Corbyn arrived to announce Labour’s plan to scrap SAT tests for primary kids – but received an ecstatic welcome before opening his mouth
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn spoke to teachers this afternoon at the National Education Conference (NEU) in Liverpool – and announced that Labour in government will scrap the senseless SAT testing that inflicts such stress and even mental health issues on primary school children.
But before he could even utter a word, he received a rapturous welcome from the assembled teachers:
This is not the first time Corbyn has received a such huge acclaim from the teaching profession. The NEU and its predecessor the NUT have consistently supported the Labour leader and the party’s policies under him – and even head teachers were no less enthusiastic when he spoke to the National Association of Head Teachers’ conference:

The NEU’s joint general secretary Dr Mary Bousted said this afternoon that Corbyn “gets it”. Clearly her members feel likewise – and the vast majority of the teaching profession.

Teachers supported Jeremy at the last election and were severely criticised for it – glad to see the criticism was like water off a ducks back and they still support the man and his policies – for the many not the few!

It’s clear the MSM are avoiding mention of what was clearly an important speech. They highlight the promise to get rid of Sats and the Guardian grudgingly mentions a standing ovation but no film or direct report of the speech. It’s the same with the BBC and the DM refers to his promise ‘made campaigning’ with a photo of him knocking on doors, adding the policy was announced at a Teachers Meeting,
Disgraceful ( but typical) of the MSM too not cover the SATs issue. However this pledge will be in our manifesto so not reporting it now will have little effect. People will get to know about it when really it matters.
The education system is, for all people who are concerned that it should be much much better than it is, the land of the brain-dead. And this runs through all levels, from kindergarten to university. Management seems to be the place for pirates, charlatans and the broadly incompetent.
The vastly overdue reformation will need to be massive. To paraphrase the Idiot Osborne, it will need to be so big that it will be visible from space.
