Video: May’s speech causes near-universal outrage. Here’s the truth-filtered version

PM’s “it’s everyone else’s fault” speech last night outraged almost everyone with its cravenness and duplicity. The SKWAWKBOX fixed it for her

Last night, Theresa May gave a speech that consisted of Olympic-class blame-dodging, finger-pointing and titanic denial that was so craven and dishonest that even the BBC admitted it couldn’t find anyone who approved of it.

This morning, outraged MPs have complained of death threats and have described May’s language as a reckless incitement to violence by extremists. It was astonishingly, inexcusably bad – and just as astounding in its ‘neck’, as May blamed everyone else for exactly what she’s done and caused.

So it was crying out for some added truth – and the SKWAWKBOX has fixed the subtitles to reflect reality:

SKWAWKBOX comment:

It was already screamingly obvious that the country needs a general election to remove not only a flailing, floundering PM – but also the party that has allowed and supported her non-stop incompetence, cowardice and contempt.

After last night, is there anyone left who can deny it?

  1. The nation gives its verdict. The parliamentary petition

Revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU.
The government repeatedly claims exiting the EU is ‘the will of the people’. We need to put a stop to this claim by proving the strength of public support now, for remaining in the EU. A People’s Vote may not happen – so vote now.

Before May’s speech it stood at about 200,000 but has seen a dramatic increase to more than 850,000. It is currently increasing at a rate of over 1,000 signatures per minute.

It keeps crashing because of the unprecedented demand so persevere and try again.

    1. 1 million marched against the Iraq war and it still happened. No! We need a real People’s Vote, a General Election to sort this country out. That should be our priority. Our MP’s if they’re so concerned about the deal, why aren’t they in Parliament over this weekend to come together with a deal?

Of course I agree, but in the meantime it does no harm to make our voices heard whenever and wherever we can.

This petition has already attracted the signatures of nearly double that on any other petition that has been on the Parliament E- Petitions website since its inception

    2. The need to retract Article 50 has been obvious for a long time. There is neither a rationale nor a majority for the Brexit shit show.

This was clear immediately after the referendum which, despite all the heavy UKIP/ERG propaganda showed that this major constitutional change was not supported by a majority of the electorate – normally considered a precondition for a binding vote.

Since then, even the spoof majority has disappeared – with ‘Remain’ consistently in the lead, with a larger majority than was found in the passing referendum vote. This simply confirms the normal convention that should always have applied – that in default of clear majority, the status quo remains.

All this explains the desperate twisted logic of the ‘Leave’ definition of ‘democracy’ : essentially a manic attempt to avoid the conventions of that idea at all costs.

Contrary to conventional wisdom, Parliament hasn’t in this situation shown it’s distance from that oft-abused entity ‘The Peeple’. Raher the reverse – it has actually reflected the impossibility that is the Brexit project supported by a split minority – aka the Shit Show.

Pressing ahead is demonstrably nonsense – whatever the ‘deal’.So time to face reality after this unwelcome stay in La La Land.

The only way to surely accomplish this is to ignore infants chucking rattles out of the pram (which they will do) and return to imperfect but workable sanity. The on-line petition won’t do that – but it is a marker of the majority (a) of the oft-abused notion of ‘The Peeple Swill’ and (b) the wishes of Labour voters and the Party at large.

      Get signing.

  2. Now we have the “hostile environment” for democracy, the HoC and it’s MPs.

    When will she go?

  3. We all make mistakes; each of us are fallible creatures – even those who consider ourselves perfect ha ha haha lol! BUT mistakes made this should be a golden opportunity to learn from them. Again you have asked for a comment about May’s it’s everybody else’s fault speech and inserted ‘Why Corbyn walked out of Umunna meeting’. I have read Skwawkbox article, but I can’t know why Corbyn did. I am sorry if I have commented in the wrong box.

  4. >>Why Corbyn walked out of Umunna meeting’. I have read Skwawkbox article, but I can’t know why Corbyn did.

Because it was a leader meeting the TIG are not a party they are a private company. They have NO leader and even if they did where is there manifesto they stood on?

So are you still insisting they are a party and Jeremy? Should have stayed after he was deliberately insulted in this way by weak May in an attempt to embarrass him, or why did she ambush him with them turning up?

  5. The Revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU petition on the parliamentary e-petitions website has now reached an all-time record busting response of over 1,000,000 signatures.
    https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/241584

The petition is currently collecting signatures at the rate of over 1,000 per minute. If you sign then don’t forget to action the confirmation email to confirm your signature. Unfortunately there currently appears to be several hours delay in sending these out so it is likely final that the result will be much higher.

    1. The number of people who have signed this petition now stands at over 3,200,000.

However I stated above that this was an all time record response to a petition on the e-petitions website. THIS WAS INCORRECT, I hadn’t realised that they start a news list after each GE.

That honour appears to belong to a petition that was started in the previous administration. Curiously enough also a petition about Brexit

EU Referendum Rules triggering a 2nd EU Referendum
We the undersigned call upon HM Government to implement a rule that if the remain or leave vote is less than 60% based a turnout less than 75% there should be another referendum.
      4,150,262 signatures

THEY CAN’T SAY THEY WEREN’T WARNED

  6. There must be serious concern about the ‘Cabal’ that are writing speeches for the PM.!!!

    1. TM may well have crap advisors and speech writers but she chose them and she self evidently accepted their advice, She had to sack her previous advisors in the midst of a scandal so Theresa May has a history of bad judgement selecting those closest to her. The buck stops firmly with TM.

  7. Interesting about that previous petition. Of course – the ignoring of that request (or something like it) is at the dead centre of the pile of crap thta the country is now in.

I write as this current petition has passed it – heading for 4.5 m signatures. But I have no great hopes other than that it will provoke more ignoring from the terminally and willfully ignorant and knee-knockingly timid.

    – despite the fact that the numbers signing totally dwarf the 3/4 million votes that would have eliminated even the spurious ‘Leave’ victory. But shhh! – we don’t talk actual figures, like minority 37% claimed as a ‘majority’ vote to be ‘honoured’.

    1. It is amusing to compare it with the ‘Leave the EU without a deal in March 2019’ petition on the same site where the ERG & Lexiteers (despite their best efforts) have only managed to add c150,000 signatures in the same time period.

      1. …and they’ve been waiting forever for a Brexit sponsored poll to prove how wrong all the other polls are but we’ve heard nothing but silence since the ‘Leave Means Leave’ Com-Res poll was published a couple of days ago. It makes one wonder why the Lexiteers haven’t been on here shouting about how the ‘right sort of poll’ gives ‘honest’ results.
