Campaign for Labour Party Democracy (CLPD) is holding a fringe at Labour’s north-west regional conference on Saturday evening featuring a line-up that any Labour members attending the conference will want to hear.

NEC member Yasmine Dar, JVL representative and left-slate NCC (National Constitutional Committee) candidate Stephen Marks and well-known north-west councillor, Labour and union activist Lorraine Beavers headline will speak and answer questions at an event that many expect will herald the forming of a CLPD regional organisation in the north-west:

The event starts at 5.30pm at the Grand Hotel, which is also the venue for the two-day regional conference.

  1. Don’t be shy, Steve – Give yersel’ a plug, too! There’ll be people going especially cos you’re there, I’m sure.

    Unfortunately and as a non-member I can’t make it, but I hope you have a blast 😉

  2. We should seriously ask the question, what good are the regions offices that appear to working against the interests of the members.

If they are to be left to operate, (I would shut them down and transfer spending back to the local parties) but if they are left, then the position of regional director should be elected and the current lot put up for election – one man one vote, in all the regional constituencies.

  3. The Labour Party still has a long way to go in terms of reform and democracy. I hope we see real progress in the next year or so. Practically every leftish government anywhere has ended up on the right and/or authoritarian, only a fully democratic party can stop that happening yet again.
