Exclusive: MP Spellar facing racism allegations

Warley MP John Spellar

Last week, the SKWAWKBOX revealed that a senior Black Country Labour MP was facing  allegations of racist behaviour toward a young constituent from a minority ethnic background.

Tonight, the SKWAWKBOX can exclusively reveal that the MP in question is John Spellar, a key figure in the Labour right nationally as well as in the West Midlands. A party complaints officer has been allocated to investigate.

Mr Spellar is aware of the case. The allegations have not been proven and he is entitled to the presumption of innocence until such time as the case is judged one way or the other.

He recently visited Saudi Arabia along with now-suspended MP John Woodcock. He is a director of the company formed as a vehicle for the right-wing pressure group, Labour First.

The SKWAWKBOX contacted John Spellar last night for comment. He had not responded at the time of writing.

  1. Not a very nice human being in my opinion, poorly read and a deeply uncritical thinker but innocent in this case until proven guilty.
Hopefully the left wing democratic socialists in the W. Midlands can start to shine and catch up with JC and history!
    I wish them well!
Solidarity and hope we do well tonight!

  2. People like John Spellar aspire to be our leaders. I thought our leaders were supposed to be inspirational not infamous.

  3. I was so hoping it was going to be holier than thou Mz Gobshite Philips, but Spellar would be no loss to our Party as he had no place in it in the first place, just a pity it’s innocent until proven guilty as I’d love to have strung him up in a sour apple tree! Grrrrrrrrrrrr

  4. I was so hoping it was going to be holier than thou Mz Gobshite Philips,

When Skwawkbox broke the news t’other day and mentioned W.Midlands/Black Country MP it left folks spoiled for choice, there’s that many malodourous rats down that way (I had it down to spellar, bailey or austin, meself.)

Between that region, S.Wales (Barring Paul Flynn) and Notts I’m not sure there’s a labour MP actually holds any labour party values. They can all sod off, for me.

  5. In his book “Hammer of the Left”, John Golding describes Spellar as ‘hard right’.

Spellar is entitled to a presumption of innocence as you rightly point out. He was, like Woodcock, however, quite happy to deny that right to the Russians over the Skripal nerve agent attacks.
