Exclusive: LOTO ‘delighted’ with new changes pushed through at Labour HQ

As the SKWAWKBOX revealed exclusively on Thursday, Jeremy Corbyn and his team are not looking to replace departing Labour election and campaigns head Patrick Heneghan with a left-winger – or with anyone.

Heneghan, a close ally of General Secretary Iain McNicol, was part of the Labour HQ team responsible for what many members consider a negative and defeatist official General Election campaign – in stark contrast to the energy and drive shown by Labour members and groups such as Momentum. He is said to have left ‘by mutual consent’.

But a very senior Labour source has told the SKWAWKBOX that Heneghan’s removal – for such it appears to be – was part of a package of changes successfully pushed through at Labour’s HQ referred to by many on the left as ‘Darkside’ rather than by its usual name, ‘Southside’.

The source told this blog:

Jeremy’s team is cock-a-hoop at the changes achieved at Southside. Patrick needed to go so they could set up a completely new structure and way of doing things, one that will take Labour back into the heart of communities.

We’ll now have community organisers across the country, who will integrate new members and rebuild respect in post-industrial communities where New Labour systematically abandoned and betrayed our class under Blair.

Now we can integrate media and integrate policy and control them properly. It’s been hard work but now we’re going to be campaigning the way we want!

Corbyn’s supporters among the membership – the vast majority – have been waiting eagerly for the party leader to stamp his authority on the party and force Labour’s right-dominated HQ into line. It appears that process has begun – with a hugely positive step that will support the continued growth of Labour as a movement in communites all around the UK.

  1. Now watch the Blairites jumping up and down, and all to no avail. They had their day.

  2. The writing is now on the wall for the incompetent and discredited General Secretary of the Labour Party, Iain McNicol.

Mr McNicol would be well advised to prepare his resignation speech for Conference.

He can either resign honourably or suffer the humiliation of being sacked.

    It’s your choice, Iain.

  3. COCKAHOOP, AT LONG LAST THE RIGHT, ARE CRUMBLING AT THE TOP!
THUS HAVING THAT EFFECT OF THOSE BELOW, MAYBE THINKING, OUR POSITION IS PRECARIOUS, FRAUGHT WITH DANGER, LET US MAKE A MOVE TO THE LEFT, OR LOOSE OUR WAY AND WIND UP OUT IN THE COLD, OR WORSE STILL, LOOSE OUR JOBS!
    THE LATTER, I PREFER!

  4. Labour needs to bring an end to this menace of McNicol’s behaviour as a corporate executive with control over the Region and annulling changes at CLP and branch level. Party Rule is subverted by his cronies putting democracy is at risk. If this is allowed to continue the party will experience long term damage and disillusionment by members.
