Video: unbelievable – S*n political editor – “you can’t point to anything we’ve said untrue”

You seriously couldn’t make this up. In a BBC exchange with Faiza Shaheen, the director of the Class think-tank, the S*n’s political editor – with a straight face – claims that she couldn’t “point to a single thing we’ve ever said that was untrue”.

Ms Shaheen’s face tells its own story:

In case Mr Tom Newton-Dunn needs assistance, any person on Merseyside could point him to a huge, stinking pile of ‘untrue’ about the Hillsborough disaster – which no doubt influenced Liverpool Walton MP Dan Carden to tweet this:

It’s not as though the lie is in dispute – the S*n offered an entirely inadequate, entirely cowardly apology for it two years ago:

On another notable occasion, the S*n had to publish a front-page apology to the leader of the Labour Party after, well, apparently just making stuff up about him:

There’s also the minor matter of the incident where the rag had to publish a retraction of fake news about the editor of this blog:

And any number of other instances.

Yet Newton-Dunn claimed with a straight face that Ms Shaheen would be unable to point to anything untrue.

“Absolutely staggering” is right.

  1. The perfect result would have been uncontrollable laughter with everybody in the studio corpsing for the next five minutes.
    Wet spots optional.

  2. But really, he didn’t say …

“YOU CAN’T POINT TO ANYTHING WE’VE SAID THAT’S UNTRUE”

    did he. He said …

“YOU CAN’T POINT TO ANYTHING I’VE SAID UNTRUE”

    rather different isn’t it.

  3. Yeah. I was the one who took the Sun to IPSO (Press complaints) and got the first ever apology on the Sun’s front page. after three months of carefully calibrated argument, and what seemed like hundreds of letters and not a little guile. Just me, a retired little ol’ pensioner lady, (although being pisspoor journos, they did not look into their own press files to find out my attack-dog credentials and if I say so myself, cool background)..so there I was, against the whole of the Sun management, its newsdesk and a legal team and full time ombudswoman. Sun so hates apologising for anything they just don’t. IPSO, is so tied in with the establishment, it made the announcement I’d won near Christmas and tried to soft soap me that they would do the release, little knowing I was an experienced press officer and although retired, not exactly past it so knew they were trying to bury it. I PR’d it myself and ended up with lots of lovely coverage about the fact of the apology even though you neede a microscope to see it on the front page and most of the stuff was on page 2, but other nationals made up for it. There was an Indie headline for example, when the Indie was still printed which blared out itbold red lettering : Gotcha! I loved that.
Newton-Dunn’s colleague Harry Cole who used to work with Guido Fawkes, had done the original story in September, a front-page ‘Court Jezter’ splash about Short Money that was fanciful , degrading to Corbyn, and basically completely untrue. I tried to let Corbyn’s office know about it, but they were unresponsive after five attempts. I think it is because Corbyn tends not to moan about anything that happens to him only about rotten stuff that happens to others . Nice man. Nicer than me.

  4. Neutron-bomb’s hardly alone in believing his own shite though, is he?

We’ve heard oborne & letts singing the praises of the daily heil on national Tv; and nasty nick robinson at the beeb saying just about everyone else tells lies bar his beloved corporation.

Now I dislike owen jones, but he got it spot-on t’other day. They are a group mentality; just like most mp’s they’re only interested in themselves and their careers. Somehow above scrutiny and criticism.

  5. Another thing…

Neutron-bomb appearing on screen looking like he’s just got out of bed… I seem to remember an anti-Corbyn campaign based on Corbyn not wearing a tie & having a beard etc.

All the dough neutron’s on, and he can’t even smarten hisself up for a Tv appearance? No excuses for him being a meff as well as a liar.

  6. Yeah. My name is Rosie and I was the one who took the Sun to IPSO (Press complaints) and got the first ever apology on the Sun’s front page. after three months of carefully calibrated argument, and what seemed like hundreds of letters and not a little guile. Just me, a retired little ol’ pensioner lady, (although being pisspoor journos, they did not look into their own press files to find out my credentials – so there I was, against the whole of the Sun management, its newsdesk and a legal team and full time ombudswoman. Sun so hates apologising they squirmed. IPSO, is so tied in with the establishment, it made the announcement I’d won close to Christmas dfeliberately, and soft soaped that they would do the release, little knowing I was an experienced press officer and although retired, not exactly past it so knew they were trying to bury it. I PR’d it myself and ended up with lots of coverage about the fact of the apology even though you needed a microscope to see it on the front page. Most grovelling was done on a non-facing page 2, still better than back pages where they put apologies which have not gone through IPSO adjudication. but other nationals made up for it. There was an Indie headline for example,-in was the days when the Indie was still printed – which trumpeted out itbold red lettering : Gotcha! I loved that.

  7. No surprise here, as far as I’m concerned but the open faced blatancy that this guys denial is accompanied by, that’s a bit breathtaking! One shakes one’s head in wonder and thinks, are these bozos actually aware of the effect there barefaced public lying has on people and it undermines the veracity of all who would claim to be in authority? But then, what do I know? I’m just a cynical, old, Commie bastard who would say that anyway!

  8. I feel obliged to speak up for Mr Twunton-Bumm on technical grounds.
You can point to a million untrue things they’ve WRITTEN… 🙂

  9. The main thing is, we, who can’t be corrupted, by their printed and spoken lies will carry on attacking those, like the (scum) and the right wing lying media, who, are walking a knife edge!
Everytime they speak or write of bringing down a Socialist Left Labour Party, “that will”, when we gain our rightful place in Parliament, make sure they no longer print their stinking rotten lies on a daily basis.
