Racist pro Brexit parties, by sitting on your butt.”

        How do you think, ffs?

I didn’t vote – I warned you what’ll happen, you chose to wilfully ignore.

I sat here and typed a multitude of warnings about the rise of right wing extremists – which just happened to ‘coincide’ with your persistent self-centred bleatings over brexit; but you kept your fingers in your ears, didn’t you?

Had you listened, today’s vote wouldn’t have even taken place.

Now it’s finally dawned on you that we were right and immediately after the penny dropped (too late) you’re desperate to try to absolve yourself/selves.

Well, unlucky. We’ll ALL have to reap what YOU have sown.

        Well played.

      3. Yet ANOTHER fail.

Careful that vessel you’re in doesn’t implode under the extreme pressure it must be under at that depth….

      4. “How do you think, ffs?

        I didn’t vote”

‘Nuff said. Irrelevance noted. Case closed.

  1. SKWAWKBOX
    It’s not too late.
Perhaps a positive article on Frans Timmermans the Party of European Socialist’s candidate for the President of the EU Commission and the PES manifesto would be appropriate.

  2. Yes, skwawky, political purity is all very well but it can have unpleasant side effects.

    1. … but it’s not even ‘political purity’.

It’s fairy dust that does the damage.

A lot who put Hitler into power, or thought Mao was the best thing since sliced bread were genuine political idealists who beieved in ‘purity’ … and left behind a pile of corpses.

I – and a lot of others – prefer the messiness of impure actuality and dissension.

  3. EU citizens resident in this country appear to have been deprived of a vote by the simple expedient of not announcing our participation in the European elections until May 7 – the same day their votes were required to be cast.
Still, half of them might have voted for Farage so no harm done, eh?

  4. When was the Commission NOT under hard right, utterly hard-line neoliberal control?

All EU legislation has to come “on a proposal from the Commission”.

The deliberately-unelected, unaccountable Commission is thereby responsible for all the liberalisation directives which prevent a socialist Labour government nationalising rail, mail, gas, electricity and telecommunications, making unlawful what Labour did in the wake of the 1945 victory.

    1. Danny 23/05/2019 at 5:42 pm

So despite Jeremy Corbyn clearly stating in his speech on Sunday why the EU elections were so important and telling Labour voters to make the effort to get out and vote Labour you think you know better and have chosen to just give up.

It’s worth bearing in mind that the PES candidate for President of the EU Commission is winning the series of hustings being held at universities throughout the EU

    2. ”The deliberately-unelected, unaccountable Commission is thereby responsible for all the liberalisation directives which prevent a socialist Labour government nationalising rail, mail, gas, electricity and telecommunications, making unlawful what Labour did in the wake of the 1945 victory.”

Need I remind everybody of steve h’s preposterous claim again?

      I’m gonna anyway…

We wouldn’t have a NHS or a Welfare System if our predecessors had all been as timid as you.

You should read the Party of European Socialist’s manifesto.

      —————————————————-

      Yes – that’s right, folks.

      1. Your post is complete and utter bollocks – If you don’t like the way things are then you have a responsibility to try and change the way things are done.

I’ll give you a hint voting today for Labour will be far more effective than grumbling on here.

JC said on Sunday how important the Labour vote was to the outcome of who got appointed as EU President. I’m surprised you presume to know better.

ps: Thanks for drawing attention to my post again.

  5. ‘Your post is complete and utter bollocks’

The one about the remainers giving us the nhs & welfare state? That’s but another one of yours, lad.

    1. But that isn’t what I said, is it?

Your recollection of modern history is a little shaky the NHS was created long before we joined the EU.

The fact that you need to lie and distort in some feeble attempt at scoring some cheap and obscure political point indicates that you you really do need help

      1. ”But that isn’t what I said, is it?”

Except once again – it’s there in black & white. You tried to make out the people what gave us the NHS & welfare state would be remainers.

QED – Remainers gave us the NHS & welfare state.

…With bugger all to back your claim up. Stop squirming and just admit that’s what you tried to infer.

        ————————————————————————-

”Your recollection of modern history is a little shaky the NHS was created long before we joined the EU.”

YOU – questioning MY recollection?…Wait for it, because this is gonna show you for what you are….’Recent history’, he says! Pffft!

…here is my very next comment after your outandish fantasical NHS claim

  6. Ever noticed the pro-remain on here have made mention about their dislike of the likes of mandelson and neil kincock…?

    1. The Toffee (597) 23/05/2019 at 6:57 pm · · Reply

I don’t much care for either Mandelson or Neil Kinnock and I don’t agree with many of their policies or actions in the past.

Although I’m doubtful you have actually achieved much by valiantly extracting this ‘confession’ from me I do hope the above statement makes you a happy little bunny,

You do so obviously need cheering up.

    2. Except you’ll play the ‘guilt by association’ card quite freely yourself – and have done, on many occasions.

If this was a boxing match I’d have been arrested a long time ago, but you won’t give in so I’ll keep handing out the pummelling you deserve.

    3. I’m afraid, O Toffee, that we just don’t count constant self-righteous whinging about Mandelson, and various other irrelevancies, as serious politics.

It’s interesting how much of this blog is taken up by such pointless noise rather than any real ideas or argument.

The statement “Watson [substitute whoever is the poison of the day] is a twat” repeated innumerable times advances the Labour cause precisely zero millimetres. Rattling on with juvenile and ill-informed class-prejudiced shite just apes the Tory narrative with different words – you might just as well simply write ‘Yah-boo’.

But – at a personal level – it isn’t going to get you out from the bottom of the shit-heap. Like it or not, you’re going to need a wide-based, consensual coalition to do that. Probably within a European alliance.

      1. ”I’m afraid, O Toffee, that we just don’t count constant self-righteous whinging about Mandelson, and various other irrelevancies, as serious politics.”

Damn straight…It’s mandelson’s/kincock’s views on the eu that you’ll count as ‘serious politics’ though. And the eu is your (and their) biggest political penchant. That much is obvious

His EU leanings are completely intertwined with his outdated ‘new labour’ party ideals. Same for bliar, kincock and the rest of the slime.

If you are in agreement with the freeloading sleazebags in any way shape nor, form you are not socialist labour, as them lot make no mention of ‘the many’.

You just cannot have it both ways, I’m afraid.

      2. I’ll do you the justice of assuming you *can* read. But you choose not to, with a constant habit of allowing your own assumptions to get in front of the words on the screen.

Take for instance this fiction :

“the eu is your (and their) biggest political penchant.” – whereas the case that myself and others such as SteveH make is plain and simple – that, with all the caveats about it, we are in favour of staying in the EU because three years of evidence clearly supports the scenario that being outside it will be *far worse* and will inhibit any progressive political agenda.

It really is that simple and reserved a judgment.

As to nuliarbore and its acolytes – I was opposing its programme when it was the done thing to endorse it as an alternative electoral fairy dust. Mandelson, Kinnock, Adonis – whoever is the demon of the day – are simply not the point now whilst rying to resurrect dead pseudo-Marxist factionalism is, on the other hand is as useful as CPR on a rotting corpse when it comes to opposing the Tories.

  7. What’s gone wrong, some people are saying, while others choose to ignore all the warning signs that the liberal left is now the enemy. The middle class refuses see how it is under attack, everything will be alright as long as they can get a mortgage they think. Even now, as their children are unable to get mortgages on top of £40 grand uni debt, and another £10 for a masters (you really do buy degrees these days and a bog standard 2:1 is not enough. Meanwhile your jobs are being leeched away, look at America for your future where internal pilots earn about $18,000pa. Watch as optometrists can go up to £43,041 (band 7) with salaries for consultant optometrists rising to £85,333 (band 8c/8d) to nothing when they’re replaced by a machine learning platform that writes its own code and teachers who’re replaced by cleverer algorithms, along with train drivers. Instead of showing solidarity with the already impotent working class they prefer to put their faith in Europe, ignoring all the problems, not least of which is rule by unelected commissioners and the ECB, embrace of neoliberalism, even to the extent of writing it into law and adoption of a single currency and single exchange rate while the economies of those countries are anything but level. Anyway, I digress, what has “gone wrong” is what we are informed by our media that we grew up with. We hoped the BBC was still largely unbiased while knowing it always took the establishment line. We grew up with Jon Snow and Ch4 News if we were Labour voters. We liked the fact that it was largely centre left, same with BBC 2 and programmes like HIGNFY, comedy from Frankie Boyle, support for minority groups and interests………………..then came Trump, crooked Hilary, not so liberal Obama, Libya, Syria, reporters like Vanessa Beeley who showed us how the White Helmets were a propaganda group started by a British intelligence officer and allied to al qaeda and how NGOs and charities were linked to governments and how it took a leak from the OPCW (largely unreported) to inform us that an alleged national war-crime (the alleged Douma chemical attack in Syria) was totally staged by America’s own proxy-soldiers, Islamic terrorists who were trying to overthrow Syria’s Government, and so the attack against Syria on 14 April 2018 by U.S., UK and France, constitutes an international war-crime, an unequivocal violation of the U.N.’s Charter.
    https://off-guardian.org/2019/05/22/how-the-opcw-leak-makes-trump-a-war-criminal/

As if all that wasn’t enough, it turns out that the only British main stream media organisation to report the hugely important, devastating indictment of Britain and British foreign policy was, of all people, The Daily Mail……The paper we all love to hate. While our newspaper of choice up til about 3 years ago (The Guardian) made no mention of our, America’s and France’s involvement in global war crimes.

That’s what’s gone wrong. The pretend left has been taken over and is marketing identity politics. You have no real debate, just people like Jess Phillips screaming that if we don’t support her version of gender politics, we are fascists. The same goes for “green” activists who want to tax the poor to pay for oil companies to develop green alternatives while cars get bigger, Capitalism gets more neoliberal and cruise ships get bigger every year.

Some of you here are the fake left, you need to change now, or your children won’t survive.

    1. lundiel 23/05/2019 at 7:19 pm

Yet another reason to vote Labour in todays EU elections. It’ll be a lot easier to win a GE (if we ever secure one) on the back of success rather than failure. Everyone loves a winner and it gives our supporters a morale boost.

Please SteveH, stop asking stupid questions in a diversion attempt, I’ve “told you before, it doesn’t look good, does nothing for debate and I’ll never bother answering them.”

It’s unfortunate that you’ve had to resort to pleading because you are unable to provide any justification for your ‘assertions’. As for what does and doesn’t look good I learnt a long time to be certain of my facts and arguments, making yourself look like an ill-informed prat online is definitely a bad look. A lesson you have yet to earn.

Please come back when you have something of substance to impart.

      4. I think “this ill informed Pratt” is saddened by your condescension and sneering. You’ve never come here with “facts”, when I raise issues like fixed budgets, built in austerity, economic imbalance, neoliberalism written into law, debts that can never be paid and support for ” humanitarian intervention ” you don’t reply with “facts”, you either ignore me or claim that a collective of governments with different perspectives and politics (all of which are shades of right wing except Portugal) are stronger together. Your idea that NATO members are ever going to adopt anything other than neoliberal economics and neocon foreign policy…..and that they’re stronger together is not ” fact”, it’s opinion which comes across as self delusion.

    2. “the liberal left is now the enemy”

Well … given the lack of definition … and bland generalisations about “The pretend left has been taken over” and ‘*The* middle class’ – and a rag-bag of various devils yoked together in a fruit salad composed of amorphous bile … it’s hard to see a coherent political program arising out of this soup of bilious dissatisfaction.

    3. How did we end up like this? It was the children of people my age that allowed it to happen. They (our children) never read books about struggle, they didn’t read books at all. They had never heard
Patrice Lumumba or the mass murders of Communists and Socialists in Indonesia, they had no interest in anything other than climbing the property ladder and becoming entrepreneurs. The children of Thatcher, Blair, Cameron/Osborne/Clegg generation have bought into the American Democrats/Republican/Northern European/Five eyes/Gulf States/Israeli/NATO nightmare of managed democracy/Inverted Totalitarianism. All so they could be debt slaves.

“How did we end up like this? It was the children of people my age that allowed it to happen. They (our children) never read books about struggle, they didn’t read books at all”

Speak for yourself, my 18yr old daughter is currently reading ‘Protest and Power: The Battle For The Labour Party
by David Kogan’ and I often witness her friends and her having passionate discussions about current politics.

    4. On the cusp of the massive redundancies that you (for the first time I think) allude to, middle class WORKERS – for workers they are – will for the first time be as vulnerable as the unskilled, and probably more so.
You, NVLA, Toffee and others seem to be deliberately dividing natural allies with your insults and offensive attacks.
You accuse remainers of using the tactics you’re using but the more reasonable readers see what’s happening and won’t be divided.
I care less about Brexit than you appear to care, and it’s for the same reason I’ve been beating the drum for years about the need for us to plan our response to the coming AI/robotics revolution – which will make Brexit as trivial as a pimple next to a heart attack.

I don’t accuse but I do note that organisations like the “Integrity Initiative” are being paid to distract/divide us and sow doubt in our minds.
Some who comment here, given the methods we KNOW the establishment uses, are probably provocateurs.
They may or may not be the mouthiest fuckers here but it would make sense if dividing us was the plan.
Does anyone here doubt the Tories would pay people to divide their enemies?

      1. So you want to start over. We post a few things without incident, indulge in debate and then all of a sudden, I’m a fucker, no, a mouthy fucker?

Accuse your enemies of what you yourself are guilty of

        Sigh 🤦‍♂️🤔

      2. You, NVLA, Toffee and others seem to be deliberately dividing natural allies with your insults and offensive attacks.
You accuse remainers of using the tactics you’re using but the more reasonable readers see what’s happening and won’t be divided.

I’m under no obligation to explain meself, but I’m going to have to bat away your one-sided accusation. And it IS an accusation.

You see, I’ve already freely confessed that I’ll rise to it when the thinly veiled insults and innuendos are bandied around by the remainers. I take them personally, as they were intended to be.

And that admission seems to have spurred at least two of you lot on (With your last few comments on the matter appearing to want to make it three) to goad me at every oportunity.

Much unlike your mate dicky who writes that he believes he doesn’t instigate any animosty or ad hominems on here (Yes, he actually wrote that, and I once again can provide evidence)

I’m not having it implied I’m thick, racist, illiterate or what-have-ya, by people I can prove (And I’ve given examples on each occasion) to be talking bollocks. Nor will I allow it to transpire if I see it written to anyone else who dares oppose your view.

I will throw their words and phrases right back at them using and confronting them with their own words, demonstrating the snide underhand tactics they instigated and employed against me to get their rise so they could cry foul.

I will question their integrity using the same methods

Difference is, I’m far better at it than you lot because I’ve debated far better people.

People who actually answer the questions they were asked, instead of making up their own questions and convincing themselves I that was the question I asked.

People who will admit making outlandish weird claims when confronted with their own words in black & white.

But most of all, people who do not resort to the thinly-veiled insults and insinuations to goad the people holding the opposing view, which keeps the discussion civil.

So as for your ‘provocateurs’ theory I suggest we see how far you get when you bring to rh ‘s attention his persistent posting looking down his nose at the lower class. I needn’t post the myriad examples, but can if required.

Not that it’ll do much good because I very much doubt you’ll confront him and ask him his reasoning for doing so anyway.

        I don’t remember you doing so before…

      5. I think this sort of obsession with fantastic and imagined slights is bordering on real paranoia. You seem to be boiling over with resentment at simply being disagreed with.

        Like :

“rh ‘s… persistent posting looking down his nose at the lower class.”

Which is sheer confection. What I *do* take the piss out of is the use of the term ‘working class’ (and the corresponding negative ‘middle class’) in some kind of virtue signalling as lazy proof of authenticity by playground lefties. What I look down my nose at is this cartoon simplification of whole sections of society and the sloppiness of using social description in a meaningless way. It’s as brainless as one of the Bullingdon Club rattling on about ‘the plebs’ – just a substitution of vocabulary.

        Or :

” implied I’m thick, racist, illiterate or what-have-ya”

… and where was that? Or is it another example of what you *choose* to read into what is said.

I could go on – but you say that you have ‘the evidence’. Give us the examples of this allegedly constant personalisation that underpins your extensive use of ‘retaliatory’ insult.

  8. The whole thing is a mess, why wasn’t this thought about when they put Adonis and the other plums on the Labour list? you can put a suit on a monkey but can’t hide its tale. What does JC and Labour expect? Who thought putting that shower on the ticket was a good idea? I wouldn’t give them the steam of my pish never mind a vote ffs!

    1. ”What does JC and Labour expect? Who thought putting that shower on the ticket was a good idea? I wouldn’t give them the steam of my pish never mind a vote ffs!”

      Spot-on.

      1. The Toffee (597) 23/05/2019 at 7:57 pm

I’m guessing they wanted to present a wide range of candidates in order to appeal to as large a demographic as possible (ie: win elections). Limiting the candidates to those approved by ‘The Tooting Popular Front’ would have been counter productive.

      2. Oh, I don’t confine my distate to the labour party exclusively.

Not one of the MEP freeloaders from any persuasion got my vote. They’re welcome to my bile, though. Every last one of them.

You don’t spend dough refurbishing a house condemned to demolition in 4 months unless you’re some sort of imbecile – And you certainly wouldn’t pay over the odds to useless feckers to sit down and drink tea all bloody day instead of getting some work done.

So WHY give the already self-entitled another jolly? Where’s MINE ffs?

There are kids going through bins for something to satiate their hunger for complete fuck’s sake; and some people are making out that these MEP’s are some sort of panacea?

There’s a shortage of nurses, doctors, fire bobbies, plod, and teachers. Everything’s been cut back to the bastard bone. The rich refuse to pay and avoid paying for the things they use every bit as much as the poor – who are paying for the rich’s freeloading, and middle and uppr classes are telling us it’s ok because europe will make it all better…for their own eU fringe benefits that don’t ‘trickle down’ whatsoever.

Then they get angry because the poor didn’t vote as they wanted?

Tough fucking titty, you can kiss it.

It’s not the country that’s fooked, it’s 48% of the people in it.

      3. The Toffee (597) 24/05/2019 at 7:28 am

You seem to be a little confused, Could you please explain how your ‘cunning Baldrick’ plan to give Farage’s mob a free ride will save money. To me it seems counter intuitive because the UK will still be paying for their MEPs regardless of who it is. You’ll have given your voice to the fascists who are ‘helpfully’ going to piss off our major trading partner as much as they can. Never mind , I suppose we can always fall back on our deal with the Faroe Islands

It’s unfortunate that you chose to go against what JC said in his speech on Sunday. It’s also quite surprising that someone who proclaims to be such an avid supporter of JC should do this.

      4. You seem to be a little confused, Could you please explain how your ‘cunning Baldrick’ plan to give Farage’s mob a free ride will save money

For the last time it was YOU gave farage the ‘free ride’ F complete and total FS.

YOU – with your obfuscation, procrastination and persistent whining.

We wouldn’t have needed go through the entire friggin’ rigmarole if you’d have shut the hell up in the first bleedin’ place and accepted democracy.

(Oh shite I’ve done it again – here it comes for the fuckteenth time…Brace yerselves)

  9. Other readers may be interested to know that the following conference motion will shortly be doing the rounds and will be presented at this years conference.

(This is the full text of the conference motion)

    Stop Brexit, transform Britain
The real division in society is not between those who voted Leave and Remain, but between the many and the few. Brexit is poisoning politics and stopping us from addressing the issues that matter to people. We need a general election to deliver a radical Labour government.
If the UK leaves the EU, Brexit does not end. Instead, we face years of negotiations and trade deals that deregulate our economy in the interests of the few, making it much harder to deliver our radical manifesto.
Brexit is a Tory project, and Labour opposes it. It would mean a victory for the nationalist right, and is a threat to our rights, jobs, NHS, public services and the fight against climate change.
We will answer insecurity and exploitation with hope and solidarity to bring the country together. We will rebuild communities with investment, expand common ownership, boost wages and union rights, and challenge the narratives of the nationalist right. Free movement is a workers’ right which we will defend.
The Leave vote is more than three years old, and there is no clear democratic mandate for any Brexit settlement. The democratic imperative now is for the people to have the final say. Labour will back Remain in that public vote.
Labour is an internationalist party, with a duty to challenge the far right. We will campaign for a Europe-wide Green New Deal, levelling up of wages, democratising European institutions, ending Fortress Europe, and an international strategy to tax the rich and corporations.

  10. This may not be good news, we will probably end up with Boris as PM who will be even worse and we will still have Brexit to cope with. It will also increase Tory support.

    1. Certainly not ‘good’ news – except for the Tories’. A last gasp attempt to recover ground.

Incredible as it would be in a sane (non-Brexit) universe, it is possible that Porkies Johnson will actually get a look-in – although there will be pretty solid parliamentary opposition.

After the resurrection of Dracula of the Snake Oil in the European elections, there is clearly enough shared stupidity around to threaten any scenario.

    2. I guess to be fair we should gratefully acknowledge that she was stunningly successful at being one of the Labour Party’s best election assets.

It’s a shame she couldn’t continue to help us out by clinging on for a bit longer

  11. If May really did have the Country’s best interests at heart, even though she is going she could have said that she now believes that putting the Brexit decision back to the people is the best way to go. This would also put the boot into the far right who have just done the same to her.

  12. Okay but I would advise against the use of statements like:

“and there is no room for ‘self-indulgent gesture politics’ or narrow obsessions.”

It looks like it could have been written by Neil Kinnock!
