Khan’s rejection of Kober appointment rumour could not be blunter

Since centrist Haringey councillor Claire Kober’s announcement earlier today that she will step down as leader of the Labour-run council after May’s local elections, strong rumours have been circulating that she would be appointed by London Mayor Sadiq Khan as his head of housing for the city.

Khan has rejected the idea in the bluntest and most emphatic terms.

The SKWAWKBOX contacted the mayor’s office to ask whether there was any truth in the rumour – and received a short, unequivocal response.

A spokesperson for Khan said simply:

No, it’s not true.

  1. Mr Khan knows now which side his bread is buttered on.

It’s taken a while to sink in but it looks like he is finally getting with the programme.

I think Conference helped him realise he was on the wrong path and needed to correct his ways if he wanted a future in the Labour Party.

  2. Khan maybe no at the moment but there are one or two apparatchiks who’d might appreciate a Right winger on their team for future use hanging around the scene!

  3. So… he’s giving her a different position then?! “Centrists” look after each other…

  4. Kober is ‘toxic’ but no doubt willing to be part of any Moderate Trojan Horse to rid electorate of Corbyn. Democratic support for Corbyn and Labour manifesto means zero to the power crazy.
