Iran’s Press TV? Corbyn not only signed but sponsored this EDM against them

This week, the SKWAWKBOX has exposed an array of fake news concocted against Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn relating to Iranian English-language broadcaster Press TV. Although right-wing and ‘mainstream’ media have claimed that Corbyn has gone easy on Iran because he appeared on Press TV, Corbyn supported no fewer than fifty-one ‘Early Day Motions’ (EDMs) condemning Iran over human rights abuses.

But that’s not all.

EDM 1181 was tabled in Parliament on 13 December 2010. The motion was highly critical, not only of the fairness of Iran’s judicial system – but also of the actions of Press TV in filming and broadcasting a ‘confession’ by a woman at risk of death by stoning.

It was sponsored by one Jeremy Corbyn, then a little-known Labour back-bencher.:

If you believe the ‘MSM’, Corbyn’s integrity is questionable because of his appearance on Press TV, even though numerous other MPs including Tories and LibDems have also been appeared on the station.

Yet Corbyn – after he had appeared – sponsored a motion highly critical of Press TV’s behaviour.

The mainstream media’s fake-news assault on Corbyn for appearing as a guest on Press TV must now be considered well and truly defunct. Corbyn’s behaviour regarding Iran demonstrates, unsurprisingly, an integrity that cannot be bought or compromised

But it’s highly likely that only the widespread awareness of facts like EDM1181 and Corbyn’s fifty-one motions criticising Iran itself will stop them from regurgitating their fake news – and perhaps even that won’t be enough.
