Exclusive: Merseyside Royal Mail workers refuse to deliver S*n leaflets

In the last hour or so, Royal Mail workers on Merseyside have agreed that leaflets or vouchers sent by the S*n ‘newspaper’ to addresses in the Liverpool and Wirral areas will not be delivered, in solidarity with Hillsborough victims and their families and the people of the region, who were smeared by the Murdoch publication.

Members of the CWU union met today to discuss the ban and have notified management. The leaflets, which bear a ‘Merry Christmas from the S*n’ message and have arrived at the Royal Mail depot ready for processing, will remain boxed and will presumably be returned to their originator. Management has not yet responded, but given the strength of feeling in the area against the S*n, may well be supportive.

Going nowhere except back to sender: boxed-up S*n leaflets

Earlier this week, the SKWAWKBOX reported on a series of boycotts by Merseyside restaurant workers of a promotional voucher from the same publication.

The SKWAWKBOX congratulates the CWU and its members on this landmark decision and hopes similar action will take place in other parts of the country.

  2. Hoo fucking Ray a group of workers find that they can stand against the might of the arch Capitalist Murdoch and his criminal empire! More of it, and why are not the TUC getting involved in denouncing the ‘old git’ rather than continuing to ponce about in suits, boots and ties in an attempt to ‘ape’ management?

  7. The S*n flyers may not be “post” within the meaning of the Postal Services Act so may not leave the workers open to criminal sanction – but I believe this is still a serious strategic mistake which hands Murdoch a stick to beat the Left with.
Even if the shrivelled homunculus doesn’t sue RM or the workers.

      • Rightly or wrongly I see this as the same principle as the Irish “gay cake” issue. Refusing to provide a public service on the basis of personal belief I find unacceptable. Should the police refuse to intervene when a known criminal is being attacked?
A nurse refuse to treat a S*n reading neighbour?
People are entitled to boycott the rag in their personal but not their professional lives.
        imho.

  9. Whatever one may think of the Sun, I don’t think it’s for the postman to decide which post he should carry and which he shouldn’t.

Would it be acceptable, for example, for the postman to refuse to deliver Virgin marketing material because he thought that they treated Mr Corbyn badly over “traingate”?
