Corbynista councillor in £1,000 donation scandal

A prominent Labour councillor and party official is at the centre of a £1,000 donation scandal in the London borough of Haringey.

A Haringey councillor is donating £1,000 of her annual allowance to support youth services that have suffered years of funding cuts.

Cllr Seema Chandwani – who is also a member of Labour’s important Conference Arrangements Committee (CAC) – was elected to represent the borough’s West Green in December.

She has donated £1,000 of her councillor’s allowance to the Tottenham Youth Fund to help local youth and tackle crime.

The scandal, of course, is that she needs to take such a step because of the government’s ideological commitment to its discredited and damaging austerity programme.

Ms Chandwani deserves enormous credit for her commitment to her residents’ well-being and represents what the real Labour Party means for the country.

  1. Yes, but! £1,000 ~ if only the “new way of doing politics” was an actuality. With an activist, community development, approach, could get some serious £££s. The Unity Youth & Community Centre, in Granby [Toxteth] has benefited from over £1M over a dozen years [disclosure, I wrote the bids]. From Big Lottery Fund, BBC Children in Need, Henry Smith Charity, Tudor Trust and various others.

  2. Seema! 1000 pounds it shows her dedication to this cause welcome I hope to a new era
