CWU, Unison add their support to Drakeford’s Welsh leadership campaign

The campaign of left-winger Mark Drakeford for the leadership of the Welsh Labour Party continues to build impetus. Hot on the heels of endorsements by Unite and South Wales NUM, the CWU and Unison unions have also declared their support.

With the switch to OMOV (one member, one vote) from the old ‘electoral college’ system following a special conference in Cardiff last month expected to favour the left-wing candidate, Drakeford’s campaign is building a strong head of steam.

Ballots go out to Welsh Labour members from 9 November and the result will be announced 6 December. Welsh Labour will hopefully soon have the socialist leader it needs. It can’t come too soon.

  1. Thoroughly decent bloke and alligned with JC. Hes no “personality” but should do a good job .

    1. Hes taken time out to speak to our corner of the Vale of Glamorgan and is behind the continuing the moratorium on fracking Wales. Another major issue is whether to put a new M4 spur around Newport that would go right through some of the most important habitat in Wales. He says hes waiting till an “independent” report is finished before making a decision !!

    1. I don’t know of any socialists who are nationalists in the Welsh Labour party.

  2. In Mark’s own words: “I have always been very committed to devolution, and I think allowing Welsh people to have the maximum say over decisions that matter only in Wales is absolutely the right thing – and that journey is not over. But I also believe that Wales’ future is best secured through a very successful United Kingdom.” Make what you want of that!

  3. Large glossy posters with their own face on… Makes me think of careerists. Sorry….

  4. interesting to note that the Co-op party have nominated a Blairite ( why am I not surprised )

    1. Blairites have the blood of the austerity dead on their hands as much as the Tories do .
