Mendoza expands lecture capacity to cope with demand as first ticket batch goes within hours

Kerry-Anne Mendoza

As the SKWAWKBOX has covered, Canary editor-in-chief Kerry-Anne Mendoza yesterday turned her scandalous treatment by the National Union of Journalists and a small group of white, elitist members into a statement by arranging an alternative Claudia Jones Memorial Lecture for Black History Month.

Mendoza had been invited to deliver the original lecture by the NUJ’s Black Members Council – but the NUJ overruled its black members – and annulled their democracy – to cancel the invitation and install a backup speaker.

Mendoza’s decision, supported by other left-wing organisations and publications, to stage the inaugural alternative Claudia Jones Memorial Lecture is far more in keeping with the idea of honouring the memory of a radical, black, feminist ground-breaker.

And it seems plenty of people agree.

The tickets for the lecture, to be held at the Sands Films Studio in London, went within a few hours – and Mendoza hard to enlarge the capacity by fifty percent and issue a new batch of tickets to cope with demand.

Of those extra tickets, just sixteen remain as of the time of publication of this article. Click here to enjoy not just a great speech but a historic moment – entry is free – but be quick.

Update: all tickets are now gone.

  1. It is heart warming to see the support for Kerry-Anne and ‘reclaiming Claudia Jones’.

I hope the calls for live streaming can be accommodated so those of us who can’t attend in person can also listen in/watch remotely and show our support.

  2. Bloody hell this is just not fair I tell you , every time I try they have all gone !!! ( joke )
Good on yer Kerry it’s great to see the response .

  3. excellent news would be good if journalists boycotted the official event in support of Kerry-Anne
