As the SKWAWKBOX revealed on Monday evening, Len McCluskey made the landmark announcement at the JVL (Jewish Voice for Labour) launch event that Unite would formally affiliate to the new organisation for left-wing Jewish members of the Labour Party.
He was not the only union leader to do so. Aslef’s Tosh McDonald joined in at the end of the evening by announcing that he will also ask rail union ASLEF to affiliate to JVL.
These announcements take JVL – on its launch evening – from a fledgling organisation to one backed by two major unions, giving it a substantial stature from its outset.
