Times’ new Corbyn-smear low exposes Establishment bankruptcy

The Times recently provided an object lesson in the depths of Establishment fear and desperation to smear Jeremy Corbyn with its attempt to paint the Labour leader as antisemitic for appearing alongside a respected Jewish Holocaust survivor – eight years ago. Corbyn, at that time, was standing squarely in support of Jewish people, as his voting record – easily checkable – showed.

The Times had scraped right through the barrel-bottom – but it seems it just kept on digging until it hit the sewer.

The rag has now attempted to smear Corbyn by association with racist organisation the KKK, based on a comment from the KKK’s leader. But to use that, the Murdoch outfit had to ignore the fact that David Duke had launched a vicious attack on Corbyn for his anti-racist activities:

The Times is on a roll – through a manure heap – as this graphic of smears from just this week displays succinctly:

Comment:

The Establishment is stooping to depths that are not only ludicrous but self-defeating. The smears have been pushed so far beyond any credibility that they are exposing the desperation, fear and bankruptcy of those behind them.

And the Times has put that beyond reasonable doubt.

  1. This is for those older than me (im 33) and have been politically engaged for many years.

Has the media in this country always been this biased towards anyone who might distrupt the status quo?

Ed Milliband got it bad and he was mild politically. What Corbyn is receiving is tatamount to state sanction character assassination.

    1. …Has the media in this country always been this biased towards anyone who might distrupt the status quo?…

Not according to my recollection, and I’m 50 and have been politically engaged since the Thatcher/Kinnock years. This is a first for me. I guess their desperation and intensity of outright hatred is made even more pronounced by the fact there is an alternative which is ‘drowning out’ their vile message: social media. People are no longer reliant on MSM to form their political opinions. Before, at least they used to be magnanimous in their criticism. But now, that wont be strong enough a negative message, they have to ‘go nuclear’ to make any impact. The good thing is that they have used their ‘nuclear option’ including roping in right-wing Israeli government propaganda machinery, and the man is still standing. They have nothing left. Not to say that there aren’t some foolhardy Blairite MPs who are still deluded enough to think that they can launch chicken coup Mk-2, which is what all these AS smears are a precursor to.

      1. You mean to say you don’t recall Murdoch’s Sunday Times running the ‘Kinnock’s Kremlin Connection’ so-called story just a couple of months before the 1992 general election, when Andrew Neil was editor, which was dutifully taken up by the rest of the Tory-supporting rags, although it was based on absolutely nothing?

But then again, if you run it as a front-page headline story (with an additional couple of pages inside) then there MUST be something to it, eh, even though there wasn’t. And there were numerous lies and fabrications and distortions about Labour Party policies churned out by the right-wing press in the months prior to the election. And then there was the infamous front page headline in the Sun on the day of the election:

‘If Kinnock wins today will the last person to leave Britain please turn out the lights’

        https://sociologytwynham.com/2013/10/18/sun-headlines-and-their-political-influence/

And needless to say, the Sun and the other right-wing rags backed Blair (later on) because they knew the Tories were done for on the one hand, and that Blair was one of THEM on the other.

The amount of vitriol and smears and lies and fabrication churned out depends on how close the two main parties are in the polls, and in the run up to the 1992 election it was VERY close, hence their concerted ‘campaign’ against Neil Kinnock – who had been labelled ‘the Welsh Windbag’ long before – and the LP..

    2. No, this is a unique situation. In the mix are: A bolshie Israeli lobby, galvanised by Trump, Labour party Atlanticists who think Corbyn is too soft on nuclear weapons and not hard enough on Russia or Syria, Labour party remain supporters who think Corbyn is worse than May, Labour party right wingers who think they might lose their careers unless they can remove Corbyn, Right-wing/establishment/liberal media who despise Corbyn, a weak Conservative party and an electorate that has had it with neoliberalism and austerity. So, all the protagonists apart form the electorate have put aside their differences and Corbyn’s Labour movement must be destroyed whatever the cost.

    3. Worse I can remember before this was the propaganda campaign against Arthur Scargill. Then the deep state in the form of MI5 was implicated in some of it according to some newsppapers at the time.

  2. I hear the BBC is running its Corbyn hit pieces often immediately before their giving air time to Robinson and his narrative… creating a subliminal link in the minds of the public? Of course MSM has been giving air and print time to far right actors for a long time and they are rolled out en masse in major propaganda campaigns such as EURef and now the assault on Corbyn and Socialism..

There is definitely a concerted push to conflate Socialism and communism with far right, even fascistic ideology. I have noticed the extreme alt right have been pushing this for a long time now, equating socialism and communism with Nazism.

Socialism and all forms of communism have always been the biggest fear of super wealthy vested interests and capitalism. Wonder why that could be?

    1. Maria, a frightening hypothesis. Increasingly, I suspect it might be a deliberate and intentional choice on the part of ‘our Beeb’, afterall they seem reluctant to be out of step with the likes of Murdoch’s Times, the Telegraph, Mail, et al.

  3. Today the times is pushing the idea that the left are divided because some want to ride out the AS smears and some want to kick back.

Tomorrow it’ll push the idea that the left are even more divided because some want to kick the arse off Murdoch, some want to kick his nuts in and some want to kick his head in.

Not exactly existential differences, either of them 🙂

    1. ‘Today the Times is pushing the idea that the left are divided because some want to ride out the AS smears and some want to kick back.’

And still others want to expose the smears and bogus accusations – and the people behind them and complicit in them AND their motive for it all – for what they are. As I keep saying – and I’ll keep saying it! – the most disgusting and despicable thing about this black propaganda op is that they are using the very thing that led to the Holocaust as a weapon against their political opponents, and the reality is that they really don’t give a damn about actual anti-semitism, except in so far as they can use it – one way or another – for their own ends.

  4. This is absolutely a case of swiftboating, turning a lifelong virtue into the opposite – how are all the trendy leftists (Owen Jones, et al), so blind to this!

      1. Thanks for sharing that. I generally agree with it.

I have no issues whatsoever with people’s sexuality, race, gender or whatever, and I will defend their right against oppression, but the first thing we have to strive for is “workers of the world unite”, which means workers whatever their sexuality, race, gender or whatever unite against their common exploiter. First we must unite against the dividers.

  5. Owen Jones is ok. He’s on our side.

The Times – yet another paper owned by the utterly rancid Murdoch.
Capitalism has an awful lot to answer for.

    1. I’m sorry, he isn’t. People like Jones hijacked the left and further the cause of managed democracy (on purpose or accidentally). To quote Sheldon Wolin “Inverted totalitarianism reverses things. It is all politics all of the time but a politics largely untempered by the political. Party squabbles are occasionally on public display, and there is a frantic and continuous politics among factions of the party, interest groups, competing corporate powers, and rival media concerns. And there is, of course, the culminating moment of national elections when the attention of the nation is required to make a choice of personalities rather than a choice between alternatives. What is absent is the political, the commitment to finding where the common good lies amidst the welter of well-financed, highly organised, single-minded interests rabidly seeking governmental favours and overwhelming the practices of representative government and public administration by a sea of cash.”

Jones is a liberal who is all about the “frantic politics of factions” and has little connection to the working class.

      1. ” What is absent is the political, the commitment to finding where the common good lies ”

You’ll find a lot of what you are looking for in the Labour Party’s manifesto.

  6. Despite numerous cases of alleged anti-semitism during the past three years since shortly after JC was elected leader (which will no doubt magically come to an end if the Blairites regain control), as far as I am aware, not a single one of the allegations has – usually after an inordinate length of time! – been upheld. What I find most despicable about this black propaganda op – for that is what it is of course – is that they are using the very thing that led to the Holocaust as a weapon against their political opponents (or enemies, as they would see it), never mind smearing and falsely accusing innocent people/individuals of A/S (or sexual abuse or homophobia etc), or duping and deceiving millions of people in the general public, or subverting democracy by such means.

Racism and anti-semitism (and sexual abuse and homophobia etc) are ALL criminal offences, and yet not a single one of the accusations, of whatever nature, has ever been reported or referred to the police (and a criminal investigation taken place as a consequence). But then why bother with such trifles when the MSM and the accusers have already pronounced them guilty! As Malcolm X said:

“The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”

    1. And my point is of course that these alleged cases of anti-semitism etc DON’T get reported or referred to the police precisely because they are bogus and false and phoney.

    2. And re the covert recording of Pete Willsman, which was done at a private meeting of the NEC, does anyone with some knowledge in law know whether doing such a thing would constitute a criminal offence.

And I assume – not having heard any different – that the Momentum leadership haven’t reconsidered their (outrageous and totally unwarranted) decision?

      1. Dave Hansel, from his post – copied and pasted below, hopefully with his kind permission – on previous SB article of 30/07/2018 – AUDIO: WILLSMAN RECORDING AND THE MISMATCH BETWEEN WHAT WAS SAID AND WHAT’S CLAIMED:

Without going into detail as to why, I am legally advised that, in addition to the breach of Party rules this represents, several legal channels exist to pursue such a case which are not mutually exclusive:

        – Police for breach of personal data rights under DPA at a meeting of a (in law) private organisation.

        – Civil action – which can be triggered any time up to six years.

        – Complaint to the ICO

  7. And in spite of, or perhaps because of, these smears 1,000 new members joined the Labour Party last week.

  8. I am not clever enough to organise this but would love to see a coordinated cessation of people paying for their TV license along the lines of last nights magnificent Twitter storm.Tonight having complained to the BBC regarding their repeated use of the term “two Labour MPs being investigated for speaking out about anti Semitism ” and pointing out that the investigation was for foul mouthed outbursts which bought the party into disrepute I received a reply which stated “the potential disciplinary action for bringing the party into disrepute is a result of their vocal comments about anti Semitism ” I really don’t think they care about accuracy any more.

    1. It goes way beyond the BBC Jim. Tonight on Ch4 news they intimated that the election results in Zimbabwe were “announced in the middle of the night when most people were tucked up in bed” as if it was a sneaky trick and not normal election practice. It happens all the time on every channel. News has largely become opinion dressed up to influence us in some way.

  9. @Moosy above. I was unable to leave a comment to your question, it won’t let me. The answer is no, this is a unique situation.

  10. Just came across this disgusting hit-piece on JC (and his supporters AND Pete Willsman) in the Guardian today. I only read a couple of paragraphs or so before the smugness of the writer became too much to bear. And needless to say – as per usual – there was no Comments section. It’s simply amazing how many repugnant and vile propagandists work at the Guardian now:

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/aug/03/corbynistas-politics-labour-leader

  11. Thanks for that… not 🙂

That twatulent journalista (whose name I’ve already happily forgotten) is more repetitive, flaccid of style and tediously unreadable than Jones.
    A pox on her progeny.
